What is rooting?
Rooting your Android device involves adding in a small Linux application called “su”. It stands for SuperUser, and allows applications and commands to run with elevated permissions. Everything that runs code, whether it’s an application or the user, has a permission level set by the operating system.
Why Linux? Well the heart of the Android operating system is the Linux kernel. You'll hear a lot of nerdy geek-speak about the Linux kernel, but all you really need to know is that it's what is interfacing Android to your hardware, and ultimately has complete control. When you stray outside the "normal" way of using Android and start entering commands directly, the kernel is who you're talking to.
The root user is the boss and can do anything (good or bad) on the device. From simple things like clearing the cache from core applications, to more advanced things like wirelessly tethering a laptop or iPod touch through your phone, root can do it. The su program is a sort of gateway that lets applications or users act as root while doing tasks.
It's Getting root or rooting your phone is the process of modifying the operating system that shipped with your device to grant you complete control over it.
This means you can overcome limitations that the carriers and manufacturers put on your phone, extend system functionality, and even upgrade it to a custom flavor of Android.
The name root comes from the Linux operating system world, where the most privileged user on the system (otherwise known as Administrator on Windows) is called root.
Benefits of rooting?
Most people want to root their phones for one reason: loading custom ROMs. A ROM, when it is applied to smartphone operating systems, is a fully customized image that alters the function and form of the device.Another benefit of obtaining Root is the use of Root-only applications. Some applications require Superuser permissions in order to operate. You can think of “Superuser” as a limitless administrative role for the Android OS. It is given full control over what can be done on the software level. Superuser requires Root, and thus, so do certain apps. You can download Terminal apps which allow you to enter Android OS code to communicate with the system, Drocap2 which can take screengrabs anywhere on the phone, Adfree which disables advertisements on the web and in other apps, etc… There are many very cool programs being created specific to Root users!
One of the richest abilities given to Root users is scripting and customization. Given a mix of apps, the SDK, and scripts, Root users can change the way their phone feels and operates. Things like skinning every aspect of the OS, upgrading features that aren’t yet released, and creating all new functionality altogether could not be possible without Root.
How to root Galaxy mini?
If ur mini is on froyo then u can root it using Superoneclick
explained here: Rooting of samsung mini
A stock ROM is the version of the phone's operating system that comes with your phone when you buy it.
A custom ROM is a fully standalone version of the OS, including the kernel (which makes everything run), apps, services, etc - everything you need to operate the device, except it's customized by someone in some way.
So what does the "customized" part mean? Since Android is open source, developers are free to take stock ROMs, modify them, strip them of garbage, optimize them, add things, and pretty much do whatever their imagination and skills allow.

1.flash to gb(which already i have)..
2.install cwm..
3.download the zip file of cm7 to sd..
4.go to recovery mode firstly wipe the data and then choose install from zip and install it.. ..
some doubts i have..
1.should i be rooted before installing cwm or cm7..?any specific version of gb should i be on..right now i am on kpi..
2.should the "data wipe" be done before installing from zip or after..and there are many options right like wipe data, wipe cache,etc..so please be specific..
3.after flashing to cm7 is the procedure same to fash back to froyo or gb..i.e,using odin...?
4.what are the steps to be taken to overclock after installing cm7...?
5.how to make partitions to use a2sd gui..and how to use a2sd gui..i use a 2gig card is it enough..?
6.are the steps same to flash to rom by parasmi..are themes and oc available in parasmi's final version rom...
please provide the link for latest patched version of cm7 for mini and also for the rom by prasmi....
sorry for asking so many questions. i want to be clear before flashing so that i dont brick my phone..

First of all all the best for upgrading!!!
Yes you are right. (but be careful in recovery go to install zip from sdcard>choose zip from sdcard option and don't select apply update.zip option)
No you don't need to be rooted to flash cwm or cm7. cm7 comes pre rooted.
Wipe data and wipe cache partition both before and after flashing cm7 for better performance and to flash without errors...
Yes the steps are same to flash to froyo and gb. Just get a gb or froyo rom and flash in odin ( this will remove custom recovery also)
Though steps might be same the oc and other patches might be different..
For partitioning your sdcard, go to CWM recovery>advance options>Partition your sdcard . THe size depends of how much apps will you install but at any cost 500 mb should be enough unless you want your large games to be installed on sd-ext.
yaga thanks on that..i am thinking of flashing rom by parasmi as i require "fm"...please provide the link for that..are themes and oc available on the parasmi's rom...and what is the difference b/w ext partition 1,partion2 and partition3...? which one should i do to use a2sdgui...?
Ok..is the mthd same to make ext4
ie, using cwm..in advanced option?
dont worry cwm doesnt ask for ext3/4 options. yes partition is done in advanced option.
by default it creates ext3 i believe and ext3 is good enough for everything.
but u can later convert ext3 to ext 4 if u need.

Here you go!!! download.andro-id.net/index.php?dir=GT-S5570/Cyanogenmod/&file=update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-01102011.zip
Its super fast and speedy. no need to flash any patchs, just copy two modules cifs.ko and tun.ko to /system/lib/modules

Yes, CM7 is completely working is probably free of most bugs found in previous versions. You can falsh it without fear. dta2sd works very well eith cm7. Just flash it the right way. Need help on installing dta2sd read this
ALso, to go back to gb, flash gb rom from samfirmware. Its the same procedure you followed while upgrading to gingerbread... (Wipe data and cache before flashing gb)

Use root explorer and click the button R/W at the top to change to read write mode...
Dt a2sd works automatically once you install it... (make sure your phone reboots again after you reboot your phone from recovery while flashing a2sd, its not abnormal.)
It won't be necessaey if you aren't a huge gamer. About 500mb is enough for normal users.
followed the steps stated in your blog...
got the following error when installing from zip..
"it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to cwm 3.0 gb based recovery, please switch to edify scripting (updater-script and update binary) to create working update zip package.
Installation aborted"
hey yaga the dt a2sd link mentioned in your blog didnt work for me...installed it from other...i was able to flash sucessfully in cwm..then i rebooted my phone.but again it didnt restart....now i dont know its working or not..take a look at the screenshots in zip file and tell me what has happened... ..i think its not workin..

Your sd-ext seems mounted at boot .... So, can't figure whats going wrong.
Backup your current rom and apps
Format sd-ext
mount it at boot and flash the script in CWM recovery
[It might take some time for your phone to restart once you reboot from recovery.. ]
Try again as above... It should work...
To check if apps are linked to /sd-ext go to /sd-ext/app and see if your app are there or not also at /data/app check the size at the top of RE to match the size of /sd-ext/app folder...
You can also type a2sd check at terminal and see for APPS - LInked to SDcard OR install A2SDGUI and see check to see APPS ARE ON SDCARD on A2SD settings....
Well in your first post the A2SD was running as user not as root. So he was printing you access denied. If everything is working your app files davik-cache and etc.. should be on sd-ext only a link is on /data. Now check how much storage space left you have on your phone memory trough Settings > Storage. On the botton there is free space for internal memory . Please post how much space you have left in you internal memory trough Settings
take a look at the scr shots in zip...i am really confused now....
so what next...?
It seems A2SD is working on your phone...
You can install A2SDGUI from market and use it, its the GUI that provides you to manage the settings of the script. You can also check there to see whether apps are on sdcard or not... It will say APPS are on sd on the A2SD tab.
netas here you go..i think its working...dont no why it didnt restart
now i will download a2sd gui and i mark dalvik cache on sd-ext is that it...and now from on wards all the apps that i install go to sd partition automatically...right..?
dt a2sd working perfectly.....!is their any way to uninstall the stock adw launcher...?
I pretty much like go launcher....I think adw is laggy...and please give me the link for some great themes...and what about fc's in market is nobody facing this problem ....I am getting lot of it..especially when I view the pics....?

Try fixing Permissions in CWM recovery advance options.

You will lose al your data on old sd-card if you partition right away. You will need to do this instead:
COpy all data of sd-card to computer or any other storage media. Change your sd-card with 8 GB. or, [Partition your sd-card] Again Copy all your data back to your new sd-card from your pc.
OR, you can mount both new and old sd-card to your pc with the help of card reader. Then copy data from old sdcard to new one. Now you can use new one that also has same data.

can i do with usb storage?or just unmount from settings and mount on pc?then ....i have card reader but just qui.....for knowlege thanks......
You can do either way...
The main thing is to copy all data from old to new one. And it doesn't matter how you do that.
You might connect one with usb storage, another with card reader and then copy from and to another. (Since FLash disk are slower, this method will cost you a huge time.)
Or,
connect old one with pc, copy its contents/data to pc and then connect new one and copy all data from pc.
Good Luck!!! (I will also need to change my memory card, 4 GB is not enough after partitioning,)
Got it guys.
My mistake, I didnt chose the OPS file..
its done now thanks...
But after installing this ver 4.0.0.5, I booted into recovery mode, then tried to do backup (Nandbackup) of original ROM which came with the phone but it didnt do anything, also there was no nand backup thing available in there??
it threw an error - "Unnamed file not found"???
What to do?
Thanks
It seems to have flashed correctly... Did you reboot your device to recovery and saw any changes. make sure you connect your phone in download mode and then load the recovery in One package field and flash.

The same backup adn restore is the nadndroid backup every one talks about. it didn't do anything because CWM recovery can't backup stock roms (system being rfs partiton). It is mostly for custom roms that are ext based. It works fine on all custom rom.
