Default Mail app won't let go of 200MB!

After using the default mail app for over a year to check a couple of email accounts, my EVO started complaining about a lack of space. I found that the mail app was hogging 200MB! In the process of trying to fix this I deleted all the mail, removed the mail accounts, disabled the mail app, and played with a variety of cache-and-memory cleaning apps. The 200MB is still somehow being taken up!

How can I free up all this memory? I cannot install anything more into this phone until I do!

Thanks,
Steve

Do you have any text messages that have not been deleted?

You could also try to uninstall any updates to apps, then redownload the apps with the current updates in them.

I assume not that all email apps are deleted from your phone based on what you said correct?

Hi Mike,
- I have a "few" text msgs on my phone - a couple hundred, tops.
- I will look at uninstalling updates to apps, but nothing shows as using a lot of space - only the mail app, which SHOULD show as using none!
- The "factory" mail app is the only one installed.

Android assistant reports:
RAM free: 98MB
ROM free: 15MB

Every app that could be moved to the SD card, has been moved.

Of course when I go to my Sprint store the only option they offer is to wipe the phone and start fresh. Ugh.

In your "manage applications", can you go to the email app and clear cache and clear data? Or have you done that already?

At "manage applications -> all", I selected "Mail" and re-enabled it. Right now the "Clear data", "Move to SD card", and "Clear cache" buttons are all grayed out. I do not have any mail accounts set up on it currently; maybe that's why? BUT Mail is at the top of the sort with 201MB.

"Data" lists 201MB, "Cache" lists 0.00B, "Application" lists 0.00B

FWIW it's mail verion 2.00.000.356670.651

Is is still syncing? Go to menu/settings/accounts & sync.
Is your email account still there and syncing?
Maybe click on the account and then remove it.
