Default Keyboard problems since update

I installed the latest system update and got the changes to the keyboard. I have noticed a few annoying things since and wanted to know if anyone had workarounds. I'm using the standard swype keyboard.

Since the release the ability to double click a word and change it is more difficult due to the new feature that allows copy and paste. This menu appears over the swype word choice.

Also, if I click on the symbol button to get to the numbers, etc. the keyboard screen does not change. In fact the keyboard doesn't really change at all anymore. It does not show the switch between upper and lower case and does not show the symbols screen. Luckily I'm only entering numbers and can see their locations but this would be especially problematic if I wanted to get to any of the symbols above the numbers.

Any information on what might be occurring would be very helpful.
