Default Wii U

I personally don't really have any interest in getting one of these, but new consoles are always fun to check out at least. The huge controller would be annoying for me. I like playing games in a dark room, and having a huge screen lit up on my controller would suck. Some odd design decisions stand out to me, such as only 8 GB of memory on the basic system, and a separate AC charger for the controller. (no plugging into the console to charge) Support for surround sound is there, but seems to be gimped. At least the hdmi cable is included. I never got into the Wii, so I'm not exactly the target audience for this, so what do you guys think? Anybody planning on getting one?

Im not sure about them either to be honest,

To me it just doesn't seem good enough to warrant paying the attached price tag.
And in my opinion its not far enough ahead technology wise to make it stand out.

I mean the Wii too at least a couple of years for Sony and MS to copy the movement technology onto their consoles but from what I read they will be likeing tablets and phones up to the 360 and maybe even the PS3 by mid next year which only gives the WiiU a 6 month head start.

Also theres debate whether the graphics will be powerful enough to classed as next-gen or just equal to the PS3 and 360, which means if the 720 and PS4 come out next year then the WiiU is going to be left along way behind.

And like you said only 8GB of mem on a 300 console is abit daft.
If the console was cheaper then yeah maybe but apparently Nintendo are already making a loss buy selling them for 300

On the positive I do like the idea of been able to move a game from the large screen to a handheld and the new mario game looks very cool, but i wont be purchasing it till they come down in price

I don't understand the WiiU at all. Who wants to hold a controller like that? It's dumb imo. I held it at Best Buy today and was thinking it could be used as a tray to eat a tv dinner on.

Lol. I agree, but I thought the Wii was stupid and it ended up being a big hit, so it'll be interesting to see if this one will be as successful.

Uh oh, sounds like a nightmare for Nintendo. Those who are interested might want to wait until this gets fixed before buying.

Supposedly most consoles that were bricked are resuming the update after being turned off or fiddled with. When I brought mine home last Wednesday, the update took around 30 minutes to download and install; it wasn't so bad.

After playing for nearly the entire weekend, I absolutely love it. The Wii U provides a great console experience and has plenty of great Mature rated games. I picked up New Super Mario Bros U, Zombie U, and COD Black Ops 2. The Gamepad is unique and very comfortable to play with; I enjoyed Black Ops more on the Wii U than I did on my 360. (The graphics look better as well.)

Overall the Wii U is a great console, although it's still in early stages. I can't wait to see what they add with future updates.

That's cool. I'm glad you're liking it, but a day one patch that's 5 GB when the basic console has less than 8 GB of memory does seem kind of crazy.

What a mess! My god I would have return the thing so fast. I'm a PC gamer, but often I find myself looking at handheld consoles.
