I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand G1, maybe putting Cyanogenmod on it. I'm in the UK and have an existing Vodafone SIM-only deal with 500 MB data which I'd use. I'd have to unlock the phone if it's bought locked, and also I have seen discussion of gmail on some forums that I didn't quite follow.

So this post is to check, is there anything I need to know or anything that's likely to go wrong, and what's the quickest cheapest way to get it fully operational, before buying.
