depends on the platform
on pc, fps (half-life series, quake 3...), some rpgs (diablo 2 mainly; waiting for 3)
on consoles sidescrollers (megaman series, double dragon 3...) - i don't understand ppl who play fps on a console
on pc and consoles, assuming you have a wheel, racing games (flatout series in particular)
on android, puzzle stuff (sudoku, phit, tangram...)
as for my fav games, top 2 is half-life (1), followed by diablo 2... beyond that it'll depend on the day you ask me, tho' half-life 2 (+eps), portal and megaman 2 will always be close to the top

I am currently playing dragon age on 360, great game. I enjoy fps and rpg's. I think my favorite game of all time, and this will date me some, was starflight 1 and 2. I wish the could get starflight three going, but the fan site that is trying hasn't done much in 10 years that I have been following the site. I am hoping a developer like bioware will pick up the series.
I enjoy FPS games, or action/adventure like Drakes Fortune. But the game that takes up most of my life is Football Manager, addictive as hell.
I hope you are on the right team then!
I'm bit overall player, I were to say I play something a lot - I would say that will be Football Manager then. Else I'm die hard fan of everything from sports, action/adventures to strategy. Give me a good story or/and gameplay and you have me sucked up to that game.
You could also say I'm big fan of FIFA games as well, gotta play Norway to the WC *shakes fist at the national team*
I love RPG,FPS and Racing. But I'm totally not exclusive to any of those.

I've been VERY interested in it, the whole massive economy and such seems pretty interesting. I don't think my girlfriend would like me getting hooked into an MMO. I read a blog post about it somewhere, where this guy from a corporation, or guild or something like that forgot to pay some crap before he went on his real life vacation, and when he came back. Everything was FUBAR and he ended up taking all the assets and fleeing... sounded pretty deep.

I really used to love MMORPGs, but since I am more of a casual gamer, I stick with RPGs with a fantastic story and characters. Any RPG that can actually make me terribly sad that a character dies later on in the story is a winner in my book. I love sad endings especially, so in Dragon Age Origins, I sacrificed myself. Ahh... what a pleasing end to an epic journey.
