[TUTORIAL] Unbrick Mini S5570 (Bricked With Black Screen)
First off I want to say I cannot guarantee this will work for you nor can I take any responsibility for damages done to your phone following this tutorial. This is my first tutorial on the forum and i would really appreciate as much feedback as possible if this worked for you and even if it did not and why.
This tutorial is to unbrick your Galaxy mini, after a bad flash where you are getting errors in odin such as “setup connection” or “Serial port” problems. I have bricked my phone 3 times with a bad firmware leaving a blank screen, unable to get into download mode, and every time I’ve received a different response with the method.
Therefore this will require alot of your time in order to make it work. And i apologize in advance for any mistake, it took me all day to do this 3 times! And all 3 times resulted in success! Anyways let’s do tha’ business
---------------------------------
The main problem why you receive the error “setup connection” is because of a bad driver somewhere, so let’s start from scratch to ensure we get results.
Start by uninstalling the “Samsung USB” drivers and reboot your computer
Plug in the phone with battery inserted, windows may or may not play a sound.
After you plug in the phone, under “devices and printer” you will see “Samsung CDMA Technologies” with an error mark next to it.
This means windows has detected your phone, if you unplug the phone it will disappear, confirming it is no longer connected to windows.
Now with the phone still plugged in, install the drivers through Kies
Click okay, unplug the phone and close Kies, reboot your computer.
After starting up windows, plug the phone back in, windows will play a device connect sound.
Now open odin, odin will detect your phone even though you are not in download mode and should say
<1> Added!!!
<1>Detected!!!
At this point follow these steps
Step 1 – Prepare Odin with a WORKING firmware and make sure everything is ready to go
Step 2 – Remove battery, SIM card and SD card, and connect your phone if it isn’t already connected
Step 3 – Hold Volume down + Power + Home button at the same time
Step 4 – Insert the battery while holding down the above buttons
(Windows will detect your phone and start to install/configure the same drivers again wait for the drivers to finish installing)
Click start and wait for any error message All should be well now and your phone should flash back to a working firmware, but if that is not the case and you still receive “setup connection” error continue...
If this is what you got or "Setup connection" continue...
If that did not work for you, unplug your phone remove the battery and reboot your computer
Once windows has started
• Click start then right click “Computer” then go to “manage”, when the manager window open click “device manager”
• Expand the drop down menu for USB (Universal Serial bus controllers)
• Right click and uninstall “Samsung USB composite device”
• Restart your computer
After starting up windows connect back the phone and more drivers should install
Now repeat step 1 to 4
It will most likely result in the same error and if so, open Kies, while Odin is still running and install the drivers again, this window may appear
I have no idea what this means there is a driver bug somewhere here between Kies and Odin
After installing the drivers, close odin, and remove the battery, follow step 1 to 4 again
If it fails, close kies and close odin, remove the phone battery
Now open odin load the files and prepare to flash,
And repeat step 1 to 4
A driver window will pops up showing Odin being installed
As soon as the yellow box appears in Odin hit the start button!
You will then see this, in the driver box, and as you can see Odin started installing the firmware.
In order for this to work, you may have to follow the extended part of the tutorial several times
If this is what you see instead though, it's too late and you must go back to step 1
This tutorial is very complicated and I have tried to explain it as best as I can, hope it help some of you guys.
PS. If you have any USB driver problems or windows deleted problems with device managers or drivers in general causing errors you must fix these problems first or use a different computer, if the drivers wont install properly you cannot do it on that computer.
EDIT: Gingerbread 2.3.4 firmware, I can confirm this works
Great Post...
Now - All I need is to charge my battery and test it.
How the F*#@ i do that with out my phone and without a charger?
(...and without ordering from ebay $2 charger and wait 40 days till its arrive...)
:-(

I cannot confirm this, but during the making of the tutorial i think it's possible that your pc can charge the battery while the screen is off, if windows recognize it... i think it will charge while windows try to access to the sd card.
Or your other option is to buy another battery, you don't need to get a charger as a battery will come charged at around 50% It's a chance to get an upgraded battery
I'm sorry the tutorial was so late i had to try it several times to make sure it works, i still haven't had anyone who's tried it to confirm it works for them yet though, would be really appreciated if anyone who's tried it and had success let me know

The problem here is... its all black screen so when i simply just plugin the mobile to the pc with battery on windows does not detects anything.. but when i go to download mode n then plug it then windows detects the phone and install these drivers...
so after that when i make the odin ready n try to enter the download mode again... no drivers such as odin driver is installed n thus stuck on setup connection againn...

yeah it happens because of drivers, the exact same thing happened to me... after flashing to a bad firmware the errors start, It took me many hours to do this but it works. Nothing is wrong with the motherboard for you phone, that is just some BS they tell you. There is a hidden partition on the phone for recovery purposes...

Keep trying it couple of times... it never works first time for me, and possibly try uninstalling the drivers while your phone is plugged in but not in download mode then restart and reinstall the drivers keeping your phone plugged in the whole time.
It's a good idea to check your device manager for any driver errors you may have in windows
hey my phone bricked by reboot into recovery mod using rom manager...after i tab it..the screen turn black..no donwload mode or recovery mode...but when i pressed vol UP +menu +power and plug in to the pc its detected...anyone have the same problem...??

hello my phone s5570 bricked using rom manager...my phone can only detect by pc by pressing vol up+center+power...how to fix it???
I got my phone replaced by the store but there is tutorial where it says the phone can be forced to download mode via connecting three 100k ohm resistors connected in series. The ends of the resistors should touch pins 3 and 5 of the USB connector. The two pins nearest the headphone jack.

thanks...i'll try it tonight...if this method did not work..??should i send it to service center...
the thing that i know if we root it..the waranty wil be void...right..??
Couldnt manage the phone to be detected on the PC by just plugging in... With all the restrained anger and frustration i finally gave the phone to a local repair store here in BANGLADESH as because i dont have any warranty.. SO what they did is they repaired the boot of the phone by writing new boot to n then it entered downloading mode also showing on the screen too... after that they flashed new rom with ODIN...
For this service it cost me 2000 taka which means $25

If your phone is detected by Odin --it will show something like COM 5, in yellow background at the top side-- then you can conitnue flashing your device with gingerbread firmware.
hey plzz help me....i got every image u shown....just cant get that odin driver installation how did u do it....in odin com port changes to yellow but always i get "setup connection" or "cannot open the usb serial port. code: 5" error.
I restarted ma PC several times.. As soon as i restart windows installs drivers nd thats it again the same...if i open odin it detects too but gets stuck again..!!
If it doesn't detect then remove the battery and other cards (sim and sd) from your device. COnnect it to pc. Hold down Volume Down + Home + Power Buttons and then at the same time insert the battery.
Now you should be on download mode and your phone should be detected by Odin. Hit start and flash the new firmware.

Hey i've tried it and i did excactly what you say..In the middle of this when i used odin it told me that it had problem with usb portal code.
At the end when i used odin it stucks on setup..
What shall i do now?? :S
I tried this:
Step 1 – Prepare Odin with a WORKING firmware and make sure everything is ready to go
Step 2 – Remove battery, SIM card and SD card, and connect your phone if it isn’t already connected
Step 3 – Hold Volume down + Power + Home button at the same time
Step 4 – Insert the battery while holding down the above buttons
But after I put in the battery, nothing happens..any suggestions?
Hold down volume down + power + home button before and exactly while inserting the battery

Uninstall all the drivers and do it from the start again.
If there are people still stuck with there phone and have not found a solution nor has the tutorial worked for them, if you are okay with it you can post your phone to me and i will fix it and send it back to you free of charge.
I'm in the UK, London, and there is no garantee i will be able to fix it, either way i will send your phone back free
Since your bricked phone is now considered junk/useless/brick i don't think it would be an issue of trust posting it to me as i'm doing it for free. That is the only other help i can give other than the tutorial

my windows doesnt recognize my phone, shit !!!, btw i bricked my phone using that GODDAMN ROM MANAGER selected "Reboot from recovery mode" and then after that the device turned off. It would not turn on anymore! Can't enter download mode and recovery mode, screen is off, no backlights. Odin would not detect it too. Please help.
Actually I try to update my froyo 2.2.1 to Gingerbread 2.3.4 through Odin. Everything goes fine, but when Odin says RESET . at that moment my cell phone goes blank .. dead or u can say bricked. i removed the battery sd card then tried to Switch On the phone but nothing works. When i try to connect it via pc .. only odin detects it by some port i didnt remember. Then i followed the steps, and it works for me, in the very first attempt thats the story
I tried this tutorial but unfortunatelly is not working for me. I got port from the ODIN but it gave me the "setup connection" or the "wrong usb port" messages. I pressed the start button as the yellow box appeared.
I bricked my phone in the CWM so this process is maybe not good for me.
Hey...help me....my computer & odin only detect my mini(GT-S5570) when i press Vol Up+Home+Power ....i can't open download mode(Vol down+Home+Power)...
In the odin, it display 1(COM4) with Yellow color and , when i press start,it shows
I tried this, but Im using Windows XP.
None of the pictures from "Installing drivers" appear so its hard to know...
It didn't worked, atleast for me in Windows XP.
Just wonderinf if I did something bad...
Can this fix black screen, no boot, no nothing on my galaxy mini?
Computer and Odin detects it, but when i click on "start" in odin, it stays at setup connection, and my phone can't get into Dowload Mode.

i get the samsung logo on and off,and i tried with odin
<1> Close serial port and wait until rebooting.
<1> PASS!!!
<0> Destroy instant..
<0> Killed timer

hi, i bricked my s5570 when i installed a wrong version of clockworkmod on my device. the mod installed okay but the next moment my phone just went black without any tone or vibration. i tried volumedown+home+power & home+power but to no avail. so googled my query & come to yr tutorial. i followed it word to word but my prob is that neither does my phone shows up in the devices & printers altogether nor does odin detects it. so i uninstalled the drivers & reboot, connected my phone thru usb but no sign of it anywhere in my pc & i even checked thru device manager but no good, then i reinstalled drivers using kies, reboot, took off my battery, sim, sdcard then pressed voldwn+home+pwr buttons all at once & reinserted the battery & kept holding for nearly a minute but nothing happened. is there any chance i can still unbrick it.
note - only yesterday did i upgraded my phone to gingerbread 2.3.6 thru kies. also while i was installing the clockworkmod i was actually trying to back up current rom & since rom manager was unable to recognize my device, i just chose the very first listing that rom manager displayed. while the clockworkmod was installing thru wifi, my phone was also connected thru usb.
anyways i wud b extremely grateful if u cud provide me with a solution. thanx a lot.
