Default OverClockWidget

Hi Everyone,

I did a search for this and I got a very good thread on the EVO 4G sub-forums...however I don't think all of it is pertinent to SGS. I may be wrong though because words like "kernel" are familiar but I have yet to understand what they mean. If this thread is in the wrong forum, I apologize.

As per my thread out here on Rooted Apps, one of the apps which Beards suggested was OverClockWidget (I have linked it to the AppBrain site).

I have downloaded it without downloading SetCPU (linked) but since I am not a tech guy I couldn't figure out what to do. I will download SetCPU tonight once I get my hands on my credit card.

This thread isn't really a question per say...I basically want a confirmation of information which I have read on other threads/sites.

I Googled "OverClockWidget recommended settings" and one of the threads which I got off another forums is here (I dunno if I am allowed to link other forums). The mod out there are laid out the settings as follows:

1. Download "Overclock widget" from the market

2. Add overclock widget to a space on a home screen

3. Click the newly created button

4. Choose advanced settings

5. Set the following settings in this order:
Near the bottom -> "Detect Frequencies" (no confirmation, it just does it)
Back to the top -> Screen On Freq Setting:
Min - 480000
Max - 691200
Tick Differ Freq Screen Off
Screen Off Freq Setting:
Min - 245760
Max - 245760
Tick Auto Start on Boot
Save

In this case make it higher.

Enjoy.

Having said this, my confirmation questions are:

  1. Is the above setting ok? I've already used those settings and they seem to be working fine. I cannot get the exact numbers like him (for some reason that option doesn't exist for me...I need to use round figures).
  2. I understand that if I delete the app from my home screen the settings will be preserved but if I reboot my phone I will have to restore the settings myself. Is this correct?
  3. One of the options in "Advanced Settings" is Use your frequencies. It comes checked by default. I don't know what to make of this. The warning sign right below this states CAUTION: MAYBE FREEZE YOUR PHONE! So from my understanding I have to allow it to be checked, right? There is no need for me to mess with this setting, right?
  4. SetCPU is a good app to have along with this but they are not mutually dependent on each other in such a way that I absolutely must have one of them if I have the other. Is this correct?

Thank you for your help. I hope there are others who may have similar questions as me.

Unfortunately I am just about to go into theatre and it will leave me out from helping you today Anuj.
Hope you get some response on this as I myself have not used 'OverClockWidget' on the SGS and am interested to hear what others may have to say on the matter.

Nobody has responded but I have had some time to play with the Widget.

My settings are similar to those mentioned below:

So I downloaded the app and I Added it to my home screen. I then proceeded to go to advanced settings as per the instructions.

I have checked the differ screen on freq setting. This means that every time the screen goes off more battery is preserved.

I put the Screen On Settings at:
Min: 400000
Max: 1000000

and the Screen Off Settings at:
Min: 100000
Max: 200000

My battery life has increased by a little bit. I do listen to a lot of music and stuff all the time so my usage levels are high all the time but this is my experience so far. If I learn something new I will update this. Hopefully this might help some people.

It's a shame no one replied but it's still early days and once you give the members something to think about it normally brings a response.

Keep a close eye on how things develop and get back to us.
