Default USB Tethering - Error Code 67

Had my EVO for a little over 3 hours and still getting Error Code 67 "Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect"

I obviously expected some delay given today's launch but assumed about an hour at most....unless I've done somethign 'stoopid'.

Any ideas or shoudl I just sit back and enjoy everything else for at least a few more hours....?

Isn't it because they disabled tethering? I know its different than the mobile hotspot but maybe?

Mine gives me the same error. So I used PDAnet and it worked fine.

If you're tethering in windows you have to install HTC Sync first. I get the same error in Linux, but I don't have access to a Windows computer until I get home to try it on that.

It should be on the support site, the user manual has been available since yesterday. HTC Sync should be on the SD card that came in your phone.

The installation file is actually on the phone....so you drag it over to your PC, (by connecting EVO to PC as external hard drive....see pgae 70 of usert guide) and then install it.

The executable to install it comes on the memory card that came with the phone.

I fixed this on my phone pretty quickly by going to Settings > System Updates > Update Profile and downloading updated network settings. Try that.

Trying that, but it's been on the Device Configuration thing for about 5 minutes now. Should it take that long?

Yeah that screwed me all up. Can't connect to anything now. Rebooting to see if it helps.

It took a minute or two for me, it depends on how responsive your local cell network is I reckon. If it's real painful, powercycle and try again. But I only had to get it to update once, then I immediately had data access. If it doesn't work at all, try a PRL update first.

Sprint fixed it for you??

When I asked them about USB wired tethering, they told me it was unavailable and they we could only Wifi tether for $30/month.

Wow, confusing.

I'm getting the same thing, not that I know what I am doing...

If I pick tethering it drops my 3G connection until I unplug the USB cable

I just got off the phone with HTC and they told me I have to buy the tethering plan from Sprint.....

If anyone got the tethering to work please make it clear to us just what you did step by step

Thanks will be given.

Sprint had a provisioning problem earlier today and profile updates were erroring out with 1012. If you get that, wait and try later. I had the same problem - was talking to a Sprint tech when he got a bunch of emails about the problem.

I noticed the problem when I was trying to update the data profile of an old phone, so the problem was system-wide, not just EVO. Phone functions worked fine, just not all data.

I did get the update to complete on both phones (an EVO and a old one), so give it some time and try again.

Haven't tried PDANET yet, but no reason it shouldn't work.

I tried PDAnet like an hour ago and it worked perfectly. Not as slick as the supposed built in HTC tethering would be as you have to install an app on you computer and you have to enable USB debug mode but all in all it was extremely painless.

I can confirm that USB tethering *DOES WORK* on a launch day device.

I picked my phone up this morning and am tethered to it as I type this. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on the tethered laptop. Ubuntu detected the phone as "usb0" and just worked.

I had previously gotten the same error you all are reporting. Unfortunately I'm not sure what I did to fix it. I encountered the Active Sync reboot loop problem and did a hard reset on the phone, deleted everything on the device, and reformatted the Micro SDHC card from withing the EVO environment. After performing those steps to recover from the Active Sync issue, I noticed that I was no longer getting the Error 67 message.

Good luck!

Well, I just got off the phone with CS at Sprint and they insist EMPHATICALLY that using your phone tethered to one device via USB is not allowed unless you are on the hotspot plan. He also says that anyone who is capable of doing it will soon lose the ability to, as the provisioning system is messed up and that's what is allowing people access. I have no idea what to believe. Are we allowed to tether via USB as part of the $10 fee or is it just a screw up by Sprint which will soon be taken care of?

This is total BS. I'm getting the 67 error also. I don't get why they block this. There are a bunch of ways to tether without paying Sprint. By decision to root or not depends on if I can get free tether another way. I know PDANET has a free version, but their FAQ says the free version has limitations on secure sites (ones that require username/password), so its not really going to work for me. There is no way I'm pay $30+$10(premium data) to tether when I was doing the same thing on my Pre for free. If I cant figure something out by this weekend, then its rooting time.

That's another thing they kept insisting, that every one that was able to use usb tether must be using 4G cause it's free until July. And, again, anyone else who can usb tether using 3G will soon not be able to.

On another note, I downloaded pdanet to find that I can't use it to tether to Linux via bluetooth. Setting up the bluetooth connection I'm not given the option to use it for internet connection sharing AND the EVO won't connect. I could do that with my ******* iPhone...either I'm missing something or I really got screwed thinking that I would be able to tether with this thing.

looks like they blocked it. i wonder if that is what the first update today was? maybe that is why some can and some can't.

easytether, same as pdanet but it's $10

I didn't do the OTA update. From reading other forums its starting to look like 3G USB tendering without the $30 addon is a no-go.

This is crap..... even the user guide states you can do it. Must be some mistake here.....

If not I don't really mind using PDAnet, EasyTether, etc...but really feel let down as I hat this on the phone I 'upgraded' this morning for the EVO.

Arggghhhhhh

I was tethered over 3G. I am not in a 4G service area. I should add that I did *NOT* install the OTA update today.

Bugger - I swapped ESN's on my Palm Pre to my Google IO earlier tonight, and now I'm seeing this issue. Went through the steps outlined above. And I'm going to leave on a trip in 7 hours! Time to grab & toss on a PDANet Win Install as a backup.

Here are the exact steps I used:
*Plug EVO to computer via USB
*Select Disk Mode on Evo
*Install HTC Sync through MicroSD (accessible through My ComputeR)
*Change Disk Mode --> Internet Sharing Mode
*Wait for about a minute or two while it attaches (Might see something like HTC xyz Device Recognized in your system tray)
*Voila! I'm posting by USB tethering right now. Suppppper fast.

3G only; I DID install the update.

So don't be fooled by Sprint...it does work! As for troubleshooting, it might just be easier to uninstall HTC Sync and start over
I did the same thing but with win 7 premium.I'll try reinstalling sync tomorrow and see if that helps.

I followed these directions posted earlier and am now tethered from my Evo to my computer using the HTC sync option with 4G--no need for PDAnet. Just did a test and got 5.66 mbps down and 0.8 mbps up from 4G in Nashville...this phone rocks!!!

By the way, my Wifi is off on the phone and the computer is only using the USB from my phone to get internet.

Hmm, how odd. I guess 4G wired tethering works while 3G doesn't?

It's possible. Unfortunately 4G in Nashville is very patchy since I think it went live this past week. I live where there's 4G but who knows if there's any at Starbucks down the street. That is where I'd do most of my tethering! I'd assume that using 3G SHOULDN'T change anything though...who knows, maybe they'll kick me off eventually anyway.

Hm, Sprint isn't even showing 4G in Nashville but it's definitely here! I think they're testing it out before final roll-out.

I think there are still bugs with the provisioning system.
Earlier today, for about 2 hours after I bought and activated my phone, I was getting hit with zero 3g service and 1012 provisioning errors. HOWEVER, at this time, i was still getting full voice service AND 4g service. Just lack of 3g. The problem eventually got fixed after extensive retries of user profile provision updates but I think this is what the usb tethering is running into.
So, I hypothesize that 3g data provisioning is a bit glitchy right now.
