Default Ascend G300 Downgrade to gingerbread

Hi, I bought a Huawei Acsend G300 from ebay a while ago and it is running very slowly. I went about downgrading from ics to gingerbread (it says android version 4.0.3) and I noticed it says build number INFUSION B06. Does this mean the original owner put custom firmware on it? If so, how can I change to official gingerbread to make the phone faster?

Thanks in advance, Mike

if it was done via a root custom ROM you can possibly search somewhere and find a stock ROM in 'nandroid' (that's backup) form. if it was done that way it should have a custom recovery in it, like TWRP or ClockworkMod. if it was done OTA, there may be no going back to GB, as i have read some who OTA upgraded now have entirely different bootloaders and it's a one way trip.

Sorry but I'm very new to android, could you explain in much simpler terms how I can find out if was a custom rom and how to then downgrade?

You would have to root and put on a custom ROM to downgrade. I will move this to the Ascend g300 all things root forum

It does appear that you are rooted

first try installing something like Terminal Emulator. then open it.

it will look a lot like DOS (if you're that old) and you'll get a '$' symbol. type 'su' and hit return on the on-screen keyboard. if it pops up saying 'this app is trying to get super user access' with a 'grant' and 'deny' button, hit 'grant'. then type 'reboot recovery' and hit enter. if the device has a custom ROM it should boot into that custom recovery image. would show up as either ClockworkMod or TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP). if it just loads the phone's stock factory backup software, it's not a custom ROM.

when you find that out, it's as simple as searching Google for the stock rom 'nandroid' image for your phone's model.

Rxpert, the OP is trying to determine if it already has a custom ROM on it already or not. it's possible to downgrade if it does, but highly unlikely if it was an OTA update.

Thanks for that! It is a custom rom I think as it says CWM-based recovery v4.0.15. What is a 'nandroid' image and how do I now go about putting the original firmware on the phone?

Thanks again, Mike
