Default Herotab M802 recent buyer

I recently received two M802 tablets from meri-mobiles. I was wanting the M816, but since they were Christmas presents for my kids, I decided to take the plunge. After much reading about the new A8 Cortex MIDs, and all of the problems with 2.2 since these units appeared, I was hesitant.

Now, I'm new to the Android scene, but I'm a linux and unix guy since the mid 80's, so building a ROM image doesn't scare me too much.

Last night the units arrived, and I must say I'm very impressed with the build quality. My screens (resistive) are very responsive. There's no jittery movement, and the touch points are dead on (using the developer tools).

These units came with new firmware (2.6.31-01012-g4f92f83-dirty) that has Google Market, Flash 10.1, and US English installed. I installed and rooted with z4root 1.3.0 (1.1.0 did not work).

I have to say that I don't feel that I need to re-flash these right now, and if you are worried about buying this model, don't be.

Andy

Hey Andy..... it was good to hear that news because I'm waiting on the same unit from Merimobiles... it's for my wife, she just wants something to have while we're on the road. Which we're on the road alot. I was nervous after reading a few negative reports for the M802. You have calmed my nerves..... now if they could get the unit to me. Thanks again.

Confused

Hello
If you could please tell me if I am going to need to know how to program or do anything invasive and complicated to use this unit effectively please?

I am trying to decide between the M802 and the MID816 models!

I have a Droid2 and love it so much that I am replacing my Sony Reader and Nokia N810 with an Android tablet that is strong for ereading and does not need a phone contract but has WIFI.

I liked my Nokia N810 which runs Linux but I never got into the "guts" of it. I have experience in the "guts" of Palm OS PDA's because I used to do software and hardware reviews and support with them.

Will this be above my level and/or time constraints (I don't have the time I used to for digging into "guts") just to have something to read ebooks, newspapers, etc...on and maybe tour the net a bit or download a game from the Market???

Thanks for all your help!

Actually it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo, Gingerbread is 2.3 and Honeycomb is slated to be version 3.0 due to be released 1st quarter 2011. But there are rumors that Honeycomb could end up being version 2.4 and not 3.0 as originally thought.

Hi all, I've just taken delivery of one of these pads, am generally pleased.

Have rooted, removed what I don't want or need etc but am not having a great deal of joy with the screen, I don't find it that responsive or accurate and on most occassions am have to press the icon 3 or 4 times before it registers.

Am wondering if anyone has any tips or mod to make the screen more responsive and accurate???

Also don't laugh guys but how do you get the screen to turn off fully, mine just dims after 1 min but doesn't go off completely!!!

Thanks in advance for any help

Where did you get the information to root this device. I have one and if I ever get the Wi-Fi to work correctly (grrrrr!) I would like to root it. Thanks in advance.

I used Z4Root V1.3.0 from the post below to root it:

[APP] One Click Root App 2.1 - z4root - Updated 1.3.0 - xda-developers

I have also updated my firmware and my tablet is now a lot faster, accurate and more responsive.

If it's the one speaker version you have (like me) I really do recommend updating the firmware (link below)

APAD IMX515 A8 01.11 Firmware : Freescale IMX515

Enjoy...
