Default Samsung Galaxy s3 stuck in "odin mode" ?

my phone is stuck on a screen that says:
Odin mode
product name: SCH-R350U
Custom Binary Download: yes (1 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Official
QUALICOM SECUREBOT: ENABLE

and below that there's a picture that has a phone next to a computer with an exclamation point inside of a yellow triangle and below it, it says:
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.

I've tried to connect to Kies but it just wont connect with my laptop. Please help!
