Default T-Mobile G1 Cradle from Wirelessground

I ordered the G1 cradle from www.wirelessground.com on the 15th of this month. I just received it today and thought I would share with you my thoughts on it. All in all I am very happy with it. I got the one that charges a spare battery at the same time as the phone. It will charge from the pc or from ac. Ac adapter included as well as a data cable for pc hookup. I will post some pics at the end so you can see it all set up. When I first opened it and unpackaged it I seen that it comes with Data cable, Ac adapter and cradle. All very staightforward. So I plugged it all in and placed the spare battery in its slot and went to put the phone in. Thats when I noticed that the cover for the charger port on the phone gets in the way. It will not let the phone fit down in the cradle properly. My solution to this was to just remove said cover. (see pic) Then the phone fit perfectly. I saved the cover and checked if it would stay on the phone after charging and it does with no problem. So no loss there. I would say that this was money well spent. The cradle seems and feels very sturdy and well put together. The phone slides in very easily and seats well and securely in the cradle. As I said I ordered on the 15th of this month and got it today the 22nd. So shipping is decent as well. (shipped usps ground) If I had to rate this on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best, I would give it a solid 9. Thats because of the charger port cover not fitting.
The cradle sells for $24.95 plus 3.00 SH plus tax for a total of $28.90 in all. I think the price is very fare and reasonable for the cradle. So if you are looking for a cradle give it a look. They also have one for the phone alone without the spare battery charger bay. Here is the web page of the cradles http://www.wirelessground.com/tmobileg1.html

Now for some pics sorry for the pic quality. They didnt look blury till I posted them.

It's nice that it charges a spare battery at the same time.

But what is the advantage of using a cradle as opposed to just plugging it into the PC with USB cable or using the AC charger?

There are a couple reasons for a cradle. One is that it gets the phone up off its back so you can see the screen better. Another is that it keeps the back from becoming all scuffed from slideing around on it. Another is it makes the phone easier to find if you have a desk like mine at work. Lol! After reading back over this post it almost sounds like I am talking about a callgirl. Lol!

Thats because of the charger port cover not fitting.
this is one thing that has been putting me off from jumping in and getting a car cradle. none of the holders have any space left available for the 'flap'.
personally I wouldn't have minded if they never put a cover on, as my last 2 phones had an open connector and I never had any problems. but, I don't like the idea of ripping something off the phone (no matter how small and insignificant it is).
does the cover 'clip' off in any way, or is it just a case of once off, its staying off?

Once its off its off. Tho you can put it back on when not in the charger like I do. It just no longer has the little plastic attachment to the phone any longer.

I ended up getting the cradle from fommy it is a little different than the one pictured here. One thing that it does have is a recessed area for the charging port cover, so you don't have to tear it off. It has a purple LED about an inch wide in front of the phone which provides a gentle glow so you can find your phone at 3am. On the back it has a place to plug in the AC charger and one for the USB sync cable and an audio output 3.5mm so you can run it to some speakers or the line in on your sound card. It also has a spare battery charger under a cover in the back. It holds the phone up so you can see who is calling and you don't have to switch back and fourth between your pc and ac charger. You are not trying to find the end of your charger cable behind the couch or under your desk. I see room for improvement in that I would only like the LED to come on when the phone is in the cradle, it currently stays on all the time. I have not used the extra battery charger but suspect it will be adaquet for keeping a second battery topped off and ready to go. Also if you use a hard case it has to come off to put the phone in. Over all I would recomend this product. http://fommy.com/view-full-page.asp?divid=T-Mobile&model=T-Mobile+G1&skuno=82000
