Default Root deactivated phone?

I got a new phone and never rooted my Fascinate. Would there be any benefit to root the phone? I never considered doing this before and I use my phone for work so I never wanted to mess with it. I don't want to brick the phone.

Thanks in advance.

root allows you to customize your phone the way you like it to be...so its your choice...If you like to play safe...just try rooting apps found in the google play store.

If you root your phone you will get full access to it.
You can make a full backup of it. You can not do this without root.
You can not brick the phone, just for you root the phone.
It is also almost impossible to brick this phone.
Personally I did root my phone after one week and I would never use the phone without root.

I agree. As long as u have Odin on ur comp, you cant brick this thing. I've "bricked" this thing so many times....and always...always get it back. Once u see all the benefits of rooting a device, u will want to root ur new one as well.

+1 on the odin... if you get it working good your set... i have issues with mine.. but my fassy is over a year old with a shattered screen and been dropped atleast twice a week since i got the damn thing...

but the fascinate is an amazing phone if you get it running aokp or miuiv4.. honestly im not sure how youve used it so long with touchwiz... i only used it for about a month because aosp roms werent stable when i got mine.. but if youd rather have something 110% stable cyanmod7 rc2 is the best gingerbread rom avaliable for the fascinate.. pair that with the glitch v13.1 and you can have your processor running up to 1.7ghz... if yours can handle it.. mine freezes past 1.44ghz

everything you could possibly need is over at xda or rootzwiki

I'll have to take some time and do this. I never get much of a chance to tinker with things time just doesn't allow. It's the kind of think I'd like to give 100% of my attention without interruption. I always wanted to root the phone based on the rewards of it but I also used my phone for work and never wanted to be without it. Once something is done wrong, it takes time to figure out how to fix it. Does anyone know where the best place to go with step by step instruction are?

This is what I've used to go stock GB, "unbrick" and then ICS:
