Default [APP] - Reduce Lag and Speed Up Responsivness in the BSGS2 - Snakeoil?

from Lifehacker.com

"Android (Rooted): One of the biggest issues with Android is lagódelays that make launching apps and returning to the home screen take a little longer than they probably should. XDA forum member and developer lambgx02 tackled the issue and came up with a simple app that seriously decreases Android lagómaking apps launch faster, homescreens scroll faster, and your phone feel much more responsive."

yep - it works great

super easy to install, took literally 5 seconds. There is a QR code so all you have to do is point your phone at the computer screen and it installs for you.

I don't see any lag on my phone now. What exactly does it do, increase buffers or something?

Okay I see it monkeys with random data. dhabell: let us know how it affects your battery with it waking phone once per second.

I thought my phone didnt have any lag either. but this app proved me wrong. Im turbo charged now.

If you want the technical details on how it works you will have to read about if for yourself on XDA. The lifehacker article also gives some details.

but here is a quote from the XDA thread linked above.

"Random data is used for all kinds of stuff.. UUID generation, session keys, SSL.. when we run out of entropy, the process blocks. That manifests itself as lag. The process cannot continue until the kernel generates more high quality random data.

So, I cross-compiled rngd, and used it to feed /dev/urandom into /dev/random at 1 second intervals."

there is more at the link if you understand that gibberish...

Phone flies as it is but I installed it last night. YouTube does open faster and maybe slight improvement with gaming but battery drain not evaluated yet.

Are you having any issues with CPU Sleeper? I've read of people having a problem where the core doesn't come back on. I'm rooted running stock ROM and stock kernel. Thanks.

I could see that performance gains would be seen by constantly waking the processor to a more active state, and that will cause more drain on the battery. I have seen performance gains just by upping the minimum clock speed from 200 to 400 or so, but again that will cost battery.

From the OP

After trying it for a while I decided to uninstall. Didn't really notice a hit on my battery but my setup has no lag anyway. not really worth it.

nope never had this problem. I use the dual core version. I read the quad core version will create problems if you install it on a dual core phone.
