Default Evo 4g touchscreen is doing everything wrong

My phone recently hasn't been responding properly to my touch. Just unlocking my phone can be a chore. When I drag the bar down to open the phone it just gets stuck a bunch of times at the bottom. I constantly have to turn off the screen and try again and again to unlock it. Sometimes the screen won't do anything at all when i touch it like its frozen. FInally, when it unlocks i try to send messages or use apps and my screen will do weird shakes, lag, and freeze at times. I thought I just needed to recalibrate my screen or g-sensor but that didn't help much at all. When I'm typing my messages the keyboard has a mind of its own even though i calibrated it! It types all sorts of random things just by me hitting the backspace! As you can probably tell i'm really frustrated and would rly appreciate if someone can help me. My phone is basically unusable right now. Thanks for reading this.

How long have you had the phone? And do you know when this started? Was it after an app install? a reboot? a charge?
