You should start off on the main page of the forum: http://androidforums.com/, which contains links to all of the different areas of the forum.
You should be able to see individual sections such as 'The Lounge' and 'Introductions'. Notice how the sections are grouped together in collections such as 'Android Community' and 'Android Phones'.
When you click on a section's name, you are taken to the list of threads within. A thread is a conversation between members or guests. Each thread starts out as a single post and grows as more people add posts. Threads can be ordered within sections in many different ways. The default is to have the thread with most recent activity at the top.
It is possible for a section to have sub-sections, which will be listed above the list of threads in that section.
2. How do I read / post in a thread?
Once you're in a specific section, click on the title of a thread to read it.
To post a reply to an existing thread, click this button:
3. How do I start my own thread?
First, you need to pick which section you want to post in, and navigate to it as explained above. Your new thread will be created in the section you're currently viewing, so make sure you're looking at the right place before posting. If you end up creating it in the wrong place, don't worry, a moderator or a guide will move it for you.
Once you've found the section you want to post in, you need to push this button found above and below the list of threads in that section:
When you hit that, you'll be taken to a form to fill out to create your thread.
4. What are sticky threads?
'Sticky' threads are created by moderators or admins and remain 'stuck' at the top (even if there was no posts recently). Their purpose is to keep important info visible and accessible at all times.
Most phone/tablet sections now contain a guide sticky, which contain dozens of useful threads related to that section all in one place.
5. How do I keep track of all of my posts and settings?
The User Control Panel (also known as User CP) is a great tool for keeping track of threads you are involved in. It is also where you control your personal settings, options and preferences. To visit User CP, you must be registered at the forum first. Once logged in, click 'User CP' in the header bar near the top of the page.
The first thing you'll notice is a list of threads here too. These are threads that you have posted in/created/subscribed to that have new replies. Very handy
The User CP will also list any new notifications, including new private messages and pending friend requests. Additional pages and forms allow you to control:
- your email address and password
- custom public profile settings
- private messages
- subscribed forums
- contacts and friends
- social groups
6. How do I search for something?
To quickly find a thread or a post of interest on the forum, type in the keyword or phrase you wish to search for in the field in the navigation bar ('Enter Search Keywords..' field) and select 'GO'.
7. How do I search a specific forum or a thread?
If you are browsing a forum, you can quickly search for a thread or post within by clicking 'Search this forum' link near the top of the page (just above the list of threads). You can also search for individual posts within a thread by clicking on the 'Search this thread' link at the top of any thread view page.
8. What are thread tools?
At the top of each thread, there is 'Thread Tools' link. Click it and this is the menu you will see:
- Show Printable version - shows you a page in a reduced graphics format that is more 'printer friendly'.
- Email this Page - you think someone would be interested in the content? Clicking this option will forward a link to their email address.
- Subscribe (or Unsubscribe) from this Thread - by subscribing to a thread, you will receive periodic email updates on recent activity within it.
9. How can I change my user details?
You can change your account info using User CP. Clicking option 'Edit' for any info set will allow you set and / or change whatever is within

I started a thread that has really taken off but I would like to clean it up a bit and remove a few redundant comments. I know other OPs have done it but I can't seem to find the option. Is it because I am still a junior member and don't have that feature or am I just overlooking it? Also, how/when to you advance to member/senior member?

I'm getting e mails every time someone posts something new in threads I've posted in. Went to my control panel and unsubscribed to all threads, set my default to not subscribe to threads I've posted in but I still get them. Am I missing something?

I have the same question. What is the criteria for being a "New Member", a "Junior Member", a "Member", a "Senior Member", and any other classifications that I have missed?
Not sure if this is the right spot, but I can't find a suitable spot for my question nor have I found it answered anywhere.
I do NOT get email notification of my subscribed threads, I have triple checked my email address, and that I have it set for notification, also checked my spam folder at AT&T's webmail and nothing.
I've had my Aria for two days (with the original battery) and have had to charge it at least 3 times. It doesn't seem to last more than 6 hours. Is this usual for this phone? I was on it alot the first day, but not so much since then. This is totally impractical. I need something that lasts. HELP

Hello Im a newbie here and i have a question. Im trying to install a program to my Sprint HTC EVO. I get the error message that the file is not compatible. It is a .jar file how do i get it loaded and unzipped on my phone. Is there and APP for that?
Seems like it should be a faq - I can't find an answer - What's the difference between "Tip This" and reporting a post? Thanks.
If you click "tip this" this comes up:
Is this post newsworthy? Sending this tip will notify the editors of Phandroid.com that this post is worthy of an article on the main news section on Phandroid. THIS IS NOT FOR SPAM OR REPORTED POSTS.
and I think everyone knows what happens if you click the report button.

Thanks. I thought it may have referenced a way to advise the mods of something such as a misplaced post or potential concern not serious enough to be reported but simply to bring it to their attention.
I wouldn't have discovered it on my own - I'm one of those people who doesn't click something unless I know what I'm clicking! The mouse-over simply says it is to tip the post to staff, no particular reason why you tip it.
Hey guys,
I am looking for some good third party api that could help me in generating attractive Bar charts,Pie charts , line charts etc on my android device.
Currently i am using achartengine Api but the charts doesn't seems too good when data becomes too large.
Listen, I don't mean to be a jerk, but I've spent the last 15 minutes trying to find an answer to a video playing problem in the forums and another 20 minutes trying to figure out how to post a new question in this forum. I can't find an answer to my problem anywhere in the forum. That's made me very angry and frustrated so why is this forum interface so idiotic that you can't post a simple question???? I understand that posting a new thread can't be too obvious or else you'll get stupid questions every minute, but for cryin' out loud!!!!
I CAN'T GET A NORMAL VIDEO TO PLAY ON MY DROID INCREDIBLE AND I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO ASK WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look, I know that whoever's reading this, it's not your fault, and I don't mean to be rude, but I'm just so damn frustrated. All I wanted to do was ask a simple question that I couldn't find the answer for in the forums
M.Delaney & Rusty49, you can do this by clicking User CP at the top left of the forum and picking 'Edit Signature'. Bear in mind that you need a certain number of posts (25 or 50, I'm not sure) before it will start to appear when you post.
Hit that and fill out the form and you'll have made a new thread in the section you were viewing.
------------------------
GE5990877, I don't believe it does. Phones don't use hard drives like PCs do, and so I don't believe they require, or see much benefit from, defragmentation. Although it's recommended to clear out all of your old files every now and then if you aren't using them
------------------------
blisteringlogic, I have coppied your post to it's own thread here for you. Feel free to hit the edit button on that post if you want to change anything in that copy.
If any of you need any more help, send me a PM (by clicking my name to the left) or reply here and I'll see it.
Please excuse my ignorance, but where in my Cp is my signature, I can't find where I create one.
Thanks,
Kris.
In the CP you should see a bar on the left with the title 'Your Control Panel'. Under the subheading 'Settings & Options' you should see 'Edit Signature' as the second option.
Bear in mind it won't appear with your threads until you hit the required number of posts (25 or 50, I'm not sure).
I recently purchased the Droid Incredible and the book that came with it sucks for teaching you how to use it. Any tips on this phone would be very helpful.
