For the next generation of gaming I am hoping that Google makes a console. They do pretty much everything else now and Android should be able to pull it off as well.
I think Gaming Consoles are dying out now. I think the new revolution in technology belongs to the Smart Phone era. So much has happened over the past two years with Smart Phones; the industry moves a lot faster than the Gaming Industry does. However, when a new gaming console comes out, the level of technology seems to surpass anything even imaginable.

That's just my two cents.
Sorry but I 100% disagree. I think PC gaming may be slowly dying, but console gaming is constantly growing. XB360/PS3/WII sales are through the roof, and in more homes than ever. They're constantly expanding the social/gamer boundaries, not to mention becoming media centers.
They're growing faster than mobile gaming still, for sure. Although Mobile Gaming is starting to get a foothold. They may be moving faster, but they're still not as big for the "constant" user. People may be playing a TON of mobile games, but very few people play exclusively on that, and it will be a lONG time before they can come anywhere NEAR as close to the power of a xb360/wii/ps3 in a compact design.
I would like to see the gamer's smartphone. Great specs plus great controls. And the games should be promoted on TV. Apple: I mean real games, not the Sims.
Im going to have to agree with the majority... consoles arent going anywhere, anytime soon. Way too much money to be made for them to wrap it up and call it quits...

2012 is the date for the next next gen consoles haha. The new xbox is expected to be released in 2012. I recommend getting an xbox over a playstation. Its wayyyy more competitive and fun IMO. Yes you have to pay to play online, but it is worth every penny.

I've got a PS3 and a Wii, no intentions of getting an Xbox360. I previously had an Xbox and a PS2, and the Xbox just gathered dust. But yeah, consoles aren't going anywhere, not with the gaming industry making more than the movie industry.
so what i am about to post has no evidence at all and I really dont feel like looking into it that much, but ill post what ive heard anyways. I heard or read somewhere... I dont really remember... that microsoft is probably going to just be releasing some kind of add on or update for the 360s because of how often the 360s broke down... take that and do what you want with it...
I couldn't disagree with more. I agree the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 have life in them yet, but to suggest they are dying out is ridiculous. There is too much money and demand in the business, a next generation console has to arrive, be it in 2012, or 2015.

That is fuzzin ridic! That is the ugliest piece of garbage ive ever seen.... Im sorry... come on.... the controller? how uncomfortable does that look!?!?
We have the original XBox, Wii and I just got a PS3 for Christmas. It's unfortunate that I despise Sony and Microsoft so much, because they put out some awesome looking games. I believe my son will be getting a 360 for his birthday this summer (so he can play Fable 2 ). My wife is tired of hearing him beg for one....LOL. He's a good kid who gets good grades, so the begging really has no influence on our decision to buy him one.
I can't see consoles going anywhere either, but I would love to see improvements continue on the mobile side of the spectrum.

That's pretty much the boomerang controller the PS3 was originally supposed to ship with, before Sony gave in to public opinion.
The only new thing to come out soon is the Nintendo DS 3D. Microsoft and Sony are both imagining a "relaunch" for PS3 (w/Playstation Move) and the 360 (with Project Natal). I doubt we will see anything new for at LEAST a few years. If there are any surprises at E3 though, I'll be sure to get footage/pics and post here

Still waiting (semi) patiently for my Galaxy Nexus
they have yet to untap the full potential of the PS3 yet, hell they are just now maxing out what the PS2 can do, look at the games that originally came out on PS2, and now look at what comes out for it, the same thing will happen with PS3, they look great now, but in 2-3 years they will actually be able to use the full potential and we will be blown away... it takes time to learn the best coding methods for games on different consoles...
for example, look at the game BLACK for PS2.... hollllllly sh!T, those graphics compete with what currently comes out on 360 and probably half of the PS3 library...
point being, the consoles still have room to grow and until then there is no point in another console because we havn't even seen what the current ones can do yet
I don't think they will release a ps4 anytime soon. But curious if anyone knows if Sony has any plans of releasing a patch to enable the ps3 to play ps2 games?

no because it is the proccesor that is different it'd have to be a hardware swap... the ps3's that do play it have the ps2 chip mounted onboard as well
That is precisely what the authors of this tripe want you to think, ps3 is a fantastic console and media hub and won't be superceeded for at least another 5 years as the consoles capabilities are only just getting going
the xbox or PS3 will not be bringing out a new console any time soon because tehy are both investing their time and money on movement controls and why would they re-release a new console in the near future as teh machine they got released is great

I can't see how you could say either the PS3 or Xbox are more competitive than each other.
If you want competitive gaming, PC is the only way.
If I want gaming I take console anytime, but if I'm gonna hit it up with my buddies. I'd take PC. I'm not sure about ps4 to be honest, I know sony have gotten a bad beating with their PS3. So I will be intrested in seeing how they manage to pull the minus into postive, when it comes to term of income.
For your statement I'm proud owner of PS3, but I'm just noticing a trend that ps3 only games is going to xbox 360 lately.
Honestly the ps3 still seems kind of young in a lot of ways just now are the real big name titles coming out on ps3. I'd expect another round or 2 of big name sequels before ps4 talk starts up in earnest. Like others have said another 3-5 years.

If you want to play PS2 games on your PS3, you either need to get an older 60GB original PS3 (it has the Emotion Engine PS2 hardware emulator chip in it, this is the version of the PS3 I have) or a second gen one, the did away with the hardware EE and went with a software emulator, and while it didn't work with every game and wasn't quite as good as the EE chip, it worked good enough. But they completely did away with backwards compatibility a few years back, and won't be bringing it back. I'm sure if you checked Wikipedia or something, you could figure out which consoles can do what.
