you have no sd-ext partition, thats probably why you got those low memory messages before too.

if your card was partitioned it would show up as:

Quote:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /data/app type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,data =ordered,noauto_da_alloc)
if you had 2 partitions there would be a mmcblk0p3 showing up too.

I never erased but was getting some random reboots from another rom prior. Just checked sd with partition master and sure enough ext partition was corrupted.

Ok so, my gps is acting weird. It wont go on using Google
Maps, it says network failure or something. Says it needs a network connection.
3g is on., using rainy days app, it will use my 3g to locate me

I don't see the gps icon up top, sometimes, out of the blue it goes on and disappears

So, i was wondering, what files, folders are needed to properly
Flash the gps..I'd rather not reinstall 3.6, only 3.7
I would obviously grab the necessary files, folders from friend
Phone.

didn't know you were checking the internal data box???? you have the 1 gig memory and if ssm is checked, don't worry about it as long as it is working.

I installed 3.6 and tried to use SSM to partition my SD card. Everything went well until I changed the Kouma settings to Data. After the reboot, everything slowed to a crawl and I got multiple force closes. Any input? This is the second time I've had this happen when trying to choose data.

sorry for late reply..

But, yes i gave them permission, and in settings, it shows me signed in. if i use wifi or 3g it will find my location, but when i turn on GPS, the icon doesnt animate, in the task bar.

So i wanted to try and extract any/all the files/folders associated with the GPS, obviously from my friends phone that has 3.6.

then Flash it back to the phone.

Is it possible...any side affects.

i could re-flash 3.6, then re-partition it again, and advance restore Data/sd-ext....but i dont want to ruin a good thing..even though the gps is not working right.

I know its the GPS, ive reinstalled google maps, several times, tried that GPS test app thing...wouldnt budge.

but sometimes...at random, for the app, Rainy Days when i click show my location, i will actually see the gps icon animate in taskbar...then lock on.

i had the same issue, its the koumamod.apk, its the one that was installed with 3.6, You want to download/install the koumamod.apk 1.5 version or click the link here to visit the thread, once installed, it will save the settings and wont change back, i had the same issue for weeks, kept restoring...FC like a blind monkey trying to spank himself. But after i installed it, now its smooth, the mod that is. that and i also updated the XPERIA HOME Launcher.

Default USB data transfer

I mentioned the other day that I have not been able to use USB to transfer files to/from my sdcard since formatting it for SSM. I have tried everything. I tried it on the same computer that i used to flash with odin...and then installed the usb drivers on my laptop and tried it there with the same result. It shows up as (D Removable Disk. However when i try to explore the disk it tells me "Please insert a disk into drive D:." Again...this worked before the format to SSM. This is not really an issue for me because i use Android WIFI manager sync....and odin still recognizes the phone...the only reason i mentioned it was because someone(don't remember who) said that SSM had nothing to do with my computer not recognizing it. So, it's either the SSM or CTmod itself...but i'm betting on SSM....and possibly some issue with the type of formatting on the card not being readable by my PC(running windows xp sp3).

....i just flashed this one....it seems to Force CLose on force choke...any ideas? details said android.forcechoke.empire.com has force closed. then i see a faint ghostly like image of obi-wan on the screen...but i try to press power and screenshot it...but im too late.

anyway, the teleporation works good..though i keep getting "recalibrating" then id see the water and then be back were i started...maybe its me.

i had the same issue...
i had installed, the samsung drivers package, and then the KIES program...
somewhere it had a corruption in them...dont know how.

so i started fresh....
i uninstalled KIES and Samsung Drivers Package.
after i uninstalled it, i searched for anything KIES/SAMSUNG DRIVERS
both in root and registry, i deleted what i foundd **CAUTION CHECK BEFORE YOU DELETE ANYTHING TO MAKE SURE THE STUFF YOUR DELETING ISNT SHARED OR A SYSTEM FILE***
unpplugged the usb cable and phone.from the computer

then i rebooted...
waited for windows to finish loading everything....
then i plugged in the usb cable..waited 30seconds
then i plugged in the other end to the phone

windows saw it, installed the drivers, even downloaded them.

it was done and i was back to transferring and using it again.

Default Compass not working

I installed CTMod 3.6 on a new Prevail and found that the compass was not working. I noticed some behavior that hadn't been mentioned before in the other discussions in this thread about the compass problems. Maybe it will be of some help debugging the problem. All this info is from tests from the Z-DeviceTest app.

The compass needle in the compass test acted whacky, often pointing in the opposite direction of north and changed direction wildly with small changes to the phones orientation (in any axis). There was one particular phone orientation where if it was just right the needle would spin around at high speed when not moving the phone at all (didn't matter what horizontal direction the phone was pointing, just the orientation relative to gravity). But I noticed that at all times, all 3 magnetic field values were steady in all 3 axis. Changing the phone orientation would result in a smooth change in the magnetic field values. So where was this wild change in the needle direction coming from?

The app also has tests for these other sensors: accelerometers, gravity, linear acceleration, and rotation vector. For the first three sensors, the values behaved normally, never jumping around when moving the phone around, but always smoothly changing value. The rotation vector test was different. The rotation vector values for all three axis did jump around, particularly at that specific orientation I mention above.

Could both the compass problem and the rotation vector problem be caused by the same bug?

I used the exact install procedure described in the "[GUIDE][CTmod] Rooting the Prevail for Dummies (written by a dummy)" thread. I also did another install using the instructions in the first post of this thread, the only difference being the setting of the "Settings-> CTMod-> Koumakernel-> None|Data|SSm" option. Both installs had the same compass behavior. Not GPS though. GPS did not work for the "Dummies" install (Settings-> CTMod-> Koumakernel set to Data) but did work installing using bloodawn's instructions (Settings-> CTMod-> Koumakernel left unchanged).

BTW - Loved CTMod! Hated to have to revert to the stock image but needed the compass working for map apps, etc.

if you downloaded it, just install it.

i know certain companies have contracts to use YAHOO
instead of Google..thats why its not on the market..stupid red tape.
but you can still download it off appbrain or unlocked market

what seems to be the issue? any Forceclose?
Check the notification area for "permission" to use it for certain reasons..

also, did you check this thread out?
google talk authentication failed

I have flashed both the CM9 and CTMOD roms. I have 2 sandisk sdcards 8gb and 2gb. The 8gb was working in a tablet now no longer does after using in the phone with CM9. With help in the Darktremor A2SD thread I got the 2gb working as sd-ext. I had planned on putting the CTMOD on anyway. As I was loading all files needed onto my card via cable it stopped being recognized by the laptop. The laptop beeps a connection beep but no drive appears in explorer anymore. I assumed the laptop driver was damaged and uninstalled and reinstalled but after that it still is not recognized. Took the phone to my tower and it does not recognize it. I used ODIN to get to ED13 stock because Odin sees the phone thank goodness for Odin. THe phone was once again seen by the laptop with no cable change or port change. I then flashed CTMOD. I was using the cable once again to move some apk files and other things. Again, the phone is no longer recognized. The only thing in common is sd-ext on the card from 2 diff roms.

Oh btw, I lost the ability to connect to anything web related as well. I did flash the CTMOD over top of the install again but card still not recognized by laptop and still no connection to web.

Going to order a new sd class 10 card. But the 8gb will no longer work in the phone. I had music on it and it worked but once I used and an extended card it no longer works even after wiping with zeroes.

Any one have any troubleshooting tips or things I can try. It was a real pain starting from the stock ED13 to get back to this point only to have the same thing happen in a different rom.

Thanks for any ideas you come up with. I have flashed tablets and have never had a problem. Phone is little more involved for obvious reasons so I can very possibly be missing something

I could not find a gtalk.apk that worked, I would get an error when I try to run Talk. The error says "The application Talk (process com.google.android.talk) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I will look on appbrain or unlocked market, thanks.

Just, copy it to root/system/app/
give the folder write permission. (depending what app you use)
Long press the .apk, choose permission,.make the permissions the
same as the other.apk apps on there.

Reboot.
Now it's installed.

If it was the cable or drivers I don't think it would let me use Odin to restore to perfect working order. And then let me copy CTMOD back to the phone and flash it again.
I think this is a phone or rom issue since once I Odin back to stock and start over it is fine until I re-flash then it fails. I reinstalled the drivers with no difference and tried on my desktop and it will not recognize on either once it fails. I used the phone all day yesterday without a problem on CM9 other than 1 text that went out full of garbage my wife said. I blamed that on the CM9 Alpha.

Thanks for your input, hopefully someone will come up with something else to try.
Thanks again

Anyone else on data mode with a partitioned sdcard, that can't
Get the gps to work, besides that other guy.

Problem: GPS on data mode with partitioned card
Fails to turn on or run , stating network failure. unable to get
location.

what ever app i use, they all say unable to locate, connect to gps.
Ive accepted all permissions.
The GPS data must get moved some where when you partitioned
And on data mode.

I've tried everything. Gps is broken on this version with a partitioned data mode

Well this is quite odd! (Or at least I think so, hence why I posted it here. I thought CTMod wouldn't get OVA updates)
I'm on CT Mod 3.5 still and suddenly a few minutes ago I got an OVA update. O_O
The file name is 0a92569ef3d4.update_SPH_M820_FA19_to_FE16.zip (7.4 MB)
Looks like they finally released a patch to FA19.
I of course haven't run the update since I'm not using stock anyways, but I saved it if anyone wants the file.

The description provided in system updates is as follows:
This software update includes fixes for your Samsung Prevail. Please ensure your battery is fully charged before continuing. This update requires a reboot and your device will be unavailable during this time.

The Samsung site does not yet list this update, btw if none of you knew they actually had a list of the updates, it's here:

Default Speech to text

I am wanting speech to text, but have seen several replies with different answers.

Following are recommendations that I have seen:
voicesearch.apk
voicedialer.apk
soundrecorder.apk

Do I need to install all of these? I didn't even see voicesearch.apk as one of the items removed. Will THIS install what I want?

The link you provided is for voice search, yes.
the other items may be integrated, I'm not 100% sure

first off, make sure you have speech data installed.
Press MENU, choose settings, then choose VOICE INPUT & OUTPUT

then choose, TEXT TO SPEECH Settings.

Now...

look at "Install Voice Data" if its GREYED out, then youve installed it.
if its WHITE, click on it, and google Play will open on a app called,
" Speech Sythesis" click on install it
that will install PICO a speech sythesis app.

you can choose to download SVOX another one...which i use

once downloaded...

Go back to voice input & output

Default Engine: Choose PICO(default) or SVOX (if you downloaded it)

then you can play around the respective settings of each, speed rate,accuracy..etc

Now that you have voice data installed, you can choose which APP to speak into,

VoiceSearch is Androids Default one, like iPHONES voice search, but MUCH faster.

after you have voice data installed, use your message tool, in the type field, on the keyboard, you should have a Microphone like icon, or if you use swype it will appear as a flame icon

do this and you can inistall ANY app that uses speech to text, to record, write a message, biography...etc
