a few questions about this..
would you recommend using ext2 or ext4 for this?
also redoing the phone(ODIN, shabbymod, kernals, etc.) is required? or can you use your current settings on your phone and just redo the sd such as creating back up, sd format and recreate the ext2 or ext4 partition?

at the moment im on shabbymod .9, shabby kernel (closing backdoor), hroark's ext4 kernel cwm, and my custom theme with ciq remover (not the updated ciq remover). and my ext4 is on link2sd.

if you have installed this, all non-system apps are on sd card. moving with titanuim or any other program may cause conflicts.

if you are using link2sd already, you can just unlink all apps and install dt a2sd. no need to partition or flash again, your phone is already set up to handle this. ext4 is preferred to ext2 for data protection (4 has journaling).

everyone uses different settings.. i recommend doing it fresh so u can get all the apps installed correctly Fresh & Then Dalvik Rebuild & Move Once All Is Installed 2 Get The Most Space..... But u can use your current settings.... I just do everything fresh 2 notice space differences & cuz i keep all my apps on SD... if your sd is already partitioned theres no need 2 redo it unless u had link2sd & still have apps on there (ext2/3/4)... but i still dont think re doing the whole thing is needed for the link2sd app removing...

Ext4: Has Journalizing. Ext2: Doesnt.. Didn't Notice Any Big Difference...

im using

shabbymod .9 with my added scripts, theme, etc.
hoark kernel, hroark's ext4 cache, cw,

SD Card
8GB class 10
Partition #1: fat32=7.05GB.
Partition #2: ext 2=890mb

Dont Go Past 900Mb On 2nd Partition Size... On Lower Class Memory Cards Less Then Class 10 Try Around 500-700MB... It Should Work @ 890Mb Tops... Any Class But Some Apps Can Bug Out The Higher U Go.... With Lower Class SD Cards, The More Unstable Apps Get When Increasing The SD Space Larger...

I Tested With Lower Class SD & Became Unstable While Running Apps After 900mb To 1.5GB...
Anywhere From 500mb To 700mb Should Be More Than Enough For Any Class...

App has its own radio streaming service & Videos, & also links to here & also my other sites... i add ill add more stuff to the app as i acquire.. When app gets updated it will b the same link & just replacing will add the new features....radio also works on 3g & also all the other features except the video on app... just a heads up if u use the site or test the app

it will depend alot on how many apps you will be putting on.

you could go with 256mb if you only have 1-10 apps or 384mbs if you use 11-20 or 512mb for more then that.
Thats just rough rule of thumb.

2GB card i've used 500mb or Less..

4gb Ive Used 700mb or less..

for my 8gb i used 890mb

32Gb ive used 1.5GB..

u will notice the difference with certain apps with larger sizes, so maybe thats y u didnt experience bugs with 2gb partition..

but thats basically a over kill & u wont need 2GB for apps...

Default totally Stumped

i was wondering does this app "kickout" or what may cause it to.. reason i ask if i have completely wiped the phone twice and installed this app it works fine for a couple of days then overnite it seems i get the same problem that i had before the exact same problem the dalvik jumps off sd card then..the a2sd repair doesn't work to solve the problem ...i really enjoy the app when it works and i would hope to enjoy it longer ..so any help would be appreciated i had posted terminal shots previously the information is basically the same so i am wondering does any one know of something i may need to do differently other than re install linkd2sd ..

Thanks,

Working perfectly for the past 3 days... I decided to give this a try after a unexpected bricking.... Much better than link2sd... with link2sd i would still run out of space...

What do i format my sd card too?

If i format my sd card and reinstall it do i have to redo my entire phone? will i get a butt ton of FC?

no just your sd card... u dont need 2 redo entire phone.. u partition your sd into 2 partitions fat32 and ext/2/3/4.. both primary.. everyone uses different ext for 2nd partition but u can use any... im on ext2

then u can install the .zip thru cwm following the instructions on da 1st thread....

has any of u guys using this ever tried lowering the VM heap lower than 32m?

(32m, 24m, 16m, 12m)

my tests...
I found out that using 12M can cause crashes everywhere.. can cause bootloop also.. dont recommend trying that one.. had 2 odin...

moved it to 16m had same results.. it didnt load..... odin...

i used 24m... apps loads are a lil faster & so do images on the browser & market.. but haven't tested on larger apps..

Stock is 24m, I find that 32m speeds things up slightly.

You guys are just too smart for my britches.. lol I am still boggled by this app.. and the partitions of the SD.. Its like looking at your untied shoe string, you just think...Do I really need to tie it? haha

I understand the partition, somewhat, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it ext4. I can make a ext2? and ext3? I don't use a lot of unnecessary apps, for me anyways, like games, but I do have a lot of word documents for school and work. I am very content with just having the ext2..But I wanna know how I make a damn ext4! lol I hate it sometimes when I have to be so persistent with my lack of knowledge...and/or pride..

So I just left Wally-world, decided to treat me-self to a new 8gb SD along with my other SDs I have (Both are 2gb..) Alrighty! now to install AS2D!

That's just an "after a few beers rant" and icebreaker to most of ya'll I haven't talked to. You guys are awesome. Appreciate everything!

Okay having problems, hope someone can help. Here is all of the info I have:

Rom: Shabbymod 0.9
Kernel: Hroarkernal(from Odin)
Theme: Simple Blue 4.0(noCIQ)
SD Card: Idk the class but it is an 8g Sandisk
Partitons: 7g primary FAT32 for data, 1g EXT2 for Apps

I manually mounted System and Data in CWM before install just in case.

The install goes fine, but when I load up I don't see a2sdgui. I used Terminal Emulator and did a2sd check and attached the log file so you can see what it is showing.

I found the script in system/bin(I think). When I goto Settings > Applications > On SD Card it shows nothing(Though I don't know if they should show there or not.

I manually downloaded a2sdgui and it loads but only shows a black screen.

I have nothing else to try so I figured I would come and ask, any help/suggestions?

*EDIT* Made log easier to read.(Though there are still some clumps of text that go off the page... Sorry >.>

On SD Your Not Going To C Anything There... u will c it here: /system/sd

From What U Said About GUI & Your Log. Looks Like Your Flash Didn't Fully Go Thru... gui shouldve gotten pushed with the a2sd...

Could also mean your SD Isn't Partitioned Correctly For EXT2... Can U Mount SDEXT in CWM? If U Get A Error Mounting Its Not Partitioned Correctly...

Your Log Reading Everything Is Getting Permission Denied... It Is Also Not Mounting Your SD. Try Re-Flashing It....

Quote:
$ export PATH=/data/local/bin:$PATH
$ a2sd check
[ ] Apps2SD is launching...
[ ] Mount Point = /system/sd
tee: /data/dta2sd.log: Permission denied

Permission denied
Your partition may be using an EXT4 partition

$
im just pointing out those 2 points.. didnt wanna post the whole code..

Default a2sd no go

I partitioned stock sd with easus and got 500md on "EXT3" and it made it primary like the fat32. then flashed a2sd before flash i mount sys and data. it loaded fine. when i rebooted i got no gui so i looked for it in system/sd and it had one listing.
Should i go back to easus and delete ext 3....and if i do how can i get easeus to set an ext 2 or 4????
Thanks
Ric

I am not a whole lot of help, nut I have been up the whole dang night trying to figure out the same thing. To make a EXT2 on Easeus is quite simple..After doing it 5 times lol When you create a partition the options to chose in the drop/select like NTFS, FAT23..etc. It gives a choice of which...e.g the EXT2..The Easeus software doesn't provide support for EXT4

To make the EXT4 I used the software in this link. It is a free home edition, and is very similar to Easeus..

MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

Hope this helps, Or maybe someone else will post before you read this. lol Pretty sure I am right on my information..

back up your sd cards and partition them with cwm. boot into cwm>advanced>partition sd card. make your ext as large or small as you like and 0 swap size.
then in "mounts and storage" mount sd-ext and partition it. you now have a usable ext4 partition.

correction: should say mount sd-ext and then format sd-ext

Tried alot of stuff in the past few days with this and im tired of screwing my phone and sd up.
So,I aint gonna sweat it!

seems to be some trouble of late.

i've had problems when moving dalvik. maybe that's why some are experiencing failure. i keep it on internal. still ~70MB free. phone runs fine. some have moved it no problem but mileage varies. i *think* it may be due to sd speed. not just card class but actual r/w speeds.

easeus partition manager will make an ext2 partition and cwm makes a proper ext4 partition. i haven't seen anyone use a windows program to make an ext4 partition. i'm not saying there isn't one out there that can do it. i just don't recall seeing it done yet.

ext4 is only supported if you have hroarkernel.
ext2 is used if you are using stock kernel or shabbykernel.
sd card shoudl be fat32 primary/ext primary. no swap partition.

ext3 is NOT supported by any kernel. an ext3 partition will probably mount as ext2 but that's not reliable or advised.

I followed this like a hawk! Still no luck, it just creates an EXT3. Is it necessary to have Hroark's kernel to make the Ext4 in CWR?( << More than likely it probably isn't, but I do not know what else to ask.. ) When I try to mount it gives "Error mounting /sd-ext..Any more suggestions? ...Ext4 is the future..I'd like to be there toooo..

Dont know dude?
I went in to look for evidence of apps2sd and the only thing in system/sd is placeholder.......Sorry!?!
I guess that's evidence of apps2sd?
But, I don't understand why is there so much hassle with this app to install!?!
I would think that the designing needs to be little more streamline in this rom going in there and being able to create the partition it self???(not trying to bust on anybodies work, seriously)
I dont know,Im not a dev!
Thanks

The best way to do this is to use odin and hroarks ee14 with cwm recovery and hroark1.2 kernel
then go into cwm recovery and partition the sd card, at that point it will create a ext4 partition then go into mount and mount /system and /data

Then go to flash zip and flash the a2sd that is in the first post. That SHOULD take care of the problems. Just remember to back up your sd card to your computer as it will get wiped.

dapps2sd 7 53 beta 04?
Im running hroark 1.2 ker and cwm ee14
I believe inigo gave me the same inst. a little further down with making part #4 and then the mounting, then the flashing but, still no evidance of the app?!
what does it look like?
Where am I to find it?
Thanks

if you installed this after a fresh odin or data wipe, you have no user apps in /data partition and/or apps are still on internal. the placeholder is the only thing than CAN show up. the app (a2sdGUI) can be downloaded from the market for free if it doesn't get installed by the zip but this modification will work without the GUI installed. you can control it through terminal. the top of the OP has a link to the darktremor page with much more detailed instructions and commands. the fact that you have system/sd available means this installed the scripts and they are running.

you're info says you're using shabbykernel rc1. if that's the case you do need to use an ext2 partition. shabbykernel does not support ext4.

ah! yup.

you need my version from the first post of this thread.

the betas don't work properly and i haven't had time to make them work. i should not have assumed you downloaded the mod from here. my tip-off should have been the gui app. let us know when it's installed.
