Default HTC Evo Shift Texting Issue

Hello everyone,

I have been having a text message issue with my Evo Shift. I have noticed while in the messaging screen typing away, that sometimes if I go past 160 characters and onto "page 2", the screen shifts (no pun intended) all the way up to the top of the conversation I am having. I then have to either hit back and re-enter into the conversation, or scroll back down to the bottom. Is anyone else having this issue?

For me it does it at any number of key strokes and it only does it when i use the slide out keyboard. So i mostly use swype now and it doesn't do it at all. I know for all of us who got the shift the whole point was having the slide out keyboard. But i think there is some type of software problem......

I reported this issue to HTC when I first got my phone. After trading a ton of messages and trading in my phone once (under warranty), they determined that it is an Android bug, not an HTC bug, and that they would report it. It seems to be worse with Gingerbread. I have heard that using another messaging app (e.g. Handcent) fixes the problem, so I will probably give that a shot in the near future.

The issue where if you wake the phone by opening the slider, and you are not prompted to enter a passcode (assuming you have your phone passcode protected) was reported as well. HTC agreed it was a bug and they would fix it ... that was 6 months ago. Unless you have your phone on "timeout immediately"), if you open via the slider, it is wide open. Serious security bug, and annoying as hell to have to enter your code nearly every time you wake up your phone.

I figured it was something to do with Android because I was reading post elsewhere with the same issue. That is definitely a security threat issue that HTC should fix immediately. I personally don't use the pass code even though I will once I am back down at school in a few weeks, but I'll mess around with it and see if that happens still.

I am on my 2nd phone now because the first one was having call quality issues, and just my luck, this second one seems faulty too. All the soft keys on the phone seem to have a yellow glow rather than an led tone to them. It's not obvious when it's light out, but in a dimly lit room it's quite noticeable.

I am going to a different store this time because the sales rep I talked with didn't see what was I was showing them so they wouldn't let me replace it (I am still under the 30 day warranty). I ended up calling sprint customer service and said I was frustrated with it and the supervisor said I can switch it out no problem (You are allowed 3 switches in the 30 trial) so that got my hopes up again. I love the phone but I have had so many issues already, I am second guessing on switching over to Sprint and getting this phone.

Me too. It's extremely annoying and seems to happen without any rhyme or reason.

I'm having the same problem with text messages when I use the slide out. Usually before I finish the first sentence the screen flys to the top and causes all kinds of aggravation. Any news or updates on how to keep this from happening...besides completely neglecting the slide out keyboard feature?

GO SMS Pro is great. It is free in the Google Market; merely type "GO SMS Pro"
