Default Max SD card size

What's the maximum capacity SD card the EVO Shift 4G can use? And would different size/types of micro SD cards affect battery life?

I want to get that 32gig SD card, but I am finding that most of the apps I have downloaded don't give me the option to move them to SD card! Is there another way to direct apps to the SD card?
