Question HELP - rooting, voodo lagfix - and now application errors, force close and vibrate :(:(

Emergency, guys:

FYI: Phone = Galaxy S i9000, 8GB

So the initial reason why I wanted to root my phone was to receive Android 3 and the gingerbread keyboard. The speed of galaxy s was not great I thought, but acceptable at that time. Getting the keyboard (which is indeed easier to use) is a SMALL trade off for what has happened now.

First, a month ago, I rooted my phone (with a lot of hassle). I think I used z4, but I followed different instructions and installed a lot of stuff (ROM manager, OCLF and so on, most for no use I think). I also downloaded the update.zip package several times, it is on my internal sd but I have no idea what use it has.

Then I got the keyboard and all was fine. I read about all lag fixes out there but wasīt able to apply the OCLF (because I did not have the right EXT or something, figured this out just recently), or didnīt bother too much.

Then, my phone got increasingly laggy and annoying, so I did a major attempt and installed Voodo lagfix a couple of days ago. AMAZING! Benchmark 1750 and just super fast. Today however, I was trying to turn on my phone. First the sound did not work properly, I couldnīt hear the other end of whom I was talking to, so I decided to turn it off and restart as usual.

Then it starts vibrating like hell! and says "rom manager", "gingerbread keyboard" and "launcher pro" stopped unexpectedly. Option: force close but that did not work. The messages keep on appearing and I have tried to restart the phone many times. It seems that these are applications that are a product of my stupid rooting, cause it was a little odd that these three applications suddenly should stop altogether.

Question 1: Why did that happen?

Then I did the three button recovery thing and now I have a range of options.

It says:

ClockworkMod Recovery v.2.5.1.3. - Voodo lagfix (heading)

- reboot system now (tried, didnīt work)
- apply sdcard: update.zip (I have update.zip on my sdcard but donīt know what itīs for and didnīt dare trying)
- wipe data/factory reset (donīt want to do this - have some great movies I would love to keep)
- install zip from sdcard
- backup and restore
- mounts and storage
- advanced
- voodo lagfix
- *******Go Back******

The question is:

what do do?

(Btw what does cache mean? There was an option of clearing cache, but it said "are you reeeally sure about this" so I didnīt dare to do that. But could that work?)

At the moment, my phone is just lying here (I just took out the battery after reciting the menu for this post) and I wait for some clever heads to work out the best solutions =) I do have ODIN on my computer, and a driver is already install, just if that helps anyone. again, wiping data has to be the last option due to the valuable movies I have in here. BTW I have titanium backup if that helps anyone, and I have used it before. But also that stopped unexpectedly (forgot to mention that :P)

Thank you sooo much in advance guys.

Wiping data won't affect the internal sd card. All your videos and photos will remain. The only thing you will lose are the apps and settings. Go ahead and give it a try.

Thanks for the reply.

So if I hit the "wipe data/factory reset", will the movies stay? I would love to go ahead and do it right away I just want to make sure if that is what you were suggesting. I donīt care about the apps etc. I think I actually have a backup of some of them on my external sd card.

Cheers

If the movies are on your internal SD, yes they will stay.

Just did it, and you were right! Now it is a matter of building a new stock of useful (only!) apps. Looks like voodoo is on still which Is ok i suppose since the speed is amazing.

Just make sure that in the future when you want to upgrade the firmware, remove the lagfix first. It can take a long while depending on how many apps you have installed. Usually I let it run by itself while going off for lunch.
