Default [ROMS] Any ICS / Android 4.0.X ROMS for the PREVAIL?

Hello Guys,

I just rooted my Samsung Galaxy Prevail and want to customize it a little

I really like the Ice Cream Sandwich firmware stuff. Im wondering if anybody knows of any ICS roms for the prevail. If so, please link me to them.

A more realistic question is when/if the Prevail can be upgraded to 2.3.7. No way the Prevail can handle ICS as it likely doesn't have enough internal storage just to store the OS much less run it. :P

The prevail absolutely can handle ICS. It actually has both enough RAM and CPU power to handle it. You guys would just have to restructure the phone's internal partitions to have enough space for it like we did on the Epic 4g for cm7 and our now fully functional cm9. In our case we also gained a lot more space available for user apps and Yaffs2 is a much better file system.

Check out the CM9 alpha thread. Looks promising. CM9 is pretty much the custom mod equivalent to stock ICS right? If so, it will be pretty kick ass once/If CM9 is stable enough for standard use.

Right now CM9 isn't stable enough for general use and is currently best used for development and testing purposes.

I am not really interested enough in CM7 to justify having to reinstall all my apps again just to upgrade to it. But when/if CM9 gets fixed up and finalized for the Prevail, I will really consider switching to it.

hhh

Reading and researching for weeks. Would seem the Prevail is too limited for any developer to work up ICS or ROM application. Was going to purchase for my daughter, root, and setup hotspot for daughter. Memory insufficient to run OS and Apps she uses. Can run CyanogenMod but that not too impressive. I will stick with my Nexus. Nexus runs great on ICS ver 4.0.5 32Gb rooted, WIFI, without any limitations thus far.

I would beg to differ...CM9 Alpha in progress

Was going to purchase for my daughter, root, and setup hotspot for daughter. Memory insufficient to run OS and Apps she uses.

Fully functional Odin recovery, with rooted images.
Koumakernel, with fully integrated apps to SD-ext support. We make our own memory

Can run CyanogenMod but that not too impressive. I will stick with my Nexus. Nexus runs great on ICS ver 4.0.5 32Gb rooted, WIFI, without any limitations thus far.

I would also stick with the phone that cost $450 more than the prevail, if i had one.
Comparing a Prevail and a Nexus (or pretty much any contract phone released recently) is like comparing economy cars to italian supercars. Yeah, they're both automobiles, but they're made for two separate markets. But for the age and the amount of money you pay for a prevail, you have a TON of modding options. I've messed with more expensive prepaid androids that didn't run half as well as mine. I'll stick with my little hotrod. At least if I crash it into a tree, I can afford to go buy another one

Well said! The analegy to Italian sports cars is appropriate, its a whole lot easier to add a turbocharger to a Honda than trying to drag an extra 100hp out of a stock twin Turbo v12

Default ics on prevail

ICS has already made it to the prevail. I have it installed on my phone. it's good but has some bugs. The dev tells you not to flash it unless you are an advanced user. After using it I can see why. No major critical issues but small bugs here and there would drive nontechie ppl crazy, but if u are like me and love tweaking your phone give it a shot. Link below

The dev to that CM9 ROM had a moderator lock his thread. No point in linking it since it no longer contains a download link, nor is it open for feedback.

I have no idea why they locked the thread, but it was up and running. I know, I downloaded it. Anyone know why they would do that?

Was going to purchase for my daughter, root, and setup hotspot for daughter. Memory insufficient to run OS and Apps she uses. Can run CyanogenMod but that not too impressive. I will stick with my Nexus. Nexus runs great on ICS ver 4.0.5 32Gb rooted, WIFI, without any limitations thus far.
When the correct ROM , kernel and apps are used, this little phone can turn in to a beast. There are no other phones in its price range that can compare to it. Two more payments and I'll be at $35 a month. What are you paying?
Oh, my wifi works just fine too.

i am currently still working on cm9...i have not given up on it just yet...i will release something els soon..same rom some more changes..a lil different then before..more barebones..lightweight..way more stable..also i have been making some changes while on the phone..will release a nandroid to restore for some brave testers..cm9 has been a real learning curve for me as i am not a developer..somethings i have really struggled with..i am doing all the changes from windows..eventhough i have ubuntu it is not up and running...And just incase anyone is wondering why i locked my op..it was because i could not offer a ton of support for ppl who would not take the time to read my op and understand that for now you MUST have an sdext to run this rom..untill a more experienced developer like kato or anyothers makes a better version/kang of Hroarks original..I do HVAC for a living and work late hours and do not have time to fully support a rom that new ppl refuse to read and understand before flashing..for the few ppl that posted problems in the op there were 500 more pming me for support..Most who never posted in the thread for support at all..next time the support i offer will be limited mostly because i deal with the same problems as other ppl..i will make that very clear in the op when i feel the time is right
