Smile rooting my note

I'm new to this so I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I bought a note in Singapore about a year ago and for some reason it's stuck in 2.3.5. I have got q little help already but I was asking questions in the wrong place and the thread has stalled. I'm going to start over here. I know the 1st thing I need to do is root my note and someone kindly pointed me to a place where I can get this done. ( I can't seem to find that link now) I read over the info and though I won't pretend to understand it all there was some level of comprehension achieved. But.... my baseband version is n7000xxkj4 and I can't find the corresponding file on that web page.. I'm I doing some wrong or just misunderstand what I'm looking for. Can someone point me to the zip file for the n7000xxkj4 so I can put that file on my sd card and and get my note rooted. Thanks again for any help.

So you tried Kies already? You're certain it's a legit phone and not a chinese copy?

Have tried kies on several occasions and keep getting the same message "this device is not available for an upgrade." I bought the phone from a reputable business in Singapore and the phone has worked flawlessly in every respect apart from upgrading itself. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.

I found the url that listed the zip files for rooting the note. It's forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
But no where on there can I find the zip file for my n7000xxkj4. Is there another file here that I could use? Thanks again for everyone's help.

Question ?

Sorry if I posted all this in the wrong place. I must admit, these forums do confuse me a bit. Thanks Howard. I'll have a look at the link you sent me. (What is ATR?)

Thanks Howard but this link you sent me to is where I was before. But there is no file in there for my note which has the baseband version of n7000xxkj4. So my original question still stands, is there file that will work on that version or do I need to explore an alternative solution. Thanks again.

It seems that your device is a Handtec Note and as such you can't update it and you're on a Gingerbread rom. Is that correct?

Have a look at the thread below and see if it helps at all.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465962

I have a feeling this could prove quite tricky because of the Handtec Note and the xxkj4 kernel, but I am by no means an expert, so maybe someone else will know better than me.

thanks Howard. I followed your link and implemented It's suggestions and managed to change my note from kor to xeu but alas my note is still 2.3.5. Does anyone have any more ideas? I'm very disappointed with Samsung. This was quite an expensive phone and I should have got more value for my money. I think it's safe to say that this will be my last Samsung purchase. But if anyone one has any more ideas I. Would greatly appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

Did you try DBT and Kies as per post #8 on that thread?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22264231&postcount=8

I don't know anything about these Handtec phones but if it is a N7000 with just a different brand name you could try this:

Talking

I want to thank everyone for thier help because believe it or not....wait for it.....I am now running ICS on my note. A few days ago I changed my note from kor to xeu and had no success but after rereading all the stuff again I realized that I had to change it to dbt. I almost had a heart attack when the phone booted up in German but I managed to get switched it back to English, connected it to kies and voila......ICS. Yahoo! And it only took me about two months (and several fistfuls of hair) but I finally did it. Feeling quite proud of myself. Thanks again everyone (of course I couldn't have done it with out your help)
