Default unable to root SGH-I727 with easy root. Any advice?

I tried to root using easy root, followed steps, ran root.bat as administrator, appeared to run, said I have root, but I do not. any tips, or advice on a better way?

How do you know you do not have root? You may not have the SU app installed but you could be rooted. Try downloading the free version of Titanium Backup from the market. When you open it, it should ask you to allow SU permissions. If you are able to grant it, then you are rooted.

I have SU and TB installed, there are no apps listed in SU and when I try and open TB is says root access failed. I also have root checker and it says I am not rooted. I do have cpu tuner for rooted phones up and running so now I am confused.

OK, just checking. It wasn't clear in the OP and sometimes the root tools don't install SU. Let me hunt around.

What phone are you using? I am looking in S2 Skyrocket. This isn't the HD version, correct.

I'm looking into whether SuperOneClick root will work for your phone. In the meantime, I wanted to check that you had enabled USB debugging when you attempted to root.

OK, I saw someone in your forum had success using SuperOneClick and that person didn't sound too comfortable with Android yet, so I think you are good to go. I have used this method on a couple of phones that were finicky with root taking, and have had success. Let me know if this works for you.

Again, I have had success with the SuperOneClick method I listed above. It really is as simple as connecting your phone and clicking the "Root" button.

Dammit, I didn't realize the DL link was at multiupload. I've been trying to get a boot animation from there for the past couple of days. I think it is down. I'll hunt around for a mirror.

I found a download link on CNET, you may want to give it a try. Looks like multiupload has gone dark

do I need to do anything on my phone with the previous root attempt (unroot) I am curious, since I do appear to have some sort of root access since I have cpu tuner running.

I don't think so. I believe that it will just install the SU binaries and the SU application on your phone.

2.1.1 may work, when I read the thread I think the downside of it not working is possibly only getting temp root or not rooting at all. Really didn't mention anything about bricking devices.

I linked to a Google search for 2.3.3 downloads. I am at work and a lot of these sites are blocked for me here, so I can't test them. Just be careful you don't venture into any sketchy areas of the interwebs and make sure your AV is up to date. I don't like downloading files from sites that aren't linked in these forums or XDA (CNET is different, they have been around forever).

https://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=super+one+click+2.3. 3+download&oq=super+one+click+2.3.3+download&aq=f& aqi=g1g-b1&aql=&gs_sm=3&gs_upl=1291l1291l0l1583l1l1l0l0l0l 0l240l240l2-1l1l0

Let me know if 2.1.1 worked though.

I found 2.3.3, (finally) 8 pages deep in google. AV scanned and sitting on my desktop. My wife has me busy for a while and the I'll give it a go, I'll report back soon.

still having trouble. Not sure where my issue is. The 2.3.3 I downloaded appeared to be ok, I unzipped, set debugging on, connected usb cable, opened super one click, it seemed to open but not sure where to go from here. I pressed the root button on top left and it closes the operation. I am not sure if I am leaving something out or if the file I downloaded was flawed. Seems like a pretty evasive file for me to find. Any thoughts?

I just checked the XDA thread I linked to earlier in this thread and they have updated the download link so you know you are getting a clean version from the author. When I get home I'll look into it a little more.

edit: the link I mean is the one in post #13

ok. I downloaded from that link, extracted, debugged, opened, hit root, and a box pops up and says super one click has stopped working. Driver issue? The only driver I installed was last night from the first time I tried rooting.

Thanx. It took me a bit of digging to root my last phone (HTC inspire). I had some trouble at first but after some effort I was able to figure it out. I really appreciate your help. Like I said, it is probably just some minor oversight on my end. Doesn't help with so many different pages describing the process out there.

I found this over at the XDA thread:

Quote:
You NEED to put your phone on USB Debugging mode
You NEED to install make sure the Android drivers for your phone are installed
Make sure you DO NOT mount your SD card.
If you still can't get something to run, try doing it in recovery mode.
I know you did the first one.
You said you did the second, but did you get the drivers (edit:wtf is this in auto correct:frovers) from Samsung or in the post you tried rooting from?
Not sure about number three, I didn't do anything special when I used it.
The last one looks promising, if you know how to boot your phone into recovery, try running super one click when there. Usual combinations for boting into recovery are:
  1. With phone off, hold power up and press power
  2. With phone off, hold power down and press power
  3. With phone off, hold power up and down and press power

with all of these, keep holding the volume key until you boot into recovery.

OK, dug some more. Make sure your drivers are up to date (I know you've done this, just sayin) and when you connect the phone to your PC, make sure it is not connected as a storage device (I don't remember what the other mode is, they changed it with ICS).

There will probably be posts waiting for you. I am now realizing that my drivers were not properly installed at first. I got those installed, but one click is still shutting down when I click root. Shoul my device be recognized when I open Super one click?

small victories but no root yet. I tried a couple times on the pc I am on now(WIN 7) but always got the same message when I hit the root button in super one click (super one click has stopped working). I decided to give the vista pc in my studio a try. I started from scratch, installed what I think are the right drivers, Kies for samsung, I downloaded super one click from the link above, extracted, debug, unmounted, click root and super one click did go through some processes lasting less than a minute, and said end, and I am still not rooted.Perhaps tomorrow I can post a screen shot of what one click did. at least I got it to do something other than just close down.. bedtime.

I found this thread over at XDA for your phone ([MOD] ROOT [ACS] Skyrocket Easy Root - Windows/Mac/Linux - xda-developers). I has a simple (although colorful) walk-through with links to everything you need including drivers. If you haven't had success yet, it may be worth a read.

You mentioned you were trying to run SuperOneClick on Win 7. Were you running it as administrator? I think you have to right click on the app and do it that way. I'm not sure as I am still running XP but I saw others having issues with these rooting apps b/c they weren't running as admin.

That is the same easy root that I attempted the first two times. I tried it again and no luck
how do I post a screenshot? The easy root command box appears and go through the motions and then says I have root, but I do not. Not completely anyway. I have superuser just as before, but it is empty , CPU tuner seems to be working. TB fails to recognize root along with a rom manager I have installed. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling these apps with no luck. I am wondering about the mount thing. When I plug my phone in It doesn't have the list of options in the dropdown screen like my inspire did.It just says "usb connected along with a button to connect usb storage. Seems like I am getting closer to root. I will head downstairs and re-run super one click and post a screen shot of that once I figure out how to do that.

Its a little blurry, but looks like it is unable to find a folder. Try moving the entire directory to the root of c:\ on your PC. I kinda remember this recommendation from when I rooted my OG Droid, but that was a couple of years ago.

I'm talking about the folder where you are running SuperOneClick from.

I had looked at the root method using odin and was a little scared of it. I have downloaded the files I need to do it but I am expecting a few interruptions this morning, So I will wait to start when I have full attention. I would like to try moving the directory thingy

Third step from the bottom is where it is trying the exploit to root the phone (cannot stat e:\superoneclick\...). I think that it needs to be run in Admin mode. Can you right click on the command prompt icon and choose run as administrator. when you get the black screen with a prompt type:

e:
cd superoneclick
superoneclick.exe

then click root. I believe this will allow it to run the other apps it needs to as administrator as well.
