Default All about steaks

My favorite meat there is, I can never have enough. Thought I'd start off a thread dedicated to everything about steaks. Anything from just saying what your favorite steak is, to sharing tips on how to make the perfect steak.

I'll start out by saying my favorite steak would have to be the New York Strip, cooked Medium rare! Only when I make it myself.. when I go out and have a steak, I tend to order sirloins because I just haven't had a go strip out eating.

So what do you say?

Not much of a steak fan but all I gotta say is cook it at home. You can get a beautiful cut at Whole Foods, season it simply and grill it yourself for so much cheaper than going out.

Last year I had the opportunity to do the woodwork in a new home for one of the top sales managers for Cargill.. a meat producer that has a footprint in 65 countries. In the course of working for the guy, he graced me with a couple of slabs of KC strips. You had to cut the slabs into steaks but OMG were they good. I got the distinct impression that all beef is not created equal. You had to be careful when turning these steaks on the grill because they would fall apart. Steaks to die for.

Kobe is awesome .. but also awesomely expensive. I like steak, but not that much

My fav is ribeye - though fillet's a close second. Has to be rare to blue. Not quite Wipe-its-Ass-and-Stick-it-on-the-Plate, but close.

Sirloin, not so much. It's too often stringy or tough.

And like the man says: have it at home. In a good restaurant, the chef will be insulted if you order steak. It'd be like asking House for an aspirin.

Only have tried Kobe once at one of the more famous places in DC, Komi.
It was made into a mini gyro. Thought it was good, but nothing that special.

I've never had any kobe beef. I have certainly read about it. Every serious steak lover has. I understand the cows are so pampered that they are even massaged.

I love steak. I make my steaks in a frying pan with a dry rub cooked medium. I like to keep it simple when I cook them

It was good but we were out walking NY city and my mother in-law recommended we go to Uncle Jacks since we were walking by it. Little did I know it was going to be $300 for the 2 of us. Good food but I don't think we will be doing it again anytime soon.

Most places are like that in NYC. I remember going to a hole in the wall that looked cheap and turned out they had plates of Apps that were upwards of $30. Mind you, I think they has like two bites.

for me my cut is ribeye. i get nice fat ones from costco.....i swear they have the best cuts of meat around as well as the best price for it.

depending on my mood, i like it med rare with only a light season of salt and pepper. no steak sauce or anything crazy. i grill it most of the time when i have it at home.
