Will SWYPE work on the EVO? I was wondering if anyone already has it on your EVO and if so can you share your experience with it.
Yes Swype works perfectly on Evo right now. Though you'll have to hunt down the APK since this board prohibits people from sharing that info.. it's not that hard tho
no it doesnt have swype standard. you have to get he apk for the incredible. it works decent in veritcal mode, not so well in horizontal mode cause of how big the phone is. also you lose your mic button/function. its only on the htc/android keyboard
1. It is officially on the market
2. a major factor that I have noticed with both Swype and SlideIT It's the emory usage. Swype 9.19 MB and SlideIT only 1.85 MB
3. SlideIT has shortcuts, you type afk and it types “away from keyboard”
4. SlideIT has Graffiti
About a month ago I sent an email to Swype asking about their Adroid beta program. (which is currently closed) I told them it would be approx a month before I got my Android phone. Below is the reply I rec'd....
Dirk,
Thanks for writing in, and sorry it’s taken us so long to get back to you. All I can say for the moment is that we’re planning to open up enrollment in the beta very soon. If your Android device is a month away, then you should be fine – make sure you’re registered, and watch your inbox for an email with download instructions.
Best,

I'm totally putting Swype on my Evo as soon as I get it It looks so cool
Yes, it's the first thing I hope to put on my EVO. (When I get one) Hopefully they'll be re-releasing the Adroid beta version again soon. In the mean time, go here:
Click on "mySwype" and check out some of the Tutorials on how to Swype capitals, puntuation, apostrophys, add words to the dictionary, etc.
I went into a Verizon store about a month ago to change my plan, and while waiting to be called, I played with Swype on their Omnia 2 display phone. I was blown away. I was hoping they wouldn't call me.
So now I'm; "Patiently/Impatiently waiting for my HTC EVO 4G phone to be released.

I think it was just a beta. Now it's closed. You can register on their website and get notified when the beta reopens.
I'm am not sure though. Don't take my word for it.

Worked like a charm for me. I have the Swype app backed up now on my phone just in case that gets pulled though. I can re-host in the event it goes down.

This worked great and I'm Swyping away. I think I love my phone even more now if that's possible. I have small hands and always have trouble texting with the EVO. That's a thing of the past now!
I got Swype after I tried SlideIt, Ultra Keyboard, and Shapewriter. I can't stand it when the keyboard is poorly done graphically. I thought that they all lookes like crap compared to Swype.
Also as far as landscape mode goes, you really don't do landscape mode and swype at the same time, as it is awkward. Landscape is usually just for regular typing on the keyboard.
swipe also now has the mic biult in, and even comes with different swipe trace colors
i'm using the red version now. works great.
I'm in the Swype beta, but my version doesn't seem to have these options. Am I looking in the wrong place to enable the mic button or different colored trace, or are you using a different version that isn't part of the beta?
I have to say that I love Swype, but here is the problem. I load a version onto my phone, it works great for awhile, and then it expires and is useless... and then you have to go find the latest version to install so it will work again. I got so sick of it that I have stopped using Swype. If I could find a version that I could put on that would never expire.... that would be great, but to my knowledge, no such thing exists.
On a side note: I think that the company that makes Swype is not very smart at all. They need to make it available on the market, they would make a ton of money.... but no....

Can't you please say which so I won't have to test?
Swype?
Etc?
seriously? I am dealing with a tragedy right now and may be a little short but c'mon....you are going to find more in the market that have it than don't. it is pretty much a standard feature of the keyboards.
go to market...look up keyboard...look at the details for any that strike your fancy. they tell you if they have the mic or not. i use the droidx keyboard over at xda ...it has it. as for the others...i don't use them. I have found the droid x keyboard to work perfectly for my needs
jason18...your font size is brutal....it's like you are yelling and screamin blue at everyone....just saying it's been mentioned elsewhere that swype may be under contract with samsung/verizon/ or someone...and that once that agreement of exclusiveness is expired we may see the app on the market. I have no way of verifying this but have seen it in other industries. also...those with beta, I read today there is a new beta. has anyone received it?

Swype 2.6b doesn't have a Mic. There is an older version that is modded with a Mic. Anyone has seen the new one with a Mic?
