Default New "Universal" One Click Simple Root Method..

..touted as "for most Android devices"..which may or my not work, it is *new.*

How To: Root Your Android Phone (SuperOneClick Method) | TheUnlockr

I'll be testing it later today and posting my findings.

Obviously, YMMV.

Interesting. I still favor Dirrk's method over at ACForums as after watching the video above I almost think his is quicker and easier. But anyway, good stuff and yeah report back.

I did another backup (one computer, one device) and unrooted, installed my apps and did some configuring.

The above linked method was applied and the device froze on first boot at a blank/black screen.

I waited three minutes with no change, pulled the battery and replaced it, hit the power button and nothing.

The device sat dead for a few minutes while I thought about my options, mostly involving my 16 pound sledge hammer.

I hit the power button again as I got up to head out to the garage and it powered up into my default, unrooted, stock setup.

I rooted the old way.

I then restored my rooted backup from my computer and I'm happy again.

I do not recommend this method for the Fascinate (there are already nine Android devices on the list of those which this method may not work).

YMMV.

You're welcome.

I'm still wondering if any other Fascinate users will be willing to try that method.

Note to new Fascinate users who want to root: use the tried and true way..

How to Root - Android Forums as included in our Fascinate Guide:

http://androidforums.com/samsung-fascinate/180814-samsung-fascinate-guide-updated-9-oct-2010-8-40am.html

Experienced Fascinate rooters, give the new one a go and report back, if you dare.. I mean if you wish.

Agreed. Dirrk is the man.
Not to thread jack but Frisco you gotta try Dirrk's 1200LV Kernel. You get voodooEXT4, 20% more clockspeed and 20% better battery life since its undervolted as well. I love it.
In fact you might wanna add these voodoo kernals to the Guide page under the Other section? Your call but if you have the old lag fix linked you probably should have this one too

I think it's well worthy of being in the Guide. I'll do that right away. Thanks for the reminder (again ).

[edit] Done; I've included it in the Root section of the Guide.

Hey, are some great kernels!! I'm getting some killer performance, stability, AND crazy battery life out of the D02 1100 low voltage kernel.
