Default Time Zone Issue?

How many of us on "Team Evo" are experiencing our time zone randomly switching to a different part of the world and changing our clock? The last firmware update back in December seemed to bork it for a fair number of us. I thought it was a fairly small number of Evo users that were effected, but after reading some other forums it's looking to me like there are more effected users that I thought.

So sound off. Vote in the poll and we'll all have a better idea of the percentage of users suffering with the dreaded "Time Zone of Doom" bug.

does this happen with rooted and non rooted folks?

does this happen to evos and other handsets form what you have seen or is it evo specific?

what does the phone do to let you know the time has changed? does it beep to let you know its in a different zone or do you just happen to look at your device and see ths time is changed?

have you personally contacted HTC (forget sprint) and issues a trouble ticket to get a dialog started? strength is in numbers and the more who complain to the SOURCE the more they _THE SOURCE_ can fix or get this on the books in a future update.

please dont take this as a rant. im just trying to get some dialog on what is actually happening and why?

Two more Evo owners (my friend being the other) with this issue. Mine is ok now (thanks, Mr Ed!); my friend still occasionally wakes up in Russia or Afghanistan (he's in Salt Lake City lol)

Nope, your suggestion did the trick. I passed it on to my friend but his still occasionally "gets lost"

You might want to collect more information about the kinds of phones this has been happening to, like marctronixx was saying. I've never had it happen before. My phone is rooted now, but I had Froyo for a while unrooted, and the timezone never changed on me. You also might want to find out if maybe this is happening to people only in certain timezones.

hardware version 0002, rooted back in june on android 2.1. currently running mikfroyo 4.4

i have never seen this happen to my phone. i do not use the htc clock/weather widget tho. i am a launcher pro user with beautiful widgets for weather, clock sometimes beautiful widget or other clock widgets.

my wife has just picked up an evo. all stock. hardware version 0004, battery door date was 12/20/10

hers lost the time zone within the first 2 days of using. i think it said berlin. i forget if the actual time was wrong or not and if the time in the notification matched or didn't match the widget. we refreshed the widget or rebooted her phone. not sure but it sync'd up and i don't think we have seen an issue since.

after receiving this phone we sync'd her contacts that the sprint store had stored on the phone's memory with her google account. did a factory reset and i think the time zone has been perfect since. probably not related but that's what we did on the second day of ownership.

Yes, mine started doing this within a week of the update. East Africa every time it switches (I'm on Pacific time). The longest I've gone without a switch has been one week (this last week). However it did it to me again this morning, and I only happened to catch it because I was looking at my calendar and saw an appointment I knew I had today that was switched to tomorrow.

I hope this gets corrected soon as the time function on the phone is critical to me.

this happens to my wife and me.

We're in San Antonio, TX and one of us (never both at the same time, yet) will randomly be given the wrong time/weather info. Stockholm County seems to be the random wrong location both our phones prefer, but it's not ALWAYS there.

No notification of a change, just seems to lose it's place in the world and updates to the new location.

I've fixed it by going into settings and disabling the "find location from network" feature, and then turning it back on.

Or, I'll just power down and power back up. Both actions fix it pretty reliably. It's more of an annoyance than a problem.

Oh, and any text message I get while the clock is wrong will show in the received texts list with the wrong time the clock was displaying when it was received. When the clock is fixed, the time displayed with the message is also "fixed".

Happening to me more frequently, twice this weekend. Not sure what's going on. Reboot fixes for a while.

I have a Desire, not an Evo, but it has been happening to me occasionally ever since Froyo. I'm in the UK but my phone occasionally thinks I'm in China, South Africa or USA.

Had an OTA update last night (2.14.207.3) and this morning I was in Long Beach, CA!

I live in the central time zone. My Evo is moving me to India several times a day. This affects texts, alarms, e-mails...pretty much everything. I turn off "Use wireless networks" in Location and "Automatic" in Date & Time. Then I turn them back on. Usually fixes the problem, but is tedious several times a day.

My phone displays 2 time zones under the settings (Central & GMT) when it is set to Automatic. This is creating an issue when adding items to my calendar. Some go in as Central some as GMT.
