I decided that due to KK2.0's release and the fact that it does not play nice with RFS filesystems anymore (who uses them anyways? oh yeah, if you're checking this out, then probably you ) that we needed a Stock/Base rom that runs on EXT4.
So, with a good bit of help from The Skater187 who deodexed the original rooted stock ODIN image I made, and a few other small tweaks, I present the Half Ass Rom!
It's stock with all the stocky goodness, minus some bloat to make it fit into ext4.
It's Rooted!
It's DeOdexed.
It comes with KoumaKernel 2.5
It will work on EJ06 or higher radio basebands
It will report as FE16 so you won't get update reminders until the next update.
It has more stock stuff than before.
*It does not update your baseband, you must use Odin to switch basebands
New version 2.0. Based on the FE16 update.
I redid this myself from the ground up. Thanks go to Skater187 for the time he put in on stocking up his ROM as an inspiration and as a base for 1.0, but I needed to learn to a do a bunch of this stuff
Items removed are:
Code:
Gmail (available on the market as a user app)
Maps (available on the market as a user app)
Protips (come on now, we're all pros here)
Street View (available on the market as a user app, add on for Maps)
YouTube (available on the market as a user app)
1.0: Initial Release
1.1: Updated kernel and Adreno drivers <Taken down due to broken driver>
2.0: Redone from FE16 update. Put more stock apps in
2.1: Updated to FF19

I don't believe TeleNav can be downloaded through Market. The ones on Market are only available to their respective carriers and Boost Mobile is not one of them.

I only did a quick market search. I knew there was a method posted for installing apps that are listed as "unsupported" so I just left it at that. Worst case, I go back and say it's not available in the market
Giving it a test run right now. Haven't used stock since I got the phone about 7 months ago, so I'm interested to see what it's like for a bit. Also a good time to check out your new KK2.0, thanks Kouma.

No problem. I don't think this will see much use. It's not really the intent.
There is the occasional user that just wants stock with a few tweaks, but this was meant to be a piece for people to start from. Where the hard stuff is yet to be done, but the annoying stuff has already been taken care of
Actually since I've installed this rom it's getting me interested in seeing what I can do with a stock rom and how I can mod it and learn to work at making something out of it. I know I've seen topics around here in the past about how to get started making roms etc... but I can't seem to find anything at the moment. Any idea where these topics have gone? Maybe you could point me in the right direction?

Pretty satisfied with this ROM, in my opinion it reads the sd card quite well.. Also I was able to put the init.d folder from CTMod 3.2 and even added 66citbun and it surprisingly worked, I checked the sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb... It read 128 before hand and after I put the init.d folder in and set the permissions, the read_ahead_kb file said 2048 and it worked like a charm!
Update: Telenav Inc, makers of the telenav app have out "Your Navigator Deluxe" which is compatible with the Prevail. Looks like the same thing
It looks to be only for US Cellular customers, but for whatever reason, seems to work fine for most carriers.
Tested and compared it. It actually has a few more features than the stock TeleNav app that came with our Prevails from Boost Mobile. So I agree with you, it is an equal/better replacement for the stock app.
Great job in releasing another ROM and including your latest Kernel within it.
I just have a quick question, my 16 gb MicroSD card is partitioned with a second partition for sd-ext, if I install this rom which has KK2.0 in it will it use the MicroSD for A2SD??

yup, and it will format the ext partition during the install process, so save anything you want out of there before installing

I know this is a stupid question... so please forgive me.
When I install this ROM, will it format and partition my microSD card automatically to EXT4? Ive been modding and flashing since the V3 Razr Monsterpacks (yeah, im old). The only thing I cant wrap my brain around is the EXT4 stuff...

Let the beatings begin... take it easy on me
It will format existing partitions, but not create new ones.
It can't format the vfat partition, if it did, that would be bad

I am using the HalfAssRom (FA19 radio) with KK2.2 (with the /data option enabled) and the GPS is not working. The GPS works in the following scenarios:
1) Rooted CWM FA19 with no KK
2) HalfAssRom with default settings for KK2.0
3) HalfAssRom with default settings for KK2.2 (essentially not enabled)
As soon as I uncomment the line to enable the mounting of /data to the sd-ext, the GPS stops working (that is after factory reset and reboot of course)
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Haris
EDIT: I am not sure what is the best thread for this (KK, this, or the GPS not working thread). Let me know if I need to repost.

The problem is with KoumaKernel.
try this:
open your favorite terminal app and run:
mkdir /data/gps
chmod 770 /data/gps
chown 1021:1000 /data/gps

Thanks. I tried it but still no gps. Good to know that you are on it though.
EDIT: I tried the fix a couple more times just to be sure (I deleted the /data/gps folder first) but no luck. Also, I had to start with "su" in my terminal app, otherwise, it wouldn't let me create the folder.

Took 1.1 down. the Adreno drivers just don't work on Gingerbread.
Not much of a point in having a broken rom and a patch that makes it just the same as 1.0 with an updated kernel

Ok, I'm a bit confused on how to install this ROM? I have Odin and CWM installed. I'm not sure what method I should use to install this. Do I need to go into recovery mode to do it, or is there something I'm missing? I'd like to install this, and then the KoumaKernel. Kouma said in another thread that I should install this then the Kernel. I just can't find directions on how to do so.
Sorry for the noob question, but we all have to start somewhere.

I think I figured it out. I copied the HalfAssRom.zip to the SD card and entered CWM and selected install from SD card and then selected the zip. It seems to have done the trick. I don't know why I couldn't find that info elsewhere. Oh well.

Probably because I forgot to put installation instructions up.
Brain fart on my part. I forgot that not everyone has been around long enough to use CWM instinctively to install ROMs

Couple noon questions for ya.
1. Does this ROM have hidden menu support
2. Will I still be able to use a portion of my sdcard as internal memory like I'm currently using in ctmod?
I'm looking for something simple with stock features that I can mod and play with a bit but would like to be able to expand the memory and add init.d support and swap prls at will.

i believe the answer to everything is yes. I am unsure of the hidden menu, but i believe it's available.
And it's kouma kennel compatible, so all the EXTra storage is available as well as swap and init.d support.
stock with all the kouma goodness

If you want the newest kk then i think yes, you need to install the kernel again. Not sure if he has updated the link in the op or not, so i would just go ahead do it, can't hurt anything...

will I have to reinstall the kernel if I flash this over ctmod or will it stay? Or is it in this ROM?
Any clarification if hidden menu is in this ROM?
Hidden menu is in this rom,
Both use KoumaKernel, but this uses an older version, and it will overwrite CTMod's copy. So if you're planning to stay a while, you might want to update the kernel after installing, and probably add koumamod.apk

and if you using apk 1.2 from OP of kernel thread that got fc bug.

that 1.3
just make sure you choose a priority value.fixed fc bug but if value left blank it do nothing don't swapon or call at boot. do both with value though
