ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 for Samsung Prevail SPH-M820
:update something was wrong with the last version installing zips, i fixed it
:update, new version and I added ability to backup /restore kernel (boot)
Only Download ClockWorkMod from the links provided in my post, if you download ClockWorkMod from some other source and brick your phone, you will need to go to the place that provided those files for help.
I would also like to mention that you should not use Rom Manager on the Prevail to try and and flash CWM or kernels, Rom Manager is an excellent program. but our phone is not supported for those functions yet.
If you have problems installing this, try reading the instructions again , and if you need help describe what you have done so far and which step you are getting stuck on.
If you DO NOT already have one of my older versions of ClockWorkMod port on your Prevail you will need to install it with Odin. If you already have a previous version of my ClockWorkMod port on your Prevail use CWM update
Install CWM with Odin
1. Download and unzip CWM5027-SPH-M8200-FOR-ODIN-FIXED2A.zip
2. Download stick.zip and copy stick.zip to SD Card
3. Install the Samsung USB drivers (if you don't already have them)
4. From a powered off phone put phone into Download Mode by holding Volume Down, Camera Button, and Power button until the Yellow Downloading message appears
5. Plug phone into USB port
6. Open Odin (on your computer), you should see a yellow box with a com number
7. Select SPHM820.ops in the OPS box
8. Put a check in One Package
9. Select the CWM5027-SPH-M8200-FOR-ODIN-FIXED2A.TAR file in the One Package box
10. Click Start 11. When Odin says reset and the phone reboots Hold Vol UP, and Power button until you are in CWM DO THIS QUICKLY BEFORE PHONE BOOTS, IF PHONE BOOTS UP ALL THE WAY START BACK AT STEP 4. you do not have to wait for Odin to say pass, that does not work
12. In CWM go into install zip from sdcard (use volume buttons to scroll between options and home button to select)
13. select choose zip from sdcard
14. select stick.zip
15. select Yes - Install stick.zip
16. After it is done installing Press back button
17. Select Reboot System Now
Install CWM Update
1. Download the SPH-M820-CWM-5027-UPDT-FIXED2A.zip
2. Copy it to your SD Card
3. From a powered off phone put phone into CWM Recovery Mode by holding Volume Up, and Power button until you are in the CWM-based Recovery Menu

Now all we need are Cyanogenmod and a lag fix, and we'll be rolling with the big postpaid boys.
Thanks hroark. And shabby and all the others making this phone kick you-know-what.
Now to find out if this jewel works, as I was interested in flashing shabbykernel anyway...

Reason: megaupload must have momentarily flipped

This only puts shabbykernel in the recovery mode, not regular boot mode.
I guess I should of included it in regular boot as well, but I thought most people had it already
Download worked for me with IE and Firefox

im new to all this and learning alot from all you guys, my phone is rooted but dont have shabby yet.... but i was readin this and wanted to ask, what does this make or help ur phone do?
Awesome!!! So now I have a question, since we now have CWM how easily could CM be ported? (scale of 1-10 preferably) This will be great when I get my repaired/whatever Samsung does to my phone to fix the screen and I install ShabbyMod.

I really dont know, but I am thinking about trying it
most excellent work hroark, this weekend permitting ill try to pump out a proper release of shabbymod guys. hroark need two things from ya 1 is source available? 2 the replenish is its sister phone mount points are teh same however key controls im sure are not.
the reason why i ask for source code is so that i may be able to talk to a few people and get it upstream and official so that rom manager is supported (fully supported i mean) as it stands right now i know you guys have support with ACS updater app wont have anything in there for a bit but if the nice themers here could start making the flashable zip versions and uploading them im sure it would be filled with stuff in no time

no as 4.x.x.x is a version of cwm that koush doesnt even support yet, this is the latest version of cwm, and until koush signs off on it it wont get added to rom manager. altho we dont have to worry about it so much, as time goes on if yall get an updated cwm (no real reason to tho) a cwm flashable version can be made

I dont know if you consider this source code or not, but these are all the files I needed to make, mod, and mess with to get this working
I created this on an Android build system that I setup on Ubunto 11.4
You have to put the prevail folder in
/home/user/android/system/device/samsung/
you have to put the graphics.c in
/home/user/android/system/bootable/recovery/minui
If you are familiar with Android builds you should be able to work with this
I really am not too experienced with Andoid builds, so I am not going to be able to answer alot of questions, but I will try

This is an epic breakthrough for the prevail community.
GREAT JOB!!!
We really owe many many thanks to you hroark13 and Shabbypenguin
Really thank you guys soooooooo much. One thing I hated about creating my theme is the factory resets afterward to keep everything running smoothly but, this CWR is going to make my theming much less of a hassle.

So thank you again
hey now, ill be upfront and honest.. i had no idea that hroark was even working on this til last night, then i log on this morning to find he fixed the small issues he had and its running great
i dont mind taking credit, but only on work that ive done
interdpth3 deserves alot of thanks, without his root, i would not have been able to Odin or CWM
I probally would not have bought the phone in the first place without it being rooted
Yes I'm glad you brought that up about Interdpth3. I didn't mean to leave anyone out. I also think his work is the foundation of all the developments ( and future developments ) made up to this point. I've shown my appreciation to him at the top of my theme page as well. I haven't forgotten about him at all. I was just giving thanks based on the thread topic.

You for the CWR and Shabbypenguin for the kernal.
But yes Interdpth3 has made all of this possible
I just wanted to ackwnowledge him, in fact I edited my OP to do so
the rom manager app will work in the sense that you can now use it to launch into recovery mode and do things like backup rom but as for downloading roms, no it needs to have roms added to the list for that.
ive added roms to the list before and its quite a hassle, so now all my stuff goes on ACS' very own updater app, works a lot like rom manager in the sense that you can download roms directly to your phone as well as themes. i need to post the links on here so that themers etc can upload stuff to it and have users download the themes ota. if you want the acs updater app its in the market and when i make shabbymod 1.0 it will be on there for everyone to download and flash
I created a ClockWorkMod Recovery V4.0.1.4 for Samsung Prevail SPHM820
Recovery uses Shabby Kernel, Thank you Shabbypenguin for all the work you do Thanks also go to the makers of ClockWorkMod and a very big thanks to Interdpth for rooting the Prevail
Using Odin or ClockWorkMod can be dangerous to your phone, make sure you know what your doing, make sure you have a charged battery or plugged into power.
INSTALL
1. Download and unzip the CWM4014PREVAIL.zip file.
2. Install the Samsung USB drivers (if you dont already have them)
3. Put phone in Download Mode by holding Vol down, Camera Button, and Power button until the Yellow Downloading message appears
4. Plug phone into USB port
5. Open Odin, you should see a yellow box with a com number
6. Select SPHM820.ops in the OPS box
7. Put a check in One Package
8. Select the CWM4014PREVAIL.tar file in the One Package box
9. Click Start
When Odin says reset and the phone reboots the process is done, you do not have to wait for Odin to say pass, that does not work
All I can say is WOW! This is MAJOR! Thank you so much Hroark. This should have been part of the phone from stock! Did a backup first thing with no problems. Also cleared the Dalvik cache.
This should be a Sticky!

would this be what is needed to move whole apps to the sd card( including data?)
If you do not have a sd-ext partition it can not work, Now that this is available, I think the option to format your sd card is there I didnt look too close yet, You will be able to format the card with ext partition.
But you still will not be able to move whole apps to sd until a kernel is compiled with that support in.
Now that this is out though I suspect compiling the kernel will go much quicker.

Ok thanks
My sd card is actually already partitioned from me dorking around earlier before i read about Kernels
alas this wont effect teh kernel situation, as this was a repack as well. compiling teh zimage is where things go fine, up you flash it and try to boot it. need to look at the logcat and dmsg of the kernel for stuff like that, which i foolishly forgot to do when i was pumping out those test kernels
however i believe one of my test kernels allows for init.d support, which is more then enough for someone willing to test out darktremors apps2sd

hmm, which kernel, i have both of your test kernels, the first one that didnt work, and the second. I read up on darktremors app2sd but did not give it a try as we didnt have any way to run the flash.
I created a zip that needs to be flashed in CWM right after you Odin
I updated the OP with this information
thanks you for pointing out this issues for me
Thank you Shabby for telling me how to fix it
Just tested EE14 Fix and works great thanks guys.
Another problem i'm having is I just did a back up and as I try to restore it tells me MD5 Mismatch every time?
