Why is Black ops so laggy?
Been playing this for about a month now and am probably going to get rid of it as sometimes it's just unplayable! Sick of getting shot round corners, being killed before the other player even appears and getting shot even when i've fired first and got lots of bullits on target. All my other online games work ok, even mw2. grrrrrrrrr

huh ive always had these things happen to me I just credited it to my sucking at the game not lag. if its lag at least I can pretend to be a little better than I really am. (i suck im level 37 on my first prestige, with like a .80 k/d ratio, best kill streak was 9 in a row, best k/d for one game was 5.4)
It's host advantage. Since CoD runs off of peer to peer hosting. Which means someone in the game, their internet connection supplies the server for everyone else to play on. For that one person, they have zero lag. Even for others connected at on a perfect connection, they're still behind a bit in the game and lag a few milliseconds behind the host. The game registers kills and shots off the host's viewpoint though, so the host probably saw you since his connection is ahead and already killed you before you even saw him.
That's why you hear so much crying about host advantage and how CoD should get dedicated servers. With dedicated servers, everyone has a little bit of lag, no one has zero lag like with peer to peer hosting.
1 its awful programming! 2 in the PSN games i have played, the connection SUCKS compared to XBOX, and its spotty at best on Live. 3 Babies quitting during the match because they got sniped from too far away, or a Huey is coming their way disrupts the connection. 4 all games are prone to lag, ALL. 5 its Call Of Duty (Whack Ops, Crap Ops, Hit Marker Ops)
Serious gamers have switched to either BF or back to HALO i think. lots more little kiddies with disgusting player cards lately.
I had a lot of the same problems until I went to hardwiring straight to my modem it was such a big difference. But the part about getting shot around the corners thats just treyarchs failure to change the hit box or whatever u wanna call it ur marker is just a little to big I wish it was tighter to the body if u have question I will try to better explain

PSN is free. Live is a paid service. Live will ALWAYS be better than PSN. I always buy games for 360 now, I rarely use my PS3 (other than Blu-Ray movies) because of how bad PSN is. Live may be $60 a year, but it's well worth it. You get what you pay for.
hmmm not tried too many games online with 360 but have always found it to be no better than ps3 :S
The 'lag' on black ops is very annoying, around a corner and getting killed lol Nothing can be done about it on our part though, not that i know of at least. Just get good at it so you can make up for the stupid deaths with kills :P
Just found this thread, but I have to chime in and say that its not ALL games lagging. Yes, all internet connections at one time or another HAVE to have lag, but the reason people leave Black Ops for Halo is because Halo has their sh$%% together. The games, 99% of the time, don't lag like this.
There are other non-dedicated server games out there that have not been this bad. Treyarch just did not do a good job, and the only reason they still have players is there's really nothing else new out there to compete in this arena right now. (MW2 and BF2 are what, a year and 18 months old).
And the reason I chimed in was because they have all these promo videos with the developers promoting ANOTHER map pack. You want us to pony up $15 for more maps, where one game your team wins 250 to 0, and the next you get shot before the guy comes around the corner and you are 0 to 250?! How about a promo video where you talk honestly about the lag?! I think the truth is they simply CAN'T fix it now without a major rewrite of the game.
If you have shit for ping and you're not host, you're going to see some lag. There's no other way around it.
My compensation for lag is Famas + extended mags + Sleight of hand pro ... add flak jacket and you'll be able to cap more flags.
Aim before you go around a corner and always be aware of your HUD display.
Dude I hear you, but you shouldn't have to compensate for lag. Not all games are this bad. Sure, a game here or there is unavoidable, but game after game after game......
