Default TWRP v2.2.2.1 Recovery for Prevail by Hroark13

Hroark13 now of XDA has created a port of Team Win Recovery Project v.2.2.2.1 for the Samsung Galaxy Prevail.

Team Win Recovery Project
v2.2.2.1
By Hroark13

What is TWRP?
Its a touch screen recovery. That is theme-able.
So what does this mean? No more volume rocker or power buttons, nor any button combination to select what you are trying to do. Now its all touch, the way a recovery should be!
Other features:
The ability to flash multiple zips at the same time
Lock screen
Clock

I'm going to leave this link as a reference. For now the prevail version has been pulled because it caused many issues.
Link it is the 2nd post:
TWRP 2.2.2.1 for ZTE Warp and Samsung Prevail- xda-developers

All Credits go to Hroark13 and Team Win. I am just providing the link and some details.

If you'd like to thank Hroark13 please do so on xda.

If you are planning on adding this to your rom, please make sure you credit both Hroark and Team Win. And preferably link to his page.

Can you just give us a few detailed install instructions ??

I mean, whats the difference, advantage and/or disadvantage of using either the .tar and flash with Odin or do the .ZIP install from CWM ?

When exactly does the stick needs to be flashed ? Still in CWM after the install or with the "Install" button on TWRP ?

Also, when installing TWRP, does a custom ROM, like CTMod3.68 needs to be re-installed ?

Would be great to get detailed instructions, even if some of it is obvious. Just want to make sure not to screw anything up.

Thanks..... And please give MANY THANKS to Hroark ( already thanked him on xda ! )

It's just different options to get it installed man, and no you don't need to reinstall your rom, the only thing different is that you need to make a backup with TWRP because CWM backups are NOT compatible...

Now another interesting point would be if the " Odin Image File Creator " from Koumajutsu is still working, since I believe it originally boots into CWM Recovery......

Would be great to know.............

Ok, here are the specifics, choose your method of installation, once installed it's completely touch screen based operation, rom zips are completely compatible, I've flashed a few already, no problems at all, the only thing you need to be concerned with is that you MUST make a backup with TWRP, CWM backups are NOT compatible, TWRP creates the backup in a totally different format: .win extension, so please save yourself a LOT of headache and possible bricking of your phone and create your backup of current rom in TWRP and everyone including yourself will be HAPPY!!!

If you really want them, get the cwm.zip from the cwm thread.

Flash cwm, restore backup, flash twrp, create backup, replace old backup with new one...

Rinse and repeat as necessary...

I also just got a reply from Hroark regarding the " Odin Image File Creator " !!!

Hroark said : "should work, Kouma's script uses adb, which works in TWRP too"

Well, so far everything went great. No problems at all. Flashed the .zip via CWM, rebooted back into the new recovery and installed the stick.zip........ No problems at all.......... Still download mode, etc. and all the other good stuff........ nothing changed and I think, even the backup went faster........

The only "con" I see ( maybe just me ) : It has a lot of options and settings, a bunch of it and I don't understand all of them.... I wrote the "TEamWin" and ask for manual or explanation, but so far I haven't heard back.........

Did you really have to flash the stick zip? In the xda thread I thought it said if you were using from stock?

Shouldn't do anything bad, They said it overwrites the script to make it stick.

Well, so far it sticks....... Just would like to know a litte more about the options....... But it seems to run good !! Now the last thing I will try to do is to make a successful " Odin Image File Creator " backup. Hroark as well as Kouma told me there should not be a problem......

PS: Odin Image File Creator work as well ! No problems !!!

The stick.zip removes a file in the stock rom that reflashes the stock recovery when you reboot...

I'm trying to figure out how the terminal emulator part works, seems like it doesn't show all the directories.

Same with the file browser feature

From what I can tell, It hasn't affected anything other than my recovery partition which is exactly what I expected. For those of you still not sure what it is etc... It's basically a touch a touch version of cwm but backups use a different file extension and if you look around you'll find you can use a low level terminal as well.

Tips for using it:

If you don't know what something does, ask and don't use it until you get an answer (obviously - pretty much the same idea as CWM except most of the questions have been asked about CWM)

Replace your CWM backups immediately because this recovery can NOT use them. (re-iterating this just because it can be said 500 ties and someone will still say, "Why don't my CWM backups work?")

If you use the terminal (even a terminal emulator on the actual rom) don't go screwing with commands you don't know how to use. I.E. ("I heard about this rm -rf command, maybe I'll try it out", that shi* is gonna bite you in the ass)

Basically common sense.

I haven't had a chance to try out the odin image creator because my usb cable is currently in a state of disrepair though theoretically as was said by both Kouma and Hroark there's no reason it shouldn't work considering it reboots into the recovery partition to have full ADB access. I don't think what recovery you use should effect it considering the script isn't using any commands directly tied to CWM.

My personal testing has shown my backups seemed to take LONGER than with CWM but not by much, I'm sure it's because I have a prevail from way back when it was first release and this little thing has seen better days.

Another note, all of my testing has been done on a pretty much clean install of CTMod 3.68 and I do have a sd-ext partition that's in use and I did back that up as well, I named the backup AND enabled compression so all or some of those factors may have played a role in my backup time (I leaning mostly toward the compression slowing it down.)

Overall this is great and give Hroark my thanks as I don't have an account at XDA and don't have time to go make one now (I will later though.)

I'm sure I don't need to ask you this but did you mount /system and /data in the mounts section?

On a side note, did anyone else read this as TW(e)RP Recovery?

I thought it felt like the backup is quicker than n CWM, but I have NOT done compression and as you said, compression might take slightly longer.

One question, what have you done or better, which button did you press after entering the name for the backup ??? I entered a name like two or three times, but it didn't stick..... Thx

And YES, see my post above, the Odin Image File Creator" works just fine !

I hit the enter key on the keyboard.

To me, considering there was no done key or anything it seemed the only logical choice lol.

Also, I was just reiterating that there should be no reason the image creator wouldn't work fine. I was just addressing the major concerns being posted in the thread in an all together sort of informational post.

Lol no problems... everyone makes simple mistakes... I was thinking the same thing too but then I remembered that I typically I had to mount the partitions so I checked and yep.

Anyway, glad we solved that.

Hroak lives on...Eons ago I always hoped the Prevail would get this recovery. Lo and Behold Hroak ports it to the prevail and the warp. To think I was actually debating on switching to the Sequent. **** la Prevail.

Howdy,

was wondering if anyone played around with the themes of TWRP !! I downloaded a "blue-button" theme, as suggested with the resolution 480x800 ( not sure why that size ), made a folder on the SD-CARD under TWRP called \theme and put the files in and booted in recovery, but it seems like the theme does not get applied.

Any suggestions ? Did I overlook something here ???

Thx

Your screen resolution isn't 480x800

I know that, but this was the suggested "Theme-Size" on the xda thread !!

Not sure where to find the correct themes and how to exactly install them. Did a lot of "googling", but couldn't come up with a solution for it.

Hi LV,

yes, made the folder, tried lower and upper case as well as theme and themes ! I know our screen is 320x480, but all I could read at the xda thread was that people with similar pones use 480x800....... Believe me, I searched around and around..... couldn't find anything..... I might just post and ask on xda in the thread to get an clear answer on this !

Nobody in this section owns the TU. I know two people that own one, but I'm neither smart enough, nor around the device long enough to even attempt porting it. Hroark explained what he needed to add to the kernel to get it to work. Can you guys even compile a kernel from source yet?
Talk to your devs, i bet one of them can do it.

Did you say "files" in the theme folder? There should only be one file, a "ui.zip", I've looked though & haven't found a theme for the prevails screen resolution, 480x800 displays wrong and you can't use it, works great on my warp but jacked up on my fiances prevail. I'm working on a theme for it now & ill post if I get it working.

Should I mark cache and android secure too??
Also what is compression?
Skip md5, we don't want to do that, huh?

Compression compresses the files (like when you zip something)

I checked everything but data (since i don't actually use that partition)
And skip md5 is what it sounds like... It skips creating the md5 file that verifies the backup when restoring it

If you use this option you will have to choose the option to skip verifying md5 sum when restoring or it will just abort (i have not verified this, but it just makes sense)
