Happy How to use WiMAX LED on HTC EVO for SMS/MMS notifications!

Check it out!

How to use WiMAX LED on HTC EVO for SMS/MMS notifications

"Since the notification LED on the left side of the HTC EVO 4G's earpiece isn't customizable, you can't tell if a flashing green light means a missed call, SMS/MMS, email, alarm, reminder, or voicemail without turning on the phone and looking at the screen.
Wouldn't visual notifications be more useful if the WiMAX LED on the right side of the earpiece displayed some of them too? Then you could get a better idea of what was going on more quickly and decide whether it was worth stopping whatever you were doing to deal with it. Text messages, for example, are almost always important, so why not assign SMS/MMS notifications to the WiMAX LED?

Here's how you do it:
  1. 1. Download bludragon742's WiMAX Notifier. The latest version (10.09.06), released earlier this week, doesn't require root and can be used for SMS/MMS (stock messaging app, Handcent, and Chomp have been tested). Later versions will support missed calls, Gmail, and voicemail. Install it on your EVO and launch it to adjust the settings.
  2. 2. Choose your desired LED color and blinking rate from the list: green slow, green glow, green & red alternate, orange glow, red solid, green solid, orange solid. Press Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Display -> Notification flash.
  3. 3. Uncheck the SMS/MMS option so that the standard notification LED does not blink when a message is received.
Now whenever you get a new SMS or MMS, the WiMAX LED will let you know about it. And when the notification LED goes off at other times, you'll know it's not because of a text message"

It is a shame you have to register to get to it.... For whatever reason, it just won't let me register over there.

Sweet, thanks. I tried to several times and it keeps failing the image verification. I have never had one fail me before, it is all quite odd. Thanks for the hookup.

Even though this had been discussed before, I wasn't aware that it was made available for non-rooted phones! Thanks for posting!

Already downloaded onto my phone and test worked fine. Just need a new text to come in to verify that it works like I want it to.

I uninstalled the program. Its a great idea and app but it slowed my phone down. It was very noticeable, when I uninstalled, my phone ran a lot quicker.

Mine crashes, but I think it's because of Juice Defender. Nontheless, it's a cool app, but I just uninstalled, since I don't really need it.

If you downloaded the APK while browsing on your phone, it should be in the download folder on your SD card.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't even know there was a right side LED. Is it supposed to turn on when we're WiMax connected?

*EDIT*
i had previously mentioned an issue with the weather updates failing, but as mkampy points out below, this was an HTC weather update problem and has NOTHING to do with wimax notifier.

im fully functional again...and so is my phone

again, im not blaming either of the apps i installed, but it didnt happen to be prior to doing the wimax notifier thing. could be a fluke.

even a factory reset didnt help me out. any ideas?

for now ill just use beautiful widgets to get my weather.
This was an issue with HTC's weather provider

you're right kampy...i heard only a little while ago that there was indeed an issue with HTC weather.

Thanks for the tip! Installed it on both my phone and also my wife's. I'm in the healthcare field so sometimes I can't unlock my phone to check every notification but I'll take the time if I can distinguish if it's a text message since those are usually more important like someone already mentioned

hey guys...

there is a new player... the original dev.. he abandoned the app.

Noxious Ninga has taken up the fight.... he seams to know what he is doing.. re-recreated the app.. reverse engineered the original.

xda-developers - View Single Post - [App Project][Update 09/06/10] WiMAX Message Notifier

You will need to remove the old version .. before you load the new.

hope he can make it.. enable all 3 colors for more features.

I tried to installed both versions of this wimax notifier on my rooted HTC Evo. When I opened up Astro file manager it has no option to install. I tried another file explorer- same thing.

I find the Wimax app that i downloaded using Astro file, tab on it (wimax app), the Application File dialogue box pops up, tab on Open App Manager, and under Summary- where the information suppose to display along with Install feature is not there. Under Detail it reads- Could not open....as APK file.

I tried numerous times. No success.

Thanks for asking.

Update: uploaded pics... I didn't realized I dimmed my screen with the filter app on...so pics are dimmed.

I can;t seem to figure out how to select what sorts of notifications I want to set to the wimax notifier. I got the app installed.

EDIT: I see... so you can't select what you want it for. That's a bummer. Wanted it for texts and google talk :/

If it has not already been mentioned, you MUST delete the old version before installing the new version...

I tried this for several days, but gave up on it. I think it was crashing, or something was not quite right about it. Has it been improved on since October 2010?
