Default [ROM] Official Evervolv | 3.2.0a1 [AOSP 4.2.1]

Evervolv is an AOSP (Android Open Source Project) ROM. We're fully open sourced and encourage it with no restrictions. The work put into this ROM is community driven and and Evervolv Project is made up of numerous members and contributors.

Current Version: 3.2.0a1
Android Version: Jellybean (4.2.1)

Installation:

1. Format Data/Cache (Important!)
2. Format System
3. Flash ROM
4. Flash Gapps
5. Reboot

Download:
Release | Nightly (Not Available) | Gapps

Known Issues:

(Note: All of these can be fixed in time and represent the current state of the nightly builds.)

Camera (Buggy)
Front-Facing Camera
Camcorder
Wi-Fi Tethering
Wimax
Rare SystemUI Crash

The Evervolv team: For creating and maintaining this excellent ROM.
Preludedrew: I really couldn't have done it without him.

Notice:
This ROM was built for the Sprint version of the EVO Design 4G. It will run on other carriers, but you might need to modify the build.prop for certain features. Flashable .zips for Boost Mobile and US Cellular will come soon.

The current release is in alpha state, which means almost all of the hardware works, but there are a few noticeable quirks. Flash at your own risk. While it isn't likely, the Evervolv team (including me) is not responsible for damage done to your device while using this software. However, as long as they aren't already listed in this post, we ask that you tell us about any issues you have with the ROM. I will do my best to help potentially fix said issues.

When it comes to the nightlies, look for the latest one labeled "Scio" and "kingdom". The nightly 2013.02.06 is identical to the release version 3.2.0a1. They are built every day around 4 AM EST and contain the absolute latest changes from the Evervolv git repos. Like AOSP and CyanogenMod, we have a peer review system called Gerrit that helps ensure that proposed changes get reviewed by other maintainers. This means that our nightly builds are typically very stable, but obviously I can't make any guarantees. I recommend at least trying them out if you want the latest fixes, the worst case scenario being that you have to flash a different version.

I appreciate your willingness to help, but it's not a problem. The first nightly was just built and it's available to download now. I recommend you keep trying, though. Learning to build Android from source is a valuable thing. Fattire asked that users of the Nook Color build CM9 from source and not post any zips when he was developing it. That's how I learned, and look what it's lead to

This is awesome news glad to see this phone getting some love, and feeding my addiction to flashing. I had used evervolv roms on the cdma Hero and they always ran smooth.

Strange. Which recovery did you use? Which carrier are you on? What happens when it tries to boot?

Daamn, same for me. Just stays at the HTC logo. So weird. I'm using Team Osiris' cwm. Could that be why?

Have you tried flashing again? It sounds like the boot image didn't get flashed.

Hmm, this might be a bug in their recovery. I know this phone has had issues flashing the boot partition before. You guys can try extracting the boot.img from the ROM .zip and flashing it with fastboot.

If you still have the files from when you unlocked the bootloader, just stick the boot.img in that folder and run
[HIGH]fastboot flash boot boot.img[/HIGH]
from within. Of course, you need to be in fastboot mode on the phone, which can be accessed via the bootloader.

To be completely honest with you, I don't really know. That isn't necessarily my area. Try searching around a bit and see if you can't find a tutorial. Let me know if you get it working. In the meantime, I'll talk to Drew about it.

Using this with tablet ui pretty awesome, but no recent apps, as far as i can tell. Switching back to normal size in a few minutes.

Edit: in phone ui, the recent apps works fine. But tablet ui is much sexier...

What exactly is wrong with this ROM? I haven't found any issues at all yet

Anyone suggest a good kernel for this ROM? Right now I'm using the kingdom fastkernel V5 from 2fast. Thanks again!

Right now, the only kernel that works with 4.2 is the one included with this ROM. Perhaps down the road, other developers can modify it to have special features like FastKernel. I've linked its source code in the OP

when it comes to those of you having issues getting it to boot, try redownloading it, it could have been an issue with the file becoming corrupt. I would suggest using an MD5 checker to validate whether or not the file is good (if it is good the MD5 will be 38a71dce6358780783b5ac136fc29b86 ,as posted on evervolv.com) if you are unsure on how to do this here is a link to a tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135620 it is very easy to use, on your computer you can check it using the program shown in that link, or to simply use your phone, install this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fab.md5&feature=nav_result#?t=W251b GwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5mYWIubWQ1Il0. and use that. If the MD5 matches, then it will in fact be an issue with your CWM 6 and i would suggest reinstalling cwm 5 until Dm47021 can address the issue. If the MD5 does NOT match, you need to redownload the file until it does match (Which if your downloading from your phone, stay in one place so your phone has a constant steady signal. though i would suggest downloading over wifi with a strong connection). If you still need help feel free to PM me. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to troubleshooting

This was posted in the CWM 5 thread. Rename it to PH44IMG.zip and put it on your SD, then run the bootloader. It will walk you through flashing a new recovery. This recovery should work because it's what I used to flash the ROM currently running on my phone.

I've discovered why apns-conf.xml was missing from the ROM and I'm going to fix that for the next nightly. Thanks for the help.

no problem, i saw it was gone so thought i'd give it to people along with a modified build.prop for boost users

Looks like an apns-conf.xml alone isn't enough to fix MMS. I can't send any despite conditions looking fine.

It could be something within the MMS.apk itself.

I think legman is right cause go SMS MMS works but not the MMS.apk so it can be something with the app its self

I've figured out the problem. Android only reads from apns-conf.xml on first bootup. MMS should work with fresh installs of the next nightly under any carrier. For the rest of you, you need to flash Travisholt's zip above and reset APNs to default:

1. Open Voice Dialer
2. Say "Open APNs"
3. Tap "Open APNs"
4. Press the Menu button
5. Tap "Reset to default"

If this still does not work, you'll have to enter the settings manually.

1. Follow steps 1-4 above
5. Tap "New APN"
6. Enter APN Settings (Found Below)
7. Press Menu
8. Tap "Save"
9. Press the radio (circular) button next to your APN

Any setting not listed should be left at the default value.

For those of you who are curious, this is the change that fixed MMS. Simple, eh?

Just got done installing and it's really slick. UI is smooth and responsive and my once painfully slow Design now moves again.

Thanks for all the hard work devs.

but for the release is it the same as the nightly you have posted?
also the link for the release is unavailable as u stated but is this the rom uploaded here Index of /static/r by chance? if you look in that directory there is the kingdom rom it seems

The first nightly (Dated February 5, 2013) was identical to the alpha release ROM, 3.2.0a1. As of the day after, the nightlies have become different, starting with a fix for MMS in the February 6 build.

As for the ROM in static/r/, that is indeed the ROM that was supposed to be released. Looks like it didn't get uploaded to the proper folder (Scio.) I'll link to that for now in the OP and tell Drew about it. Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't noticed

The idea is that it's very close to barebones AOSP. Most of the modifications are on the backend. The features it does has over AOSP include a few Statusbar/UI tweaks, a theme chooser, and a Performance settings menu similar to that of CyanogenMod. Keep in mind, though, that I'm new to Evervolv myself and those are just off the top of my head. There could be more that I'm not remembering.

Other AOSP ROMs like CM are coming and they should be much easier to develop with a stable and open device configuration like the one I developed for this ROM. Anyone is free to fork and modify it as they want.

I know when I was using evervolv on the HeroC as a daily it was one of the smoothest and lightest and the evervolv team was on top of all the known issues really quickly due to only having roms for a few phones...

I am currently only using phone on wifi but this rom is definitely smooth

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Man I love this Rom!

Random question (This may be my carrier or the nature of the Rom). The drop down menu has been showing 24/7 that I have 3 voicemail waiting to be listened to. I checked and my inbox is empty. Anyone have an idea or theory on this? Not a big deal as the voicemail is working period, but just wondering. Thanks again for all the work!

Thank you for your work! It's amazing rom - so smooth and fast! But as far, as I see, there is no GSM support in it? I tried to turn it on with *#*#4636#*#* service code. This code helped me once with 2fast's CM10, but not with Evervolv.

Should we expect it in future nightlies or release?

P.S. Sorry for my English

You can expect GSM to be added in the future, yes.

I installed with Evervolv-Scio-3.2.0-Nightly-2013.02.05-kingdom.zip and I'd say had frequent system UI crashes rather than "rare" as above. I'm on HBOOT-1.30.0000 & 2FS's CWM 5.0.2.8. MD5's check out OK on my sdcard. Sprint. Wiped and installed twice, with same behavior: frequent lock-up, system UI crash, or reboots.

Can you give a logcat of what happens around the time of the SystemUI crashes?

I downloaded the kernel from the source in ZIP but I get an installation aborted. I used CWM 5 (the one from 2Fast's site) to do so (after wiping Devlik, cache and data).

Anything I could be doing wrong?
