Default Upgrade from Darky 9.0extreme to GB based ROM:Which one, how to?

Hello android brethren,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S,GT I-9000, firmware version 2.2.1,baseband I9000XXJPY, Kernel 2.6.32.9 hardcore@speedmod with Darkys v9.0 Extreme edition.
I would like to upgrade to a GB based ROM. My priority is good battery life and stable performance( even if it is not blazing fast). I also need to upgrade to a GB based rom so that I can use the front cam for video calls.

I am looking at Darkys 10.2.2 final as well as cooking a ROM from Romkitchen.

Not looking at Cyanogen as I see feedback that while it is excellent on the aesthetic side, there are bugs, which lead to non working features.
When I first switched to Darkys 9.0 from stock Froyo, about 10 months back, I noticed a dramatic improvement in battery life, also phone became lag free. Now things are not so rosy. Battery life has dropped to barely 12 hours and phone lags sometimes when I open contacts/ save contacts/ open menu/apps etc

I would like recommendations on which one I should upgrade to and if you could point me to a good How to guide for the same, I would be extremely grateful.

TIA
iaudio

Edit: I am located in India, so which modem should I stick to?

Shine, Thank you!

Yep, running 10.2.2 EE. Its good but I am having a lot of FCs with certain apps. Could it be something to do with Titanium back up that I used?

I am using GO Launcher EX. Some of the apps have stopped FC after I uninstalled them( after the rom flash) and did a fresh re install! But some like Yahoo messenger still keep FC ing. The phone doesnt hang, no issues with lags or anything. But yeah, the FCs and also the fact that there is no improvement in battery life from Darkys 9.0 are making me think about trying something else!

I had Go launcher..for less than an hour before i got fed up with all the fc's. Launcher pro is amazing! give that a shot! And your battery life will depend a lot on your modem remember that!

FWIW, I uninstalled Titanium backup and reflashed Darkys 10.2.2. Now the FCs have ceased. Yahoo messenger had been the main casuality earlier, I couldnt get it to work despite re installing numerous times. But now, it works like a charm.

Shine, you are right, my modem might be the issue. I am yet to ascertain what modem might be most suitable for my country and whether flashing that particular modem would cause any issues with Darkys rom.
TIA

Flashing a modem will not effect your rom whatsoever. When i flash Darky on my phone I need to flash a modem because the one that comes with darky wont work for my carrier and i dont have ANY service SO flash away,

Cool

To be honest darkyrom is excellent with jvt base rom.plus darkcore kernel 4.0 (now that is awesome)..
Just remember darkyrom 10.2.2 is xxjvq base.. Also 2 versions one with TW4 launcher & one without..if you flashed with TW4 then that is known to be unstable..
If you want a fast smooth reliable rom then try F1 Innovation rom..
