Amy,
What you need to do is press and hold the power button whilst at the same time touching the screen (you may have to wait up to 30 seconds as it clears the system).
You will then notice the battery indicator pops up.
The Tablet will then reboot .
Everything goes back to normal.
If that fails to work ~ Connect the power cable and repeat the above steps.
Awesome Beards!!!!! Thank you this worked

If you don't even have access to Recovery mode Keith then you are truly in trouble.
At that point your only option is to take the Tablet to the nearest Samsung Service Centre.

Thanks Beards,
Have bitten the bullet and taken back to dealer. Samsung say it is knackered needs exchanging.
New topic really, what is supposed to happen when you flash to a new rom? e.g. when it reboots does it stay at black screen until complete or does it switch on to complete flash?

Depends on the ROM Kieth.
Some go straight to boot up whilst others require further screen updates.

even though I think I already know the answer I'll give it a try and hope for help.
I got my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4 weeks ago, when I was in the US. It worked perfectly up until 2 days ago. It went dead and does not doe anything anymore. I tried everything that was mentioned on this page but nothing seems to work. No lights, no vibrating no nothing.
Plugging and unplugging... nothing seems to help. Touching the screen doesn't do anything either (although I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly).
My hope is that I'm to stupid to follow instructions. It seems that almost all tabs are working again.
I'm not sure if I can just go to a Samsung Service Center in Germany (since I bought the tab in the US)

It does sound as if it is indeed dead.
However, it does not matter where you are. First take the Tab to your nearest service centre and get them to look at it. You should still be able to get this fixed under warranty.

Well. It seems that my plan doesn't work. Samsung says that they can't repair US tablets because they use different parts. That means that I can't send my tab in.
Any other suggestions? Maybe some trick I haven't tried yet or a place I can take my tab?

That's a new one..... The parts are universal. They are all manufactured in Korea.

hey can anybody help me.. pls help me bout my sgy.. after i follow d process on nstaling creed's rom.. after rebooting.. home screen not runing.. after seeing the brand name on its opening. it doesnt proceed to home.. its just a dark monitor i only see.. wat shud i do?//
I also have some problems with my tab. I think the battery is messed up because I cant do anything without having the charger plugged in. But still, when it´s plugged in. I can only get to the battery icon. A few hours ago I could get it into recoverymode but from recoverymode it froze on the android icon.
And now I cant even get into recovery mode :S I´ve tried holding
On/off, volume up.
The first time my Tab wouldn't turn on the "power button touch the screen" suggestion worked. Today that wouldn't solve it. First and most important,..,. don't panic.
I went to Samsung and the FAQ. They suggestion a hard reset. I was told I'd lose my data files (I didn't). I did the hardset (read it carefully... it says hold down the power button and hold down the "down" loudness setting button) until you see the words "samsung", then let go the power button, but continue holding down the down volume button until you see the two android icons. touch the up volume button to move to the left ..... yada yada.. did it all... and it reset and I DID NOT lose any data... then I updated the firmware...
I had the same issue with my tab shutting off and not wanting to turn back on... I used your advice and it not working. can anybody help me please...it new buy .i use it only one day and i dont know how to resolve it
mine was off last night...try to on still cant...try to charge 1-630am still not charge...no indication at all... this morning i google & got 1 solution...hold down on button for 10 seconds until its turn on...i tried twice then its on again like usual...

If your Tab is still not booting up, switch it off and this time put it in 'Recovery Mode'.
Hold the volume Up button and also hold the Power button turn on the Tab, a screen will pop up and ask you a question and you will be in the recovery mode.
Next look at the list of small written options and choose to reset your Tab again or whichever is relevant to getting your device back up and running.
If it doesn't go right the first time you can do this procedure again choosing a different option.

If you can not even drop into Recovery Mode you have a serious issue.
Recovery mode bypasses the start up procedure and you should be able to access it.
Confirm you are doing the procedure correctly:-
Hold the Volume Up and then whilst still holding the Volume Up button press and hold the Power button.
Don't let go of any of the buttons until you see a small icon and notice informing you you are in Recovery Mode.
If this is not happening you have what is known as a 'Bricked' device and the only option left here is to contact your nearest Samsung Service Centre.
These centre's are populated very well so you shouldn't have any issues in finding a local centre.
What you must do is give them a call then pop over with the Tab.
They will then try to rectify the damage.
Provided the device is still within it's warranty period you will get this done under warranty with no cost.

They may be able to fix it but it may not be covered by warranty as it is outside of where it was purchased from.
If I were you I would call them anyway, just to see what they say.

The fact you got it working again initially would say there is no problem but that could have been a disaster waiting to happen.
Whilst using the device, heat from the battery, graphics and processor chips may have caused condensation to build up in the phone.
If that is the case you may have shortened out a terminal for the graphics or boot up sequence.
First question ~ Can you get into 'Recovery Mode'?
If you can, see if you can boot up the phone that way.
Second question ~ whilst the phone is off and you are trying to power it back up again do any of the soft button lights at the bottom of the phone come on?
If not that is a clear indication you are not getting any and I do mean ANY power to start the phone.
If that is the case I am very sorry but you are doomed.
Your only course of action would then be to contact either a Samsung Service Centre (of which there are many locally to wherever you are near towns and cities) or your phone provider.
The Following User Says Thank You to Beards For This Useful Post:

To get into Recovery mode look above... I mention it quite a few times (I've been dishing out fixes that many times it should be there).
Anyway, here's what you can try doing first.....
Take off the back of the phone and remove anything that is not screwed down (battery, memory card, Phone card, etc. etc.
Next, get hold of some Rice and pour it into a bowl big enough to take your phone and then place your phone in the bowl ensuring the phone is TOTALLY submerged.
Now leave the phone for a couple of days.......... What should happen is Rice is excellent at absorbing moisture.
Now, after 48hrs remove the phone from the rice and blow hard to remove any dust that may have accumulated from the moisture drying out and reinsert all the parts again and see if you can get the phone to start back up again.
If Yes, then job done, it was moisture and drying it out fixed it.
If No, then your only course of action is returning it to one of the two I mentioned above.
btw... please leave a Thank You if you feel my comments deserve it.
All Thank You items that are given are converted into a Charitable Donation.
Thanks.

No problem... as always I am simply pleased you once again have a working Tablet.
The problem is all down to the device putting itself into a deep sleep mode that under normal operation can not be woken ~ hence the little 'trick' into reactivating the operating system.
Samsung thought they had the problem cured a long while back but it still continue's to surface now and again... As usual it is left to us to find solutions.

Well I am very pleased you found this topic spifkeen.
I don't like to see any device sent back so 2 out of 5 saved from returns is not a bad percentage but it just shows as in your case 40% of machines did not require going back. Apply those maths to the hundreds that get sent back and it's soon evident there's an awful lot of Tablets going back that didn't need it... had Samsung sorted this issue out in the first place.

If you have help the power & Up button and done a factory reset then clearly you can get into recovery mode.
If my trick is not helping your issue would now point to an error in the firmware preventing the Tab from loading.
What I would now recommend is to do the following:-
1. Go to SamMobiles.com and register an account.
2. Once done go to the Firmware tab and search for your Tab.
3. Once your Tab results are shown look for the most recent firmware update and click on Download which you will find to the right of the appropriate firmware.
4. Next, click on the FlashPrograms tab and again find your appropriate Tablet. This should give you a program named Odin to use on a PC.
5. FInally click on the FlashGuide tab and download the instructions on how to use both Odin and the firmware.
Once you have these two, now by using the flashguide for guidance you will be using Odin to import the downloaded firmware into Odin.
All you then have to do is put your phone into 'Download Mode' (the same as you did for Recovery mode only press Volume Down and not Up.
With the phone in Download mode, attach it to your PC via USB cable and Odin should say the two are connected (Comm1 will light up Blue in Odin top left).
Start the firmware update and do not touch your Tablet until completion.
Once the firmware has been updated you will then be able to start the Tablet and all should then be fine again.
At that point you can safely disconnect the Tablet from the PC and USB cable.

I have completed the downloading of PIT file and a green pass showed on the screen.
Then the guild asks me to remove the battery, unselect Re-Partition Box and select the PDA, PHONE and CSC files.
I only have one file from the Firmware folder. I selected that one for three of the boxes.
The tab is showing downloading bar, but not moving further since it reach to about 20%.

Providing you have followed the guide to the letter and it is the guide for your Tab then it should work.
It does take a while but shouldn't leave you waiting for ages.
The best part with using Odin is if things go wrong you can try and do it again.
