Smile [HOW-TO] CWM Recovery, Gingerbread Update w/ Custom ROM and UNBRICK!

I noticed there were parts and fragments of tutorials, but never a fill tutorial. For this phone, so I decided to make one. This tutorial will guide you through the process or rooting your phone, using ODIN for CWM, and Installing a custom ROM. You can also use the STOCK Rom ODIN file to restore if you ever need to take the phone back for warranty issues, or to restore from a softbrick.

IF YOU HAVE A BRICKD PHONE, SEE BOTTOM!!!

Rooting/Prep

1)Download SuperOneClick and Samsung Drivers.

SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse.zip - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage
SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_x86.exe - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage

Mirrors:
http://adf.ly/BHcGb
http://adf.ly/BHcmt

Extract and Open and Install the Samsung Drivers. Sometimes a reboot is needed.

2) On your phone, go into Settings -> Applications -> Development -> and Enable USB Debugging. Connect your phone to your computer.

3) Back on your PC, open up SuperOneClick and on the top right corner select ZergRush as the root method, then click root. The program WILL FREEZE! This is normal.. Leave it alone... Go get some beer or something.

4) Your phone needs to be restarted now... Do it.... and unplug your usb from your phone.

Thanks! Now I have all the software, but I kep running into the problem I've read about for this phone in mass storage mode. On several other forums a lot of the users and I are unable to access mass storage mode even with drivers installed. Have you encountered this issue? If so how did you fix it?

I never really encountered it for this exact phone, but I would try to unmount my sd card and use some kind of adapter, otherwise, uninstall all the drivers, reboot your pc, and reinstall the drivers then reboot again. I know it sounds dumb, but sometimes it works for people.

Default Rainbow Mode

Eman, a couple things:
1.) the Valhalla Rom is no longer available, is there any chance that you could post a link to this again?
2.) in between steps 6 & 7 something went wrong for me. My phone is stuck in an endless boot cycle with the rainbow screen appearing for some time and the restarting. Also, I can't access Download mode.
Any chance you can help me resolve this?

Any chance you can help me resolve this?

Try restarting into download mode using ADB... Google around for the code, cuz I'm in the middle of something right now lml... if that doesn't work, let me know I'll be glad to help.. I'll be psting the Valhalla again in a few hours

Then click START and let your phone become UNBRICKED ... btw this method return the original recovery and kills root... as well as every litle piece of data on your phone.[/QUOTE] how long does it take to become unbricked?
