UPDATE PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE USING AUTO OR SPRINT ONLY as the roaming method in network settings. menu.settings.wireless and network.mobile networks
So...many of us posted some specific Pandora issues on the Evo in this thread.
What I am concentrating on is the issue that some of us are experiencing a problem with songs playing entirely prior to changing to the next song. Commonly we have referred to this as "skipping".
What I would like everyone to help with...answer the above accurately. Reserve thread space for more details.
For example...if you vote that your Pandora on your Evo is working well that is absolutely fantastic and I am happy for you. Vote and only post what HTC software and kernel you are on Please do not post "mine works" etc. If you are going to post give me those details.
--you can find these details at : menu.settings.about phone.software information
Please do not vote if you are not using the EVO. If you do have a different phone and are experiencing Pandora issues please pm me. I will do everything I can to help you but my goal is clean EVO only results here.
For those that are experiencing issues... give me more details
1. Current root status.
2. Radio PRI Software Kernel information, Everything is helpful here.
3. How you got where you are today with #2
THIS, #3 IS IMPORTANT
--OTA, or updating via ROM ect--
I have gone through a number of possibilities trying to fix this. Pandora has not always exhibited this issue on the EVO, and I can not pinpoint when the issue began exactly.
This will be a learning experience for me, and any others that want to be involved. I have no experience with these types of things but I know as a community that we can at least find a solution, if not also the cause.
Please remember, due to a flaw in the forum software you can not reach my profile by simply clicking on my name like most users. Click on my name within a post to get the drop down options and select "send pm"
and of course...
Thank you to all that make this forum what it is!

I use pandora on the 3g network. I have not used wifi or 4g yet but I can test that if you like. Also I use pandora in my car when driving so maybe the fact I am driving may make skipping worse?
Problem:
I have some skipping but nothing too bad. It may skip 1 to 2 times in an hour. In the middle of a song it will just stop. The screen will show it loading a new song and then the new song will play. Sometimes it will skip two to three times in a row or get a force close. Annoying but doesn't seem as bad as what some people experience.

By the way, I sdon't think you're crazy. It was just the closest choice to my situation.
Mine works 95% of the time perfectly. I get the occasional skip on wifi but not enough to complain about.
I'm rooted on Myn's RLS5. I am hardware 0004 and came with 3.30.653 software. I held off from the OTA and rooted straight into the latest from Fresh, then wiped and went to Myn about 3 weeks later. I have the latest radios.

i haven't bothered using pandora in a few weeks so i can't say how it acts with my current setup. but i do get the symptom where songs stop half way and then skip to a new song.
i can't give all my specs from when i was having this issue, but i can say that i made sure i always have the latest radio, pri and prl to go with new updates.
i know i had the issue really badly while on fresh 3.4 and evio2 1.6.2 both of these roms were built off of the 3.30 base. i've always used the stock kernel, or the one that came with the rom. for the evio i think it was htc #17
i flashed to evio1.7 based off of 3.70 but only had it for about a day. i did pull up pandora to test it and it did seem better. but this was a very short trial and really doesn't mean anything. i also think this had htc kernel #17
since then i have been flashing mikfroyo beta roms every couple of days and haven't really had time for pandora. i can try it out more next week and report back.

so i ran pandora non stop all day today while at work on 3g exclusively. my overall experience was the best its been in a while. but i did still get some skips.
i left my phone plugged in all day and played pandora on high quality. i set the screen to always on so i could try to see what was going on.
8:20 - 11:15am pandora played flawlessly. well from what i could tell it did, can't be there 100% of the time.
11:15 - 12:30 the skipping started. on most but not every song. so i started to watch the screen very closely. a text would come through and the play back would pause and pick the song back up like it should. i also noticed when it was playing back a song with no issues i wouldn't see 3g as active, well it does to load next song but not while just playing. so i noticed 3g is active when a skip occurs. so i start thinking about back ground data syncing. i did notice after one skip that i had some new mail, mail is set to check hourly. no emails came from 8:20-11:15. so i sent myself a test email and pandora did not skip. i turned off background data anyway and went to lunch, left my phone plugged in playing pandora.
12:30-4:30 i got a little busy but from what i noticed pandora skipped about once per hour. not too bad. but background data is now off. i did notice every time i would look at my phone with a skip there was an add there. no idea if its related.
but i do have adfree and just updated and applied it. i'm on my 5th song right now and no ad's yet or skips. i'll update the program again on monday morning and play pandora all day with adfree applied. you can get it here http://bigtincan.com/downloads/android.html root users only.
then i'll switch over to 4g and see how that goes.
i'm not sure with background data off if that it actually stops downloaded apps from syncing. so just saying i'm not sure if saying background data off is accurate.
edit: adfree only blocks the in song banner and not the in between songs ad's with audio. i still get the x to close the ad tho.
also i really feel this happens when data transmission stops or signal is lost. and when songs do the skips you see the loading window almost immediately, like if you hit skip.

See...this is lining up kinda sorta with my buffer idea. I am not sure how many noticed my post in the Pandora thread....if you let Pandora start a song and then immediately turn on airplane mode, the song will play through entirely prior to giving an error code. So one of my speculations is this...and appears to match up with my log from today...phone communicates with Pandora and grabs the music which is placed in a buffer.. the amount and location of buffer is currently unknown. It plays the music from that buffer not actually from the realtime stream. Somewhere in this process the 3g radio goes idle. Buffer runs out, 3g wakes but the few second process confuses Pandora server and it picks up a new song. Skips through a few due to confusion until buffer is full again...then repeats. From the duration standpoint this buffer may contain anywhere from 5 mins to 1 hours worth of music. In the event that other services are accessing 3g coincidentally....there is even greater confusion. Not helping matters is the proxy setting Sprint has on the phone. Though my tests on myns with the modified proxy settings made no difference in the skip issue...it still may ne a good idea to fix those at call Sprint and have them send the proxy update to your phone. For those diy out there the fix is in the other Pandora thread and the series xm thread. Those settings may be affecting a number of things and could quite possibly fix web related errors like stream quality page loads etc

Just for some more info as I have been keeping note of what is going on with my pandora. What I have noticed is I get a couple of different types of problems. The most obvious is a song stops, screen shows loading and a new song starts playing. Sometimes a song stops, pandora freezes and I get a force close. These are both common and seem to be what a lot of people get. Something new that I have noticed that has been happening is that a song will stop, pause for say 5 seconds, and instead of loading a new song will pick back up for 2 - 3 seconds and then stop, and play etc... It usually just ends in it going to a new song but I have never seen this before. It normally stops once and goes right to a song. This has been trying to pick the song back up. Not sure if that says anything or helps anything about the buffer but figured i'd throw it out there.
Mine has done that (record skip) and I gotta log of it today. Funny thing is we were near a sporting event ..3g speeds were awful. Neither our Eco or ATT aria could maintain an internet connection. I switched to 4g and connection was good..problem went away. I am hoping to look through the logs in a moment.

I'm not quite sure if it's a problem with Pandora or with signal. On my drive to work in the mornings (6:00am) it works perfectly fine for the short amount of time I'm in the car. If I have to make runs in the afternoon it seems to work okay then too.
At night though is when it really seems to bug out, force close, or randomly start skipping songs. It will give me an error code, which I can't remember, but will post once I see it again. Wi-Fi seems to be okay but I don't use it at home that often so it's hard to tell.
I'm also always running it on high quality. It didn't do this when I first got the phone (July '10) but ever since the first OTA update to 2.2 is when I first started noticing the problems.
unrooted Evo, all last OTA updates. kernel 2.6.32.17-gee557fd, software number 3.70.651.1, PRI 1.90_003.
I use Pandora almost exclusively on 3g, but can try on WiFi and 4g as well. It skips a lot, I estimate roughly every 4th/5th song on average, sometimes 2-3 songs in a row or within a very short time.
It also has this annoying thing where it stops playing when the screen is off. I turn the screen on, and it goes on playing after 5 seconds or so. Is that a feature or a bug? Whatever it is, how do I get it to keep playing, even if the screen goes dark? In Pandora settings, I have high audio quality and auto-lock on. I use Juice Defender +Ultimate Juice - that can be the reason for skips, maybe? And it might possibly help with continuing the music when the screen goes dark.
I'm sure this isn't all of the information you need, but ive only had the phone for a couple of days and I'm having the problem as well.

I have similar issues on slacker but less often. I just dont like the interface on slacker. Have any of you gone to the market and clicked on the email link on pandoras page. This would help greatly!
Big thanks to LaFlavor for suggesting to go further back in version. Feel free to try for yourself. So far I have only tried to manually force the app to skip and it doesn't skip..
I did find a link to all versions of Pandora and installed 1.2 which is the second android version. Typically on 1.4 and 1.5 I can actually force the skip. To occur simply by changing connection type mid son from 3g to wifi or with to 3g. Well now on version 1.2 when making the change there are a few record skips but then it picks back up and just keeps playing. This version 1.2 was the first version availible to the Ego from what I recall. Then froyo came out and everyone had issues...then pandora updated to 1.3 about the same time sprint had an update adding the codecs that were removed/replaced with froyo. I will also add that the quality is back to being awesome as well. I of course will run this for a while and see what happens
MODified
uninstall current pandora, then install this older version. Don't forget to turn off auto updates in the market

Reason: no links
Site policy does not allow linking to apk files for copyrighted material, whether for free or paid. Strictly speaking, it makes us party to copyright infringement.
Sux because you found a solution, but there it is.
1. Mr. Ed - can you find a way to get Pandora to host that via their support page? Or at least quote the specific google search you can use for that - without putting us on thin ice?
2. All others, please help your friendly neighborhood mods and note the links in the OP and in Mr. Ed's sig - we don't want to manage to two parallel threads, so keep this clean as per Mr. Ed's requested use.
Once I verify it is a bonified fix I will get with Pandora about hosting the file. Anyone wanting to find it can via.a diligent search on google. Look for version 1.2.1. I was under the impression we could link free apps...we kinda do that all the time lol.
I was under the impression we could link free apps...we kinda do that all the time lol.
We allow linking of apps as direct apk file downloads as follows:
that are open source, such as standard Android components (Gingerbread keyboard, for example)
to mirror the occasional development apk from a nice guy, usually at XDA, who comes out with a helper app and asks for people to mirror it for him
in our AF developer forum (yes, we have one too!) where people want to post alpha or beta apks for feedback
We allow links to apps as follows:
Market links
sites we know are trustworthy, such as AppBrain - there is a groundswell of new AppBrain-looking sites, but we've found some of them are really there to just deliver malware payloads to PCs, so when in doubt, we censor what we're unsure of or PM the user to replace with an AppBrain/equivalent link - this is for everyone's protection

If you think the software lawyers aren't starting to pay close attention to this issue -
We were the first and we are the largest - it's in our name: AndroidForums.com
Trust me - we expect to withstand scrutiny at any time
We may - or may not - have had more of these link slip through in the past, even though our policy has been this way, but no more:
This is not a new policy - I watched its enforcement here when I was a lurker
The enforcement is not new and it is NOT driven by fear of lawyers
It's the right way to behave, legally - and morally
We're the biggest - but we will always strive to be the best
If you're personally seeing more enforcement, it's a case of having more moderators and guides now to keep track of this - and more aware users reporting it to us
And - because every good policy should put the fear into people and if the lawyers didn't do that, here's another disincentive: at the end of last year, Chinese malware enthusiasts learned they could take paid games, wrap a Trojan in that will steal contacts and any personal data it can find, and give the home dev access to your phone to extract it - all by advertising free download of a for-pay apk file.
And if that didn't do it, there's this: the mod staff has been meeting on this on a regular basis and has decided to ask no more questions - people requesting apks get a warning, and people providing them get an automatic infraction.
A few of those and you can get banned.
I didn't give you an infraction because I know your background as above and beyond helpful around here, and because I considered your motive and the frustrations involved that you faced.
Most mods now would've whacked you for this one and removed the entire post.
If you see a buddy posting an apk download that's out of bounds, let him know to get it down before we find it, because we very rarely show mercy on copyright issues.
If it's an apk download from someone you don't know or trust, or you know to be evil - like an attempted freebie - hit the !Report button to the left of the post and let us know about it.
Please do your part to protect your buddies from the mods and to protect Android Forums from the lawyers.
This version really helps and has narrowed this down to two issues. Sprint has some major breaks in coverage here in Dallas. I had the rare chance to ride as passenger while testing tonight. This older version did lose the stream three times during 1.5 hours. Each time the phone dropped to 0 bars, bounced up to 3, then dropped to 0, then went full, then dropped to 4. This is a sprint coverage issue or even a defective phone issue for sure. In all of these instances this older version picked up a new song and stream and went forward with no issues. The newer version struggles, gathering partial stream then skipping 3 or 4 times. I am going to continue to log and get the logs to pandora and go from there. I suspect I will either have a pandora hosted apk...or a completely new version soon.

Not sure if you have seen this post on XDA Mr. Ed. I found it on another website and with this fix people were claiming that there sprint tv and what not was streaming better. Not sure if this can be applied to the pandora issue seeing as im not having the issue that you are.
Hope this helps and if not then we learned about something else that doesnt fix it.

I have solid 3G and 4G service here in Orange County. I drive alot for work and I experience this problem all the time. I may listen for an hour and get 1 skip. Then other times it will start skipping almost every song 1/2 way. Sometimes I get a Pandora error on the screen but music resumes. Its all very random and annoying. Sometimes actually exiting the app then relaunching it helps and other times it doesn't.
I've tried to see if its signal related but it seems to do it when I have full signal and only using 3G.
