Hello everyone. I am having issues with my new Samsung Fascinate. I shouldn't blame the phone as it is probably just the android system. I can not receive emails on either of my accounts without manually going into my phone and hitting "load messages". I have set the emails to check every 5 minutes, but it doesn't notify me or open them until I manually do it. Love the rest of the phone. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. Mark

i'm referring to both gmail accounts and non gmail accounts
i just called verizon to figure this out. after 40 minutes of useless attempts, my verizon rep called the samsung rep and discovered that a lot of users have been having this problem and samsung knows about it. they said that they cannot do anything about it now and is working on to fix it. they have no idea why sometimes the emails will sync and then stop syncing. it will be fixed in the update that will be "released shortly."
this is pretty disappointing...i mean, out of all the apps that could have a glitch, having a glitch in the email app is pretty huge!!!! if the update is going to be released in like 2 weeks, then i guess i can wait it out. if it won't be released until another 2 months, then i don't know how i can stay with this phone....
i'm going to call the samsung customer service and ask them for more information

I think it's a sync in general issue, as I am having this issue with the social widget...sometimes my facebook stuff is updated, other times its behind. Beats HTC's Friendstream though, since that one broke entirely for about a month lol.
However, I haven't had an issue email wise that i've noticed...yet.
I'm using Launcher Pro on my rooted Fascinate. I too have problems with Gmail syncing. When I check my Gmail via my computer I see my email but it doesn't sync up with my phones Gmail. I have to manually refresh to see if I received any messages. Other things sync well like my twitter updates or my text messages.
It looks like I am getting all of my emails as long as I go in and maually refresh. I had this same problem with my Droid 1. I guess it's a toss up. You can't beat a blackberry for emails, but the rest of the phone sucks. You get a nice phone and the the email sucks. I suppose I will just manually refresh until the new update comes out. Can someone please let me know where to keep my eye out for the update? Thank you.
Just adding that I'm having the same issue. I have yahoo, gmail (x2) and hotmail. The only show up if I manually update it, except some gmail's come through now and again. I do think that this new release may help, or at least I hope so: Verizon Releases Minor Update For Samsung Fascinate
Have you guys done the update? I did the update yesterday hoping that it would help with the email syching issue, which according to verizon it is suppose to right? Well I have two aol account that I have set to check every 5 min. My gmail account checks just fine and one of my aol accounts will synch however, I am not convinced they are doing it every 5 min. However my main email account is the one that will not synch at all. If I set one the one aol account to that does synch to not sych then my main account will synch so it appears that it will only synch one account and not use a combined inbox. But my thing is I thought that the software update was suppose to fix this???? Is anyone else still having a problem???
Yup Im still having problems with it syncing my msn account. I installed the update hoping it would fix it like it says but it didnt work. I have it set to sync every hour but I can go a whole day and not get one email until I manually go in. Occasionally Ill get email alerts. It only syncs when it feels like it.
I switched to the fascinate yesterday from the Blacksberry and was i ever upset when i ran into this problem with the email. I have a hotmail account that would not notify me unless i manually hit load in the email screen. Blackberrys are so awesome for email but not as exciting and modern as this phone. I switched back to blackberry until samsung gets the problem solved. Is anyone else having issues with facebook notification not showing up unless manually logging in?
I was working fine but noticed yesterday that my Comcast account didn't seem to be syncing, and now I've discovered my gmail account is not syncing, either. WTH. My phone has the update applied.

Do you have syncing enabled? Also check the frequency on your email too?
I noticed today that when the email is set on combined mailbox, syncing is erratic and delayed by 4 hours or more. I have 4 email accounts and the only way I can retrieve the emails timely is to individually open each mailbox. I have done the update and I have turned the task manager for email off. No Luck? This is not good.
The problem I've got is it randomly decides not to send the emails I compose and they pile up in the outbox... sometimes not going for hours and sometimes days....
happens if I have wifi on more often than if turn wifi off.
vzw had no answer. just installed the minor update (one prior to 2.2 android) -- so we'll see if it solves it.

have you checked your email check frequency? if you open each email account, then hit the menu button, you can change the frequency that the phone checks your accounts. More of a pull method than push like Blackberry's. I do not use the installed email client, I prefer gmail app and it's nested email feature, but I do have some non gmail accounts that I use the installed email client for.
hey brother, I went to Settings > About phone > System updates. Then it restarted automatically. It still didn't fix it but then I manually restarted the phone and my e-mails are working again. I am still on 2.1.

I hope this helps!
The update does not give you 2.2; you will still be 2.1-update1. The OTA will change you build number. If yours ends is DI01 than you are current
I have an issue with the email client itself. When I click on attach (I'm trying to send a picture) it will sit and eventually force close. I can send the picture through the gmail app and also with K9 and Mail Droid but not the native email client.
I can send regular text email but as soon as I click the attach button it stays blue and locks up. I actually prefer the native client because it syncs wonderfully with my company Exchange server while K9 and WD don't. I've tried to clear data, reinstall my accounts, and anything else short of pulling all of my hair out.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
I need some help..i have been back into the verizon store and on the phone with tech support with no help.
I can get gmail email..but not my comcast...I have to reboot my phone to reload..I have it on 5min check and I hit refresh and still doesn't work. My husbands phone does the same.
Anyone have any ideas...?

Deb, you should probably start your own thread on this theme topic, But since Im here let me just understand accurately. Gmail = all's good. But when you use the email app your comcast is not sync'd at all? Does it even work when you manually check?
My wife was having issues with not getting her Yahoo email on her new Fascinate. After playing around some, it looked like the Yahoo client wasn't running in the background to pick up the email. If I opened the app and hit the home button to exit it, it would remain running. And new emails would show up and notify her. But if I used the back arrow to exit the app, it would close and no notifications would occur.
Has anyone else noticed this? Shouldn't it be using a difference process to download mail other than leaving the app open? I tried both the built-in email client as well as the Yahoo App. Both worked the same.

My Comcast is acting the same...sent stuff won't go at all and I rarely get incoming stuff (though I did just receive a facebook notification...something I really DON'T care to get).
I thought I was posting a new thread..I will try to do it..
Yes I send my self from work email...to gmail..goes right through..but the comcast emails..everyday I have to power off and power on to get them going again...and sometimes during the day have to power off again....
I am having issues getting email updates for my comcast account as well. I have gone to settings and about phone and tried to get updates and there have not been any available. I love the phone otherwise, but this is REALLY annoying. The main reason I got a smartphone is to check email. Are any of the other droids better at receiving emails? I just signed up with Verizon and have 30 days to switch phones. I would hate to switch but if this problem cannot be fixed it will be necessary...
I have the same problem with my Comcast account. I have to manually look for new messages. This is a big deal for me as I really want to be able to utilize e-mail on my phone. Additionally, is there any way to delete the entire Inbox? So far, all I've been able to do is delete them one by one or put check marks in every box. Seems very ineffective. Ideas?
Anyone having any luck with comcast? I have till Saturday and both mine and my husbands phones are going to go back...We really rely on comcast email...On another thread..someone advised me to forward to gmail..but I don't want to have to do that?
Anyone know about comcast and the Droid x? Is it samsung that is having this issue??????
Having the same random email fetch AND send issue. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't...... I came from Blackberry as well and looks like I'm going back. I got the SF via Best Buy Free Friday and I have until the end of this month. Everything on the FS is great so far EXCEPT the email, and this is the main reason I have a smart phone.

Similar problems here with an msn account (only email set up for this line!). Sync is set for every 15 minutes. Some days, it does, some days it doesn't sync at all. VERY frustrating for a smartphone! Any fixes yet!?
I'm disappointed with e-mail as well coming from a BlackBerry. For non gmail accounts you need to try k-9 mail or maildroid since they support IMAP IDLE, i.e. "push e-mail". I'm using K-9 mail and I'm having some issues with it but most of the time you do get your e-mail instantly.
I have had my Fascinate for 24 hours and it's nothing but trouble. I'm having the same issues. Email has only sync'd twice in 24 hours and it is set to sync every 10 minutes. I don't think it matters where your email is coming from. I am having the problem with my primary Earthlink account not updating email, Gmail too. I got K9 and it does the same thing, you have to manually retrieve your email and even then that doesn't always work. I tried software updates and it says "unable to connect with server". Spent my whole Saturday morning online trying to correct the server problem. No luck there either. By monday I may be back to my trusty old Blackberry.
Use IMAP if you can. If not, make sure K-9 is set to poll every so often.
I have gmail, an IMAP account and a POP account. I have K-9 set to poll every 15 minutes and have tried other intervals. Sometimes I get gmail but I never get email from the other accounts unless I got into each account and manually request new mail. For anyone that relies on email, this could be a deal breaker on a very good phone.
To add insult to injury...The signature is common to ALL email accounts ! I am involved with multiple companies and have multiple email accounts to represent each company. In the past, with my BB, I was able to have a different sig for each account giving my title and contact info for each company....
I would love to be wrong here......anyone willing to prove me wrong??
Any new info on this? Bought my wife the Fascinate and her Comcast email worked fine for the first week, yesterday it started having issues with sync. Even trying to manually check it just keeps trying to retrieve messages. Power cycle seems to work, but what a pain!
I had the same problem, but think I have it figured out. The Verizon store installed a task killer app before I even held the phone. It was set to shut down the email program when shutting down other apps running in the background. When I turned off the auto-kill for the email, it seemed to start working much better. Sometimes it still has minor issues, but this solved it for the most part, with both aol and gmail accounts.

Yeah there's a lot of under-education at VZW RE:ATK
Hi folks..I downloaded MailDroid for my Fascinate and so-far-so-good. I am using a Hotmail, and yahoo (2) accounts. I have sent several test emails and all arrive safely. Thanks for the info that you all have posted. I was seriously on the verge of sending the phone back. I talked with VZW, Best Buy, & Samsung reps - They were all no HELP..The Samsung folks told me to download a email client app but they couldn't give any certain name....But any way.it's cool..I'm happy again..I was super frustrated earlier.
to say the least this is VERY annoying and upsetting!~
i can not send and email and i too need to sign in or refreash to get my mail. i am going to call samsung later today and if they don't have a solution i will return the phone today.
i am pretty upset as i love the phone but if it can't handle a simple email task i have no hope for the 2.2 upgrade they will "some day" come out with.
I too am experiencing some of the problems cited on this thread. Most days I am able to retrieve email with my two POP 3 accounts on a regualr basis (not sure if the 5 minute setting works but at least it works on a somewhat recurring basis). However, some days (Like today), I haven't seen an email at all. When I checked my email through my laptop, I saw I had 15-20 new emails today yet the phone hadn't gotten any of them!#$@%
Sometimes "rebooting" my phone seems to triogger the retrieval and sending and I am good to go. I too also have periodic issues with just sending, especially when I forward or reply.
All in all, this is a great phone but if I can't get email reliably with it, I may have to move on. That would suck.
2nd Fascinate after I believed the device was faulty and completely disheartened with the products email syncing still. Somewhat relieved (after spending no less than 12 hours on the phone with both Verizon and Samsung both) to learn that other users are having this issue. Soft and hard resets 4 times on both devices, updates done, just nothing seems to fix this problem. I have not tried another email management app - PRAYING Samsung will update this, but their Level 3 tech support told me that this was the first time he had heard of the problem, is he kidding? Look at this forum! With that being said, I have lost hope that an update is coming out to fix it.
Doesn't automatically check for email. I have two accounts setup, both of them set to check every 5 minutes and they never do without me manually telling it to.
Secondly, downloading email is slow no matter how fast the connection is.
Last, deleting email is sooooooooooooo slow. If select 5 emails to be deleted, it literally will take at LEAST 30 seconds to delete them. If i tell it to "delete all" it will end up saying that email app has stopped responding and ask if i want to wait or force close.
experiencing similar problem. Have 2 gmail accounts, phone doesn't seem to refresh, shows email number in inbox, but doesn't show email. thanks to everyone for trying, hopefully a fix will come

Problem Fixed!
For those of you who are experiencing problems with email syncs please rest assured the problem will be fixed with the soon to be here update. For those who are rooted I suggest you upgrade your modem and DJ05 file, this not only fixes email syncs but other issues such as GPS, etc. see this page for fix details Update coming, but not 2.2
I can confirm this is fixed because prior to my POP account was not being synced every 5 minutes like i had it, and my exchange account would sync when it felt like it.
After the upgrade, my POP and exchange accounts are syncing as expected.
I am having same issues as posted here. I called Verizon and told them I wanted one of two things. Either let me out of my contract that i resigned to purchase the phone or give me a discount on the unlimited data plan that I am paying for until the update comes out. He gave me 10% off my total phone bill for 6 months. At least it's something.
