Question How to root 2.3.6?

I was using SGS i9000 Android 2.3.3 (official from Kies) which already rooted.
Today I upgraded the system to 2.3.6 (XWJVZ). After flashing, I encountered some 'force close' issues, so I did factory reset, cache wipe and reboot the system.
From this point, the phone became unrooted and I was unable to root it again. I have tried to use SuperOneClick 2.3.2 and GingerBreak 1.2, but always fail or the process keep on going for more than half an hour.
Is there anything I can do to root it? I need to restore my apps and data through Titanium Backup, but it needs to be rooted.
Step by step guide will be most appreciated (I'm newbie). Thank you very much.

Update: skip this and see the post after this one.

Unfortunately the sticky read me here only says:

If you are on 2.3 or above, well.... if you are already flashing beta roms, you should already know how to do this.
which doesn't help me at all. I've upgraded firmware with Odin but that doesn't mean I understand what I'm doing. I just follow instructions monkey-fashion.

I haven't tried it yet but this seems to show you:
Root Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 on Gingerbread XWJVU / XWJVZ 2.3.6 Firmware: how to guide | SamsungMobileClub

However, I found the links to the CF Root Package didn't work. So I copied the link and googled the filename and found the one for JVZ here:
Download CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip for free on Filesonic.com
But before you do anything, check your phone status to see if you have JVZ or JVU.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can confirm that this is the right approach before I go ahead.

Anybody? ...please.

Make sure you press the power on key last, while holding the others down. And then hold them all down until you see something on the screen.

BTW, I don't know what S+ is but be sure you have the right root file for your phone.

S+ is the galaxy S plus (GT i9001)
I even tried the script to auto boot to update mode and still at android out of box screen it still just loads normal. Just noticed there is no S+ forum bah.
