Decisions decisions. I was going to stick with dark knight as .7 allows backup and restore to external sd. Now siyah has this as well I may have to give it a go.

Go on Shotgun84... you know you want to!

Early days yet but it seems to be performing better than the Dark Knight version from yesterday.

Using "ondemand" governor to start with.

Just got back to my desk and saw that you'd all added to the thread and thought... "What are they on about?"

Picked up my SGSII and it's in such a deep sleep... it's comatose!

Back to the drawing board as they say.

Lets not moan about it and look on the positive side...

It's a cracking power saving kernel if you don't use your phone that often!

Also spare a thought for those less fortunate... iPhone 4S users who are moaning about 50% battery drain an hour.

Every cloud as they say.

Jerky as hell in the menu for me whilst overclocked. Trying without now.

Jerky whatever I do. Do not like.

I'm not alone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18969888&postcount=8457

The worst part for me is r3 and final both don't recognise my usb connection.

EDIT: Apparently I had usb debugging checked in settings/applications/dev . No idea what done that. :S Fixed the problem unchecking it though .

First impressions are good. It seems smoother than the rc's and on a plus side my phone woke up when I pressed the power button.

It seems to run smooth overclocked to 1600. Much less and the app drawer struggles. My benchmark scores have shrunk though. ....and whoop there it is , conservative governor

have you got rid of the lag then rudedawg??

read on xda that setting governer to "on-demand" fixes this? does that work with you?

not gonna bother with anymore siyah unless this lag thing is resolved - get better user experience on hellcat, and better benchmark scores for what they;re worth

I haven't played around with it much yet but I get no lag on the default 1.2ghz and lulzactive governor. It seems quick as well. Webpages seem to load quicker than dark knight and I had that set to 1.4ghz.

Funnily enough lag has gone. I've been on a right trip. Even reflashed ninphetamine at one stage. Came back to 2.1 plane 100-1200 get a lower benchmark than previously but the lag has gone. End of the day my phone works as it should. Battery is still shite. But I'm gonna accept it ain't gonna get much better now. Just text s in the last hour took it down 10%. All the Calibrating in the world ain't gonna change it. Browser speed is nippy, no lag skipping through pages. Home button works well and responsive. USB works fine. Kitchen application works as normal. Screenshots all good. Cwm recovery now much better. Faster with the softkey back select returning. phone calls all good. Long story short no complaints right now.

Reading this back is painful. Hate posting using the phone... ironically :-)

Benchmark 1.2ghz lulzactive

I thought I'd see what the kernel could actually do so I set it to 1.6ghz and used performance governor

I might have to keep it like that and just remember to carry 5 spare batteries with me.

And. Because shotgun did It. To prove it's no fluke...

Maybe I'll give it another go then and fiddle with settings.

Btw you mentioned the usb debugging thing. Did unticking this improve things? Doesn't titanium need it to be ticked?

Also, the scores you and shotgun get on overclocking are impressive. I get around 6000 with hell cat. If you oc and get these performance results does it actually make a difference to day to day use? And do you then get worse battery?

You'll notice the difference while loading webpages as its a case of blink and you miss it. Overclocking to 1.6ghz does use a little more battery but not that much more. I used performance governor for the benchmark which isn't supposed to be for everyday use as it drains the battery. I think its more for using when your phone on charge. But still overclocking and using a sensible governor will still make your phone feel a bit speedier.

9h 32m so far and battery is at 84%. No wakelock issues, lag or other problems noticed. This with Dlev 3.1, smartassV2 governor, standard clocks but my own tested undervolting settings.

I've had to go back to dark knight. There's been a couple of times today where I've been using my phone and the screens gone black. The only way I could get it working again was to boot into recovery and then reboot from there.

The only anomalies i've encountered was when trying to call someone it went silent yet the person i called could hear me. Also when they called me I couldnt hear them. This was however a one off but strange none the less.
That an the battery is pants lol . I may buy one of those bolt on batteries anyway.

Are you undervolting the CPU at all? Mine won't resume from sleep if I use 100MHz @ 800mV. 825mV is the minimum I can use, which is annoying as both 200MHz and 500MHz are 100% stable at 800mv.

Nah I wasn't undervolting, I didn't even overclock. The only thing I had changed was the governor to SavagedZen.

sounds promising, and may try again

but have recently switched to speedmod - although it doesn't have all the governers, bln, oc/uv support, and all the other bells and whistles of siyah, it seems to get rave reviews on xda, so been trying this the last couple days
the speed is simply awesome, my s2 has never been so quick
and battery drain is a flat horizontal line when not in use
scores 6200 on antutu
definately no lag with this

even though i cant mess around with governers, the speed and battery are so good i think i'll stick with this for a bit.... certainly a kernel that lives up to it;s name.

Put 2.1.1 on Dlev3.1
WOW! VERY impressed so far. Extremely smooth. Not a lag in sight for me. Browsing also seems extremely snappy.

Comes with CWM v5.0.2.7 which has the old-style orange text instead of cyan. Also has back-key soft button support as per v4.

Going to resotre my CheckROM backup and put it on this too to see how the two compare.......

Well CWM4 backups restore fine on CWM5.
I can also confirm CWM5 backups are NOT compatible with CWM4

Installed Siyah 2.1.1 on ChekROM and as with DlevROM, early signs seem very good indeed. I will keep you posted......

Not sure if its the ROM or kernel, but is anyone on Siyah 2.1.1 and has BLN working?
I cant get it to work on DlevROM 3.1 (even though this is reported as fixed in this version)
I'm putting CheckROM back on for now to test. If it works, I might try applying CheckROM's BLN mod over DlevROM......

Yup. BLN works on CheckROM with Siyah 2.1.1
I will now try applying CheckROM's BLN mod over DlevROM to see what happens.....

BLN NOW WORKS by doing the above.

Siyah kernel 2.2beta1 is up.

v2.2beta1 changelog:

init.rc changes to support ICS based ROMs (not yet finalized)
xz compression support. better compression with faster decompression (boot). not as fast as gzip in decompression but size matters more for me.
initramfs fixes to get rmmod working (thanks to smitna)
blue color in CWM recovery 5.0.2.7, again with back button support
reverted some files and the speed is better now. I donít know the reason yet but it should be as responsive as v2.1beta14
-msoft-float replaced with -mhard-float in some Makefiles. may increase speed but even if it doesnít it will not make it worse.
re-enabled ARM_ERRATA_753970
fixed CPUSpy not reporting time_in_state if you modified freq_table
fixed CIFS problem. it was a problem with initramfs and affecting all modules. now all compiled modules are in the initramfs (/lib/modules)

Some say that he is more machine than man... we just know him as, The Slug!

Early results are favourable for me.

(actually, with my track record on kernels, this should be the kiss of death for this one!)

Aye, a very badly-oiled and creaky one this morning.

No issues found here so far, either. It's certainly stable - I managed a 7437 in AnTuTu last night @ 1600MHz - and since coming off the charger this morning battery usage has been 1%/hr.

yeah oddly I got 7437 on DK this morning. Highest Ive had yet.
Battery is about 10% over night. Was worse on Siyah 2.1 final. Meh I dont get how people only lose 1% in a night of no usage. :S 4 hours is about 50% for me

Siyah 2.2 beta 2 is up!

"some patches applied: posix-timers: RCU convention [Eric Dumazet], Fixed ext4 disk write performance regression
default i/o scheduler set to cfq (some of my friends think it is working better with 1080p recording and it is set as default by the stock kernel). I am still using sio FYI.
kernel config changes
reverted all changes in arm platform sources
removed all unsafe optimization flags
disabled tvout. I will convert it to module later
"

Here I go again!

UPDATE

Both 2.2b1 and b2 seem very smooth on 100MHz. More so than 2.1.1.

You can be chief guinea-pig for this one, pal. I'm still getting over the fact that beta1 spent most of today out of wifi and 3G range without trashing my battery. It's the politest kernel I've used.

If beta3 is as good as beta1 has been to me today... I'll be a happy bunny!
