Welcome to the forums... and to clear the cache from the market simply go to settings > applications > manage applications > market and then click the clear cache button
AFAIK it cannot be done from phone settings. I believe it can be done if you have root and you delete the relevant file. I have seen a post on here before that names the file.
anyone have a link to that maybe i can write an app to do this if i know what file it is ?

Any app that use cache can be cleared by the following method :
System settings > Applications > Manage Applications
Then search for That Application, long press it then hit clear cache
SO.....
System settings > Applications > Manage Applications
Then Find Market, LongPress Market then hit clear cache
Then Find Browser, LongPress Browser then hit clear cache

You DO need to be Rooted :
I understand what you mean now ... the link to that is
I just used the "File Manager- Apps Manager" selected Market, Uninstalled. It's in the firmware so it can't actually uninstall, it just resets the market, and History is gone.
Note This was on my Android Samsung captivate, YMMV
Here I tried but could not 'clear cache' because it was already empty, so I reckoned that I probably should try the 'clear data' instead.
NOTE. For the record, I also tried going to 'settings> applications > manage applications >Internet' to clear cache but when that did not work, I went back to 'settings> applications > manage applications >Market', and when I checked again in the Android Market, it prompted me to 'Accept' and once inside market, I found that the Android Market search history was gone.

I used marketplaceeraser and it worked awesome. I have android 1.5 so not sure if it will work for you, but you can try.
just download market history eraser [azrael].. And delete all history,
u can even choose to automatically delete newly created history shortcuts.
i tried it and it worked. goodluck!
Do you have other versions of the market place than me (gingerbread 2.3.5)? Load android market, go to settings, press "Clear search history" and I'm done. Works like a charm, all search history in the market place is deleted. Or are you talking about something else? I never have to go into the phones settings.
