Thanks for your help ironass. But the are two kind of kernel 200mhz and 300mhz, which kind should I choose and what are the differences? And also what are rom? Do I have to use a custom rom or can I just stick to the original rom?

I do not own the, "G", variant and so therefore you have reached the limit of my knowledge on the subject.
Can I suggest re-posting that question on the i9100G thread as they will be up to speed.
hey i cant find a tar file for my galaxy s2 4g on telstra in australia? my current kernal version is 2.6.35.11-I9210TDVLD1=CL087044dpi@DELL134#2 i run andriod version 2.3.6 and my base band version is U9210TDVLD1 can someone please help me? i want to root my phone but am new to this so i need it for dummies
The Galaxy S2 4G (GT-i9210T) is similar in hardware specs to the AT&T Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Firmwares differ but the rooting procedure is compatible afaik.
Thanks once again to Samsung and the carriers for thoroughly confusing the issue.
thank you guys.
finallyyy FLASHED to LPG via Odin yesterday and ROOTED my S2 today(first timer ). wat a relief. had never thought of such procedures during the last 8months of having the S2. it really was a smooth process with the help of Ironass guides.
now I would like to clarify few things before getting deeper into the stuff. plz advise.
1- i have done nandroid backup(through recovery mode). is this procedure exactly the same as doing backup from within the CWM app? I understand this a 'system restore' thingy. wat is the scenario that this backup should have to be restored again? if I FLASH different ROMS and then do this nandroid restore while using someother ROM, would it delete all that and take me back to right where I am now?
2- next about the Titanium backup. I have bought the Pro version. just update all apps and data using that, rite
3- before proceding to the ROM flashing procedures, is there something that should necessarily be done? in case something goes wrong
4- ROOT EXPLORER app itself should be installed? or apps like androzip and astro would do the same work?
5- USB debugging mode should be always enabled after ROOTING is done?
6- Odin Ver 1.85 and ver 3.04. I saw these versions, but Ironass guide says v1.85. is that a better one?
7- the 'TRIANLE AWAY' app, should it be installed now, or sometime later, when in need of warranty again?
thank you all. cheers....

1. a CWM (or nandroid) backup is a complete snapshot of your current system barring the modem. whatever you do to your device in terms of roms, apps, data etc, restoring it will return you to the state your phone was at the time of taking the backup. What scenario to restore????? if you dont like your current setup/rom, if your device wont boot, if you lose your status bar, the list is endless.
2. just use it to back up your user apps+data, and possibly some selected system apps (mostly data only). Dont restore system apps/data between firmware versions as this may cause FC's
3. Before flashing a new rom, take a CWM backup then format /system and factory reset (or run my Nuke script. I see you have already read my full wipe thread so that pretty much sums it up.
4. use ES file explorer
5. No, it doesnt matter.
6. You can use either. 3.04 can also be used on the GS3
7. Install it if you want, or get a USB Jig off eBay.
After root GalaxyS2 wont reboot - only get yellow triangle
I followed Rooting Galaxy S2 - A Dummies Guide, used the LPB Kernal. I am running ICS. ODIN told me I PASSED and the root looked successfull but now the Galaxy S2 wont reboot. I can go to download mode but I cant reboot the phone. when I try I get the yellow triangle and then screen goes black. PLEASE HELP. I have searched threads for an answer but can´t find one completely on point. Help a newbie out and sorry for the trouble.
Not quite sure how to deal with CWM recovery as I did not install it on my phone before i tried the root (no excuse there). As for other Kernals, I tried one other and same result. Not too sure about trying one that doesnt match the stock kernal i replaced?? I have read in other threads about reflashing a stock kernal. Any other ideas??
Thanks. see that now. Appreciate your patience. Fixing permissions now. by format dalvik catch do yu mean to wipe it? also, where do I see the option to format cache (non dalvik) (is it wipe cache partition)??? thanks

wiped cache + wiped Dalvik cache + fixed permissions = No Joy - still only get yellow triangle and device name on boot up. Any suggestions on other Kernal??? I am on I9100BVLPB (Orange Spain). Help :-(
Anyway... in case anyone is interested... I found the next closest kernal (LPD from LPB) reflashed with Odin and now it works fine. Hawkers advise was sparse - but on the money.
Only to see if you were entitled to the Pensioners discount... and you were!
That must be a discretion exclusive to Cotswolds drinking establishments.
No wonder you spend so much time "modem testing" in the Twilight Zone you penny-pinching alchy!!!
Hi, I have a small confusion. Recently I rooted my S2 for the first time after flashing the stock LPG firmware. Using the CF root file attached along with the LPG firmware in an XDA thread. After that I noticed the CWM app in the app manager. But now after flashing the RESURRECTION REMIX 2.2 ROM, this CWM app is not seen in the app drawer. But I still have root.
Wat must have happened.
Should I re flash the CF root file once again to get that CWM app in the app drawer again.
Since I am using the resurrection remix ROM now, flashing the CF root file of LPG could be done or avoided? Please advise.thank you.
Hi,
Yes I used the app, root checker basic, and it says its rooted.
By compatible CF root kernel, Wat did u mean. The kernel of the custom ROM I am currently using?
Or the kernel of the LPG stock firmware which I used, for rooting the first time?

That kernel is for Gingerbread, Android 2.3.x. If you are on ICS, Android 4.0.3, you will need SiyahKernel SGS2 v3.3.2 from here. Flashing it is the same as the Gingerbread version. Just don't use the settings.

One more question Before I root is it sufficient that I clear my USB storage (internal) and factory reset my phone?? Or is there anything more that I should do?

You don't need to do that when rooting your phone! See posts #1 and #2.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums wolflet27!
Unfortunately, knowing that you are on DXLPB firmware does not help with the choice of CF-Root kernel.
Please see under, "The Root Kernel", in post #1 which describes precisely how to ascertain the root kernel needed for your phone.

Congratulations ares05!
I trust that you have made Titanium Backup and nandroid backup as well as backing up your effs folder, as per post#2. These are your, "Get out of jail cards", that we modders rely on.

Ok. Figured out to use lpb cf root according to kernel i9100dxlpb. After going thru odin tho, the phone won't boot pass yellow triangle. Had to unroot thru stock firmware to get it back on. Help please?

Which CF-Root kernel did you use to root your phone?
Great Guide. Would like to just clarify before I take the big step. Ive got 3.0.15-i9100xwLP7-CL340913 DPI@DELL134#3 on my handset. Im thinking i need CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_LP7-v5.4-CWM5.zip as it has LP7 and XW in the name. Is this correct of is there something more relevant. Ps, which virus apps actually work on Android as i hears theres a new Android botnet..

Hello and welcome to Android Forums, (The Asylum), Lenard The Pig!
Your choice of kernel is spot on.
As for an Android antivirus software, personally, I don't use one as I believe that the best way of protecting yourself is by not being stupid. By that I mean that if you follow the guidelines laid down in this post you are pretty much covered.
Even the best Android antivirus software is no guarantee I'm afraid and could lull you into a false sense of security. Besides, being rooted means that you can have nandroid and Titanium backups that you can revert to easily, see post #2.
Having said that, I know that some of my colleagues on here use an antivirus software and three spring to mind...

Yup that's the right kernel you've got there. I used the same one yesterday to root my S2.
That kernel is the XX OXX LPB for the Eastern European firmware that was released back in April, I think.
Your DXLPB firmware, for Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, which came out last week is not compatible with that CF-Root kernel I'm afraid.
I have just done a quick Google and cannot find a CF-Root kernel for DXLPB as yet.
The nearest that I can come up with is the DXLP9 CF-Root kernel which may work as it is close.
Since you have already got your stock DXLPB firmware which you have, correctly, flashed already, to get you out of trouble... you could try that kernel and see if you can get root with it.
If not, you will have to sit tight until there is a CF-Root kernel for the DXLPB or you could try this method, here.
OK so im in Odin 3.4 and connect in download mode but the COM box isnt yellow do i need to install newer drivers fr the Galaxy s2 ? Have you ensured that you could connect OK to Kies as per post #1?
Yup, tried Kies, backed up contacts successfully. Tryed install Driver located in Kies folder on comp. Check USB Debugging is enabled. Tryed a couple of Rear USB ports ( COM 4 / 6 )

EDIT Just noticed you checked USB debugging.
So, you have your phone in DOWNLOAD MODE when you connect it to Odin via USB?
You have also ensured that Kies is NOT running in the background?

I uninstalled Kies, restarted. Then i went ahead and clicked start. It appeared to work, i used Root Checker free and it said im rooted. Any other way to check / any reason the box didnt turn yellow or any problems doing it while its not yellow.

Are CWM and SU (Superuser) installed in the App Drawer?
