Activity Messaging (in application Messaging) is not responding

About once in every 5-10 times I use the Messaging (SMS/MMS) application built into Android on my G1, I get the following error:

Activity Messaging (in application Messaging) is not responding

along with options to "Force close" or "Wait".

I'm using the T-Mobile network in the UK.

Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone have an idea what's causing this problem, or suggestions about where to report a bug, etc?

I should mention that I've got about 1.5GB free on the SD card and 31MB free internal memory.

Also, although I do have a handful of rather long txt threads (several hundred messages), the error sometimes appears when I'm using the Messaging app to access other, shorter txt threads. In other words, I think the error isn't dependent upon the length of the thread being viewed.
