Alchemy is a game in which one can combine "elements" for the purpose of creating more elements. One starts with four initial elements: earth, air, water, and fire, which can be created by double tapping on the workspace screen. Combining these elements, as well as elements created from these four initial ones, can result in new compounds. Elements are combined by dragging one on top of the other. If they can combine, a new element is created. However, only certain combinations will result in new elements. These combinations often make sense to some extent (for example, earth + water = swamp).
The workspace can be cleared of an element by dragging the element to the trash can at the bottom of the screen. Or, the entire workspace can be cleared by a button in the menu. Furthermore, any element that has been created at least once can be instantly put on the workspace, without having to recreate it from its constituate elements.
The most recent update increased the number of creatable elements to 154. These do take a fair amount of time to unlock, and the application seems to be updating with new elements fairly regularly.
A list of all possible combinations is available at http://thomaslambert.webs.com/alchemy.htm. However, finding the combinations oneself is far more fun and rewarding than using the list. Overall, Alchemy is a great game for the puzzle lover, and a great time waster!

I'm so embarassed that as a Physics teacher, I've only gotten less then 50! (but truth be said, I was watching the ball game last night, so I really wasn't paying much attention to it... but rest assured, after school today (and after grading papers tonite, I am soooo sitting down to play this game!) I would definitely pay for this or an upgrade! To the game designer Zed ... kudos to you, Sir!
how do you work with that many elements?
i only have 120 and am finding it almost impossible to play the game any longer
LOL.....you don't have to have them all on the workspace at the same time. Just clear it off then add back choice elements you want to work with or think might make new combinations. I pretty much keep life, pressure, energy and electricity as constants on my workspace but other than that I am always swapping things in and out and maybe only have 5-10 elements on the workspace at any one time.
Have to say I love this game. I only started a couple of days ago so am only on 87/300 but most of the combos are logical and some of them are just plain hilarious!
Got stuck around 130 and gave up.....for a while. I told my friend that has an i-Phone about it and he thought it was bad. I wondered about his remark because of knowing him I knew he'd like it. Then I visited him and we compared the games on the phones. The interface on the i-Phone for this game is HORRIBLE!
They really fixed it up when they brought it to Android.
Been meaning to check this out, but it just sounds really banal... sort of like Xbox achievements without the game? Alchemy 2 was just released as well, using Adobe Air, and it's pretty - well, pretty. Is that all you do? Just combine different things and hope to get a working combination?
Started playing yesterday. Have got 104 so far, some logical some fun (like mario, 1up)
I got 'boiler' and I thought I'll be able to cook lots of things but boiler is still sitting tight so far
I love this game! I just started last night and about 12 hrs later (not at once), I already have 72 elements.
I was a little surprised at the combinations to get some elements. Also, was surprised by some that seemed repetitive like, hourglass and time and clock.
Started a while ago, reached about 120 elements and struggled to piece together more, partially out of laziness no doubt. Haven't played in a while but still consider it a quality game, 5 stars certainly!
Before I downloaded this, I wondered how such a simple game could get such high ratings. Once I downloaded, after playing for about 15 mins, I knew exactly how - It's so addicting!
