Default Is there an Android equivalent to an iPod Touch?

I need a small Android device to run some diagnostic software in my car. I basically need a 3.5-5" tablet, and I really don't care about any features other than Android 2.1 or 2.2. It will basically be a display for the software and nothing else. Is there anything like this out there?

Thanks for any advice. I've been searching for a while, but I can't seem to find any devices under 7".

The Dell streak would be good, but I don't need the phone part so that would make for a pretty expensive media player.

I hadn't seen those small Archos units before...the 28 model might work perfectly. Thanks for the info.

Archos 43, same power as the 70 and 101 but in a smaller package.

Does 720p out of the box, which means no need to convert and also has th media streaming features as its bigger brothers.

I got my Archos 28 yesterday. I returned it today. Maybe I've been spoiled with Droids and my HTC Evo... but that thing was awful. Slow and unresponsive, cheap and plasticky.

Yeah, I knew you would. It's hard to get a small "tablet" that's not better than one of the newer smartphones that are out.

It occurred to me today that I can buy an Android phone with a bad ESN on eBay for a pretty reasonable price and just use that. I got an a855 for $55.

I use my Samsung Vibrant in my car to interface to an ELM327 OBD-2 scanner via Bluetooth to monitor my car's fuel consumption and engine performance. I also use Google map and a few other apps.

I would have used a tablet like the Gpad G10 7-inch running Android 2.1 but they don't have Bluetooth or GPS.

The USB port on mine got loosened or something and I can't charge it anymore. $100 wasted. To get the thing to run Angry Birds smoothly I had to do a whole lot of app managing... well just to get it to run smoothly in general really. Its much too high maintenance. 128 MB of RAM is way too low for an Android device.

Funny thing happened... I was cleaning up my usb cables today and I ran across my old phones charger. Since it had the same usb plug as the Archos 28 did I plugged it into the 28 and tried charging it... well it charged lol. Looks like it was the cable that was damaged... anyway the real reason I'm posting here is this:

The long rumoured successor to the ever popular D2 & D2+ players has finally been announced by Cowon!

While some of Cowon's past players have used Linux (such as the O2) and Windows CE (Q5 and V5), the D3 represents the first player from Cowon to adopt the Google Android operation system that has revolutionised the mobile phone and tablet market.

Initially shipping with Android 2.1, the Cowon D3 will also feature built in Wifi and Bluetooth support and it will sport a 3.7" AMOLED high resolution 800x480 pixerl display with a capacitive touch screen which makes a great improvement from the low-res 2.5" LCD display and resistive touch screen in its predecessor.

With the sound quality you would expect from a Cowon player the D3 will also play most video media you care to throw at it. The players are expected to be available in 8, 16 and 32GB memory sizes with a microSD card slot to expand the memory further.

Keep an eye out on our website for more information as soon as we receive it and for preordering.
This has been in the rumor mill for a while, so its nice to see it become a reality. I have a Cowon D2 and I absolutely love it. This sounds like it could be another legit Android equivalent to the iPod Touch. It sounds a lot like the Viliv P3 that was show at CES 2010, but is only sold in S.Korea.

The Viliv P3.

I'm looking forward to seeing that Cowon D3, sounds interesting. And that p3 is exactly what I was looking for originally.

I just bought a Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S) a few days ago. The call quality is horrible and I'm going to have to return it, but other than that the device is amazing. The screen is gorgeous, build quality is excellent, and the processor is fast as hell. This Galaxy player will be pretty awesome. Wonder if it will have GPS?

It would be really cool if they could keep a radio in it and sell it with a data plan only, like what Verizon has for the iPad.

Let me google that for you
don't know if it can do 3G, but it does have an FM radio, WiFi and a GPS (apparently)

Notsure Reignite this?

came across this thread searching the same subject.

What the OP was chasing is my desire also - 'cept not for custom software but to do what my IPOD Touch can do plus more, with far more flexibility.

Which device? : a phone that can be operated Sans-carrier, in other words without the "phone" part but everything else? Or a dedicated device like the Cowon or others mentioned here?
