I finally got odin to flash my phone :-D I just used the zip file for odin here on a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I have no idea why the windows xp on two different machines didn't work, but I'm good to go now.
Now I just need to block the updater from trying to install EE14 (I think I saw instructions for that here) because it seems to mess up my phone. With EE14 more times than not I can only hear ppl on my phone if it's on speaker phone. I'll give EE13 a few days to see if it still happens before I decide if I should exchange my phone for a new one.
@Shabbypenguin - Is there a way to install shabbymod 0.9 without installing the EE14 modem? If not that's cool, I can just fiddle around and make my own mod or something.
Thanks so much for all the help guys. You're all awesomes!!!
absolutely, i dont force the modem update on anyone

flash all 3 tar files at the same time, then try wifi at home, if still have problem go to starbucks and try their wifi, if you still have problem most likely it is hardware failure

Do you see your home wifi ssid on the phone? have you got encrypted or mac filtering set up?
Start with the basics does your phone pick up the wifi signal, even if it does not connect?
Okay, she got it to work on her laptop which runs windows 7 instead of xp and it fixed most of the problems she had with the phone before (lag, glitches, and none of the bottom touch screen buttons working) but the home button and the menu button still don't work. I have no idea why that would happen but other then that its working. Anybody have a guess as to whats going on now and/or how to fix it?
I had some severe issues with my Prevail - lagging, freezing, at any and all times. It would sometimes freeze when I would open an app, start or end a call, hit the lock button, plug the charger in, and on top of that, the battery would not charge when powered on. 8 hours plugged in, not charged at all, unless I powered down the phone before charging. I did this Odin recovery, using all three .tar files to completely restore it to stock, hoping this will fix it. I will post updates.
My phone was so messed up it was freezing over 5 times a day, and after using the Odin recovery with all three files, it hasn't frozen for over a day and a half. I'm going to try to put shabbymod back on it and see if it will work this time, let's hope!
I have had shabbymod on my phone that I fixed with the odin recovery for like two days now, and it hasnt frozen even once. i really owe you guys a lot, i got my phone working because of your hard work and effort. thank you so much.
Just out of curiosity, how do you use odin?? I have tried a few times and can't get it to flash anything. It kills the process in the middle of the first tar on windows 7 64 bit. I have it booted into download and did everything the instructions say, but it won't flash any of the .tar files, seperately or all at once.

You need to select the ops which comes w/ the recovery zip . Then you add the tar zips to the proper locations . I did mine all at the same time . An error msg may pop up , disregard it and hit start and just let it run . It may take up to 8 minutes to complete . Just let it run . When it's done it'll say something like PASS !!!!! then it will terminate . That's it .

I have done that. I mean the process all together ends. I let it sit for a good hour and nothing. That was with all three files in their proper place.
I NEED HELP BADDDDDD! I did the Odin unroot. Now my BASEBAND VERISION and my HARDWARE VERSION is UNKNOWN. What can I do? Plus I cant get phone out of AIRPLANE MODE.

Just to start have you tried re running ODIN being sure the ops and all 3 tars are selected and in the proper slots . If i am not mistaken that should restore everything

Yes, I've ran it about 4 times and all tars was in the correct place.

Press the power button once , a screen will pop up . Just tap airplane mode to disable .
If that doesn't work , try putting the phone back in download mode and running Odin again . I know this works because I've done it 4 times in 2 days .

It does, or you would not go from EE14 back to ED13
But if his cdma information is missing or corrupted it may be blocking the restore?
I am not sure if it is possible or not.

Can you list everything you have did to the phone.
Why did you Odin in the first place?
Did you have a custom rom on it?
Did you take the EE14 update
Did you do the EE14 manual update with the zip file.
Did you run the KMS root script after you were updated to EE14
When you Odin as soon as it says reset the phone should reboot and the process is done.
If Odin is not fixing you, you may have a hardware issue, there may also be security feutures on the CPU that can trigger hardware being disabled.
The EE14 update was designed to block root access, it seems quite a few people who were rooted and got the EE14 update start having problems with updatinmg PRL and Profile, which Odin does not fix.
Odin does not reflash all the partitions of the device, and I dont think that it can, for example the stl5 cdma partition can be read, but not written to at this point in time.
You may have somehow corrupted one of the partitions Odin does not handle, most likely stl5.
If I were you, I would Odin to Stock ED13, wipe cache, and factory reset, connect phone to a WiFi network, and take the EE14 update, then do a ##786# factory reset.
If that does not work, have Boost or Samsung replace it. at least with the Stock ED13 updated too EE14 it does not look to ovious that you rooted it

I Odin because my phone was rebooting on its own and i had to resign into google everytime it did.
I had Shabbymod 0.9
Yes I had ee14 and i did it manually
I was rooted before I updated to ee14.=
I was able to to root my phone but I must use wifi to connect to the market. My signal has an x on it, when I try to shabbymod it reboots to a black screen, i'm attempting to do a system update now. before I odin I attempted to back up cdma.rif.... I didnt delete any files. I used the Terminal Emulator. I just updated to EE14 but when I retry odin Im back at square 1. Im gonna try your trick now.
i had shsbby mod 0.9 i was rooted and i had ee14 and i reset my phone and now when i unlock it all i have is a black screen with no icon and when i plug my phone up the drivers never install successfully and i have tried rerooting and re installing the mod and a factory wipe...

When you did a factory wipe you did not go back in and enable debugging did you?
Try that see if you can connect again.
People wiping their phones before checking to see if everything flashes correctly is becoming a huge problem.. it turns off debugging so you cant communicate with the device..please check before you wipe...
and its not just that when i plug my phone up the yellow box never appers in odin even when im in download moad
did you read this whole thread?
are you sure you are in download mode, how do you know?
have you tried a different usb port?
a different usb cable?
a different computer?
