Default General Problems rooting Samsung Galaxy GT I5500 on 3 network

I have exactly the same problem on the Galaxy GT I5500 from 3UK. Also with Android v2.2 froyo as standard. Apart from Universal Android Rooter, I've also tried the z4root app but it just froze the phone and I had to remove the battery to recuperate it. I'm still searching the net for possible solutions.

THIS WANT I DID AND IT WORKED AFTER TRYING EVEYTHING

1st I reset my phone (u will lose all your data so back it up ie bookmark, contacts etc) as it will be as if you have just taken it out of the box for the ist time.
REST IS--
SETTINGS - PRIVACY - THE FACTORY DATA RESET
When thats done you need to turn on USB DEBUGING.
SETTINGS - APPLICATIONS - DEVELOPMENT the tick USB DEBUGGING after the click home
2nd copy and paste this link
How to root your Samsung Device | MadTeam
3rd Go to ( FIRST OF ALL DOWNLOAD THE REGUIRED fILE ) (FILE IS IN BLUE)
4th Make sure you have SAMSUNG KIES on you PC (USE THE BLUE LINK )
5th You will need to unzip the 1st file you downloaded (put in in a new folder so u know whats what
6th CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO UR PC
7th in the 1st file u downloaded when unziped you will see ( root ) click the and wait
leave for a while be dont mess with the phone you will see a black box with info on what going on somtime it say sleeping just leave it dont touch !! at the end it will turn you phone off
8th Turn back on and you will see super user witch show nothing straight away
I then install ROOT CHECKER BASIC to check root, then installTITANIUM BACKUP
I and now looking into more info what to do next DO NOT JUST UNINSTALL SYSTEM SOFTWERE WITHOUT CHECKING IF IT OK TO REMOVE,
HOPE THIS HELPS IF NOT READ THE IST LINK I GIVE YOU GOOD LUCK !!!

Excellent! Thank you very much. It worked.

I didn't bother doing the factory reset so I didn't lose my data or settings. And it still worked OK.

Thanks again. :-)
